If your DC had to isolate -did they go on to catch CV-19?

DC has been told they have to isolate due to close contact at school.

I just wondered, honestly, if your dc have had to isolate following a case in their class, did they go on to develop covid?

One period of isolation so far...DC did not develop any symptoms.

BertieBob · 08/11/2020 22:09

DS did not, but 2 other children from his class did.

katienana · 08/11/2020 22:10

No. My dc was sat next to the +ve case for 2 full days and didn't get symptoms. They are y3.

PotteringAlong · 08/11/2020 22:11

No.

justanotherkid · 08/11/2020 22:15

no

lumpybumpylooloo · 08/11/2020 22:15

My 12 year old son is isolating at the moment. He sat next to the child who tested positive in 2 classes. He’s 10 days on from the last contact with the child and hasn’t developed any symptoms so hoping that it’s unlikely that he will now.

sherryshelidan · 08/11/2020 22:16

No and no one else in his class did. We have had covid before though

Todayisgood2 · 08/11/2020 22:16

Dont forget if they didnt get tested they may have had it just asymptomatic.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 08/11/2020 22:17

No but for my DC the whole year group had to isolate (3 classes). The positive case was not in my DC's class so not really close contact (eg not sitting next to / queuing with / talking to/playing with)

Ickythumpego · 08/11/2020 22:17

Twice now my 11 year old has had to isolate. One kid on his bus, and then a good friend. Neither time did he catch it thankfully.

Oly4 · 08/11/2020 22:17

No my dc didn’t but we went on to develop symptoms within the 2 week isolation

starrynight19 · 08/11/2020 22:17

Dd didn’t but 2 children did in one period of dd’s isolation.

Guess this would be difficult to know unless they actually got a test in the isolation period.

Lotsachocolateplease · 08/11/2020 22:18

No. Uni student sharing flat with 4 others. One tested positive - none of the others caught it or if they did were asymptotic.

tigger1001 · 08/11/2020 22:19

Just finished second isolation and have had no symptoms either time, other than complete boredom!

Theromanempire · 08/11/2020 22:20

Yes, they may have had it asymptomatically - however, we were not isolating within the house at all so if DC did have it asymptomatically, I would expect he would have passed it on to us and the chances of me, DH and the other DC all being asymptomatic are extremely low so I think it is reasonable to assume he did not catch it.

Inkpaperstars · 08/11/2020 22:20

To be honest most people won't know as I would guess that a minority of the dc who do have covid will have symptoms, and even fewer the 'official' symptoms required to test.

dementedpixie · 08/11/2020 22:20

Ds just finished his isolation today and didn't catch it. He can go back to school tomorrow thankfully

Onmyown1 · 08/11/2020 22:23

On our 2nd isolation (started Friday). Didn’t catch it previously and fingers crossed for this time too.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 08/11/2020 22:24

@tigger1001 I wonder just how many children are self-isolating out there! I'm glad schools are 'open' but it looks like it could be a very disrupted year.

SaltyAF · 08/11/2020 22:27

Are you asking out of genuine interest? I really worry that schools will ultimately be required to keep everyone in unless they actually test positive.

In my school there were ten cases within a few days across KS4 before half term, a number of whom were in the same classes. Schools aren't sending kids home because they don't want to teach them.

starrynight19 · 08/11/2020 22:27

Grumblymumblyisnotjumbly my dd is on her 3rd isolation period.
Started a thread on this earlier and lots of people have had their children isolating by the looks of it.
Yes a very disrupted year.

3littlewords · 08/11/2020 22:30

No and I'm not aware of anyone in the class developing symptoms either

littlerose12345 · 08/11/2020 22:40

No she didn't.
No one else in her class did either.

I really don't know other than anecdotally what is happening in schools. Statistics may be out there but I doubt it. If schools being open as business as usual isn't working - & why would they magically be fine when every other sector is being affected?- then they need to start to implement blended learning at secondary. I'd much rather that than end up with full closure again or have secondary schools 'open' but with no children in as they are all isolating (obviously just my opinion which doesn't actually make a jot of difference!)

@starrynight19 3rd isolation already! Hope your DD, and you, are coping ok Flowers
