Is Wales shut forever?

I live in England and my parents live in Wales. Wales is due to emerge from its lockdown on Nov 9. But it looks like even then I won't be able to go to their house or garden. I don't fully understand the rules but they seem to have a rule of 4 outside so even if we wanted to meet in the park I couldn't bring DH and DC. Is there any date when I can go and see them or they will be allowed to come and see me?

Does anyone understand the rules from Nov 9 or even from Dec 2 when England should be out of lockdown?

Go by car. One of you sits in the car and the other two visit then swap.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 08/11/2020 22:02

But I don't think English rules would allow you to go at the moment. From 2 December probably.

Mumto3thatsme · 08/11/2020 22:02

Could you bubble with them? 2 households can bubble.
I also think children are exempt from the rule of four

DS is 12 which is just too old I think.

You're not allowed to travel from England into Wales until after the lockdown ends ( in England , our firebreak finishes tonight )
I think , you can be a party of up to 6 if it's 2 households , and 4 from 4 separate households
I hope they make the rules the same for everyone soon , as it's too confusing

notevenat20 · 08/11/2020 22:05

I only know about bubbles where one household has one single person in it. What would it mean for a household of 4 in England with children going to school to bubble with a household of 2 in Wales?

@Doilooklikeatourist

Do you think that from December 2 all 4 of us will be able to go to my parents' house in Wales?

@Mumto3thatsme

I am not sure we would be allowed to go to their house even from December 2 but I am finding the rules very confusing. Would love to be corrected.

@notevenat20 this link gives the rules , I think you'll be ok ✅

In Wales, two households can bubble (any households, not just those with a single adult). So in theory once the England lockdown is lifted you could travel to Wales and bubble with your parents. (As long as they won't be forming a bubble with another household.)

However that depends what the new tier system in England permits of course.

OP lives in England and so can’t bubble as isn’t a single adult household.
LubaLuca · 08/11/2020 22:13

At the moment, you could form an 'extended household' with your parents which would allow you to enter each other's home and stop overnight, but as you are in England you won't be able to do that until next month (unless the rules change again in the meantime!).

It's a bloody minefield. I live one side of the border and work on the other, and I'm as confused as anyone about what's allowed where.

Geldhorn · 08/11/2020 22:13

I think so. It is part of devolution plan

Racoonworld · 08/11/2020 22:13

Sorry OP at the moment it doesn’t look like you can visit. Certainly not until English lockdown is over and then it depends what tier your out into and what the Welsh rules are at the time

notevenat20 · 08/11/2020 22:17

Thanks all. So it looks like maybe we could form an extended bubble on December 2, depending on what tier we are put in. Does this stop us doing anything else? Clearly we can't form another extended bubble but we only have one set of parents in Wales anyway.

I suppose you'd have to think carefully about other households you may want to visit, or those who may also want to visit your parents eg your siblings, aunts and uncles...? As things stand, only you would be able to visit them at home.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/11/2020 22:20

Until the English National
lockdown is finished 2Dec, you cannot go to wales to stay over/have a holiday. But technically you can go for the day provided only one person meets one other person at a time. but it'll depend on the rules of where exactly you're going in Wales & I expect that'll be unclear for a bit yet.

It makes ones head hurt!!

Can you not just Skype?

YouNeedASpaDay · 08/11/2020 22:24

So I could go and visit my
Mum in Wales (from England) and take my two DD (4 and 6) when Wales opens up?

U8myufo · 08/11/2020 22:27

I think it is also dependent on tiers, and what guidance Welsh Government gives on travel from tiers prior to the England lockdown ending. BJ has said that it will revert to the tier system post lockdown. Previously there were restrictions about people traveling to Wales from certain tiers - the highest risk areas. It depends if that remains the case after the end of the lockdown and if so, what tier you happen to be in. Without a doubt much more clarity is needed as it leaves people totally unable to plan as to when they can see their families. Very difficult situation all round!

LubaLuca · 08/11/2020 22:30

Not until England's lockdown ceases, then assuming you're not in a high tier afterwards and the rules don't change in Wales. Also it depends on if anyone else has visited your mum in her home in the meantime.
charlieclown · 08/11/2020 22:32

It is mad! I am in a similar situation on but I have more children, which is problematic and a good thing I like them.

I havent seen anything on the definition of a bubble - my mum (lives in Wales) reckon she is in a bubble with me and each of my siblings. I am pretty sure you cant do that, but we are unlikely to visit within 2 weeks of each other, so it is pretty hypothetical. But the guidance doesn't say who long you have to pick your dance (bubble) partner for. Rest of your life? Until the next lockdown, until they change the rules again? Et etc

Racoonworld · 08/11/2020 22:33

Not until England’s lockdown is finished and then will depend what tier you’re put in.
Frolicacid · 08/11/2020 22:36

Wales isn’t shut. England is in lockdown.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 08/11/2020 22:37

I’m in Wales and my family is in England.

I’m waiting to see what the rules are where they are when the English lockdown ends. I doubt that I’ll get to see them this side of Christmas

notevenat20 · 09/11/2020 05:40

Wales isn’t shut. England is in lockdown.

The rules from today in Wales seem to say you can’t visit anyone’s house or garden, even if you live in Wales.
