Or are you at risk of losing your job anytime soon?

How are you preparing for it?

And if you were made redundant before did you manage to find another job yet?

My friend did at the start of lockdown. She was very upset by it all. Another one was made redundant and now on UC.

whoopywoonoo · 07/11/2020 17:27

My husband has. Head office Fashion high street retail. Not expecting to get back into that sector. Has 4weeks lined up in a warehouse over Xmas. And that is all that he has been able to get.

Rabbitholebonkers · 07/11/2020 17:28

My husband did. Automotive industry. He’s still not in work. I work in education so my job is secure, although he was the main earner so our income is down and we are just scraping by.

MuchTooTired · 07/11/2020 17:34

I lost mine. Admittedly it was a contract that I’d just started, so I was lucky to lose it at the start I suppose rather than once the kids were settled in nursery, but I really enjoyed it after 2 years of being a sahm and now it’s gone.

Can’t find anything else that’ll pay enough to put two kids in nursery, so I’m back to sahm for a while!

Comefromaway · 07/11/2020 17:35

My daughter lost her part time job teaching performing arts at a Saturday morning class.

DeepfriedPizza · 07/11/2020 17:35

Yes. Accounts in a company that builds offices.
I’ve started a temp job in a company that builds roads but not sure after that.

JaJaDingDong · 07/11/2020 17:36

I'm "at risk". As are most of my team.

SocialBees · 07/11/2020 17:40

Two good friends lost theirs at the beginning of the first lockdown. Both worked in finance, so not an area particularly badly affected by covid, but both had only been with the companies for a short period (less than 6 months) so it was relatively easy to let them go.

Both were the main earner in the family. Neither have found a job yet.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/11/2020 17:57

Not yet. I was put on furlough from March until August as orders dropped (furniture manufacturing). Then suddenly orders rocketed again and we saw record numbers, probably due to the fact that people aren't going on holiday and are doing home improvements instead. My job is safe until the new year but I've got a nasty feeling that once travel is freely allowed again then orders will tank. I'm not taking anything for granted.

Porcupineinwaiting · 07/11/2020 17:59

No, COVID is not a threat to my job. Brexit on the other hand...

tortoiseshell1985 · 07/11/2020 17:59

Nearly, went through consultation had to apply for the far fewer roles that were available. Thankfully was successful many others not so lucky

MyBossIsATwat · 07/11/2020 18:00

Not redundancy, but I had long term sickness absence which eventually lead to dismissal. I don’t believe that would have happened if I’d had access to treatment, I was starting to get better but then lockdown happened so everything stopped.

On behalf of me, everyone on this thread, and pretty much everyone else in the world I guess - fuck you covid.

ramblingsonthego · 07/11/2020 18:00

I'm hanging on by a thread along with the rest of the company. Waiting to hear when the board meet next week. Furlough until March may have bought us some breathing space and money until then but not sure if its just kicking the can down the road. I am looking for new jobs.

3littlewords · 07/11/2020 18:07

My workplace are making redundancies next week they have asked for voluntary first but may make some others redundant if not enough volunteer. We have gone totally remote since lockdown with no plans ever to go back in the office and business has reduced by 20%

Indoctro · 07/11/2020 18:09

I have lost my part time role and husband is away too lose his international offshore job too

Oil and gas industry

SpeckledyHen · 07/11/2020 18:11

Yes it was a contract but was rolling happily every 6 months ..
They had to make 10% of the staff redundant so no chance of me staying. No other job on the horizon.

KatyMac · 07/11/2020 18:13

My daughter lost all her booked performing jobs, each of her teaching venues closed down,
She has done some work online, developed some activism work and been lecturing and then had started back teaching, and a small amount of performing/modelling only to lose it all again

She is now struggling with the idea that she may never work in her sector again and that she should retrain

youlittlecharmer · 07/11/2020 18:15

Yes, fashion retail head office. I start a new job in education next week after 3 months of unemployment.

PTW1234 · 07/11/2020 18:16

My partner is back on furlough and was expected to be out at risk in December.

Although furlough extension seems to have saved his job, we won’t know until next month however.

Covid has actually delayed a major restructure from being rolled out in my place of work - however this has started now and I am potentially at risk (they are doing it in waves).

Think I would of them actually not delay the restructure as I probably could of found work earlier in the year, e.g across the summer when there was a bit more optimisation

maureenfrombarnsley · 07/11/2020 18:24

Touch wood, I haven't. Retail head office. They have made loads of redundancies though.

itbemay1 · 07/11/2020 18:40

Not me but DH did , started a new job though 4 weeks ago after being off work for a few months, no furlough as self employed but did get gov grant, we still struggled and will going forward as pay for new job is a lot less than his previous, but we're ok and lucky he got a new job so fast

Gercha · 07/11/2020 18:49

Yes, redundant. I live in one of the worst hit areas for job losses and the only vacancies offer minimum wage. Tough times ahead.

Loveatortie · 07/11/2020 19:04

My business, i spent 4 years building up has gone caputSad luckily dh job is sort of safe. The company he works for are selling part of it to foreign investors due to brexitSad luckily we are nearer early retirement age. Our pensions may go tits up though, sigh

wildbarnet · 07/11/2020 19:25

@SocialBees where they temps ? As finance is doing quite well x

wheresmymojo · 07/11/2020 19:52

Both me and husband lost our jobs in March.

We both started new businesses over lockdown as not many jobs available in our sector.

We have some good 'green shoots' with both businesses but are not yet making a consistent income to cover our bills.

Things are very difficult.
