Can I visit DD?

Dd moved 150 miles away in August to start a new job. She has just been furloughed. So she isn't seeing anyone apart from her housemate, who is still working, and says she needs warm clothes from home. It's her birthday next week and she sounds pretty down. DH & I could drive there & back in a day but we can't find info about whether or not we're allowed to. Does anyone know?

The OP's DD has been furloughed, not bereaved or diagnosed with an illness.

She's moved 150 miles away for a job a few weeks ago.

The OP doesn't have any reasonable concerns about her DD's Mental Health except it's her birthday & she's been furloughed.

People Are using MH/Caring Responsibilities to excuse all kinds of visits & it's not on.

@MirandaGoshawk You really shouldn't go, your DH is correct. If your DD was really struggling, I'd feel differently, but a bit bored/down at being furloughed & it being her birthday, really aren't good reasons to go. You can order her a jumper & some fluffy socks (or whatever she'd like) online for her birthday and you can FaceTime on her birthday, you could have dinner 'together' and play a game or whatever. You could even order her a takeaway. If it wasn't lockdown she'd be off doing her own thing for her birthday, not at your house.

Unless she has a history of serious MH issues, I think you'd be unreasonable to go.

Go go go

Does she live alone? Can you form a support bubble with her? Then you can mix as if you are all the same household.

greenspacesoverthere · 08/11/2020 03:29

In general, you must not meet with another person socially or undertake any activities with another person. However, you can exercise or meet in a public, outdoors space with people you live with, your support bubblele (or as part of a childcare bubblele), or with one other person.

You can meet her outside. She is the 'one other person'

However if you scroll down to the travel section of the rules, you aren't allowed to travel to meet her outside

Surely she can order some warm clothes online? Goodness sake can people not think for themselves now?

GlovesUp · 08/11/2020 03:35

And it is not an essential journey so no you cannot.

Go and check on your child... I would.
@Parker231 and this would fall under caring responsibilities since the OP is concerned about her dd's MH
No it would not, OP wants to see her on her Birthday which obviously any parent would. A shit situation all round. I would go down to bring her back home, that solves that.
