If your DC had to isolate -did they go on to catch CV-19?

DC has been told they have to isolate due to close contact at school.

I just wondered, honestly, if your dc have had to isolate following a case in their class, did they go on to develop covid?

Nope, not according the official symptoms for testing but has been feeling tired and in his words "not right". As have I...

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 08/11/2020 23:39

No

Kudostoyou · 08/11/2020 23:57

Yes my DS was a close contact of a child at preschool, he then tested positive, then myself and DH tested positive, a week later on her second test my DD tested positive, so it’s a full house for us, thankfully none of us have experienced any majorly significant issues so far, it’s mostly the stress of the actual situation

Xmasbaby11 · 09/11/2020 00:01

No, dd has just finished isolation and had no symptoms. I haven't heard of anyone else getting it in the class.
@tigger1001 I wonder just how many children are self-isolating out there! I'm glad schools are 'open' but it looks like it could be a very disrupted year.
Yes a very disturbed year of education. Neither self isolating period was as a result of school but still impacts. Our school has been lucky (so far) so no mass self isolation from there, but plenty off

AhFiddledeedee · 09/11/2020 07:51

Yes, I'm asking out of genuine interest.

DC has been saying they feel nauseous for the past few days since being told to isolate and unsettled at night. But no cough, no temp, no change in taste or smell. So no "official" symptoms, but something is up...

No and neither did anyone else out of the 50 kids who were isolating.

covetingthepreciousthings · 09/11/2020 07:55

This is a reassuring thread, currently have DC off isolating due to bubble bursting with one case. He's only 4 so can't really isolate away from the household so just hoping for the best for all of us..

It feels weird that the rest of us can go about our lives as normal though, we aren't meeting up with anyone anyway but elder DC still in school and DH in work.

DS1 year (year 9) had to self isolate. No symptoms and don’t know of anyone else in his year that developed covid.
They had to follow the timetable while they were all off, some live interactive lessons, some pre-recorded and some assignments where teacher was on chat for any questions. Even had exercises to do for PE. So don’t feel that it’s been too disruptive. Obviously not as good as being at school with proper interaction but I feel satisfied that his education was kept up with.
I do realise that at 13 his age group are easier to be left to get on with it and on the day ma and DH needed to both be at tori se could leave him at home. If it’s 9 year old it would be different and would need more parental input/time off work

My 15 year old avoided self-isolation by one seat two weeks ago, kids who were within 2 metres of the positive case were asked to self-isolate. 12 of her friends affected. All the same age. Today is the end of their isolation and the first day back at school.

Zero further cases. No symptoms among the 12 who were told to isolate.

anappleadaykeeps · 09/11/2020 08:06

Yes in our case (DS14), and he also passed it on to ExH (his dad), but not me or DD11.

middleager · 09/11/2020 08:11

My 14 year old is currently on his third self isolation since September. This time, the child (whose dad had tested positive for CV days before the child so God knows why boy was at school) sat on the next table to my son in a double lesson.

In the previous 2 times my son did not go on to show symptoms (whether he was asymptomatic is another matter). This time, we have nothing so far after 4 days, but wonder if our luck will run out this time given their proximity for 2 hours.

middleager · 09/11/2020 08:15

Oh and unlike pp who mentioned only those within 2m sent back, the whole class gets sent back every time. Due to options group this includes other classes and translates to around 75/100 students sent back every time. Nobody tested positive though each time.

5 weeks out in year 10 is a concern.

Smelliethenelephant · 09/11/2020 08:17

First time no, second time no, third time yes.

middleager · 09/11/2020 08:21

Oh no smellie how were/are they?

Angel2702 · 09/11/2020 08:29

Out of 4 or five bubbles sent home locally with hundreds of children isolating only one sixth form teacher and one pupil have tested positive in our schools.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/11/2020 08:45

I get the impression some schools are being very much stricter than others with distancing etc and more or less effective with ventilation (our secondary had windows replaced over the summer to enable them to open, others sadly aren’t in a position to do anything) and I would dearly love to know if this has made a difference to how much it has spread.

CommanderBurnham · 09/11/2020 22:55

Yes. My DS caught it off the child sat next to him.
He was asymptomatic but I chose to get him tested as his face went a bit weird and we bubble with my extremely clinically vulnerable mother. Thank goodness we did.

The child who gave it my DS gave it to all the children around her on the seating plan.

There was another cluster in another area of the classroom. We are sure they were related.

Of the 10 who tested, all tested positive. Other mums said their children had various symptoms but chose not to get tested.

One other of his classmates gave it to 2 of their siblings in the school. Their bubbles also shut.

Primary school.
