If you’ve had to self-isolate, have you gone in to develop symptoms?

I’m currently self-isolating after receiving a notification from the NHS Covid 19 App to self-isolate for 9 days due to being in contact with someone who had tested positive (don’t know who... where... when). I currently feel fine, no symptoms.
If you’ve had to self-isolate due to being a contact of someone who tested positive, did you then go on to develop symptoms, get tested, test positive?
I’m aware that self-isolating also means that I wouldn’t pass anything on, even if I don’t develop symptoms, as I could be asymptotic etc.
I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant.

DS is just coming to the end of self-isolation after one of the other babies in his bubble at nursery tested positive and they were in on the same day. No symptoms here (and none of the nursery staff or other children who have also had to isolate have any symptoms). He's only 14 months so not worried if he were to have it but I'm immunosuppressed (and he spends half his life trying to stick things in my mouth/eat my face) so I figure if he had got it, I would have got it too.

Comefromaway · 04/11/2020 14:24

Dd had to self isolate due to one of her teachers testing positive. None of the rest of her class developed symptoms.

picklemewalnuts · 04/11/2020 14:24

DS has self isolated, but didn't get symptoms. Like you, no idea where he got it. Actually doubting the app, as he only goes to work and no one there is positive.

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 14:26

Yes, not me, but dd2. 4 days in. Was pretty poorly for 3 days then fine.

satnighttakeaway · 04/11/2020 14:29

You know that your situation is individual to you? What use is anyone else's experience?

Everyone who happens to see this thread might all have gone on to test positive but so what, you don't think you can extrapolate that to you do you? And vice versa.

LittleRa · 04/11/2020 14:29

@picklemewalnuts I’m a teacher and all through term time I was just going to work but once half term came around I did some Halloweeny activities with DD age 6, eg pumpkin picking farm, spooky trail at national trust property etc. I checked in places with the QR code but apparently also even if you haven’t checked in your phone is scanning and you could stand next to someone in a queue or something.

It’s just conversation 🤷‍♀️ sharing experience... Isolating is a bit boring. I didn’t imagine I’d read that someone else got symptoms on day 5 and I’d set my alarm clock to expect to get them then too... just wondering how other people have got on.

Ds is currently isolating after a case at school. No symptoms so far. Think contact was 26th October

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 14:41

I think you should only have to self isolate for 7 days unless you develop symptoms. Would encourage compliance.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 04/11/2020 14:42

DC isolated after a year group case at school with no symptoms but the child was in another class to DC so didn't feel like it was a 'close contact' watch this space event.

Glad you are ok so far OP especially when you are pregnant.

BlueThistles · 04/11/2020 14:43

Yes ... work colleague and I work closely together for a week... He tested positive... I had to self iso.. finished 3 days ago.

no symptoms
negative test result

Test done by work ..

Bluejewel · 04/11/2020 14:45

Thank you Smile At first I was stressing about work- I had to leave the school building immediately when I got the notification, and obviously someone is having to cover my lessons although I’m sending the planning, PowerPoints and resources through via email, so my head was spinning about that but once I sat down and thought about it I though hang on, what if I actually get it?!

Yes, but he literally hasn't been anywhere. Walks to work 5 mins away. Noone at work has it. Occasionally walks the dog, but we're quite rural, he won't have been close to anyone. It's all a bit suspicious.

LittleRa · 04/11/2020 14:57

@picklemewalnuts Very strange 🤔

I have just started a thread about my Dad in a care home he and 5 other residents have tested positive and no symptoms. Most of the staff have tested positive and nothing. ummm.

Sadhoot · 04/11/2020 15:05

I did after 2 days and ended up testing positive. My mum has also tested positive but she's asymptomatic. If she hadn't tested, she would have gone on her merry way to spread the virus.

Do as the app says and stay at home.

Yes, I definitely will be. Today is just my first day, I received the notification yesterday. It feels very strange, being at home while everyone else is at work and yet I feel fine! With being pregnant though, everyone has said to take advantage of being able to rest etc. I have a few piles of baby things to have a sort through too- nesting kicking in a bit earlier than expected?!

I developed symptoms when my DP tested positive, luckily I was already isolating. Our home is tiny so I'd come to terms that I was going to get it because I couldn't stay away from DP to avoid it!

I don't actually know of anyone else who has developed symptoms during isolation, but know lots who have had to isolate.

Sadhoot · 04/11/2020 15:36

Oh that's lovely, at least you have something to occupy you Smile

DP is also self isolating and so far is just climbing the walls!

iolaus · 04/11/2020 16:09

My colleague was self isolating due to being in contact with a positive case last Sunday - she developed symptoms 7 days later and tested positive

I also know someone who got symptoms 24 hours after being contacted by track and trace - again she was positive

Plus two cases where the spouses have had it and then the other spouse developed symptoms and tested positive within a week

Though that sounds high lots more have been self isolating and not developed symptoms

Izitso · 04/11/2020 16:31

We should remember that people in work places wouldn't know whether they have it or not unless they've been tested very recently - so many are asymptomatic and spreading. We badly need better test & trace provision and follow up.

Blobby10 · 04/11/2020 16:36

My self imposed isolation comes to an end on Saturday morning - my OH tested positive last Monday but because it was over 48 hours since our last contact I didn't go down onto the test and trace thing. Neither of us have the app. I've had no symptoms at all but have run out of coffee, chocolate and gin so very much relying on going to the shops on Saturday!! OH has been pretty poorly this week with a high temp but now has a very mucusy cold. If I was going to catch it from anyone it would be him as I'm not in close contact with anyone else.

My DD lives with 5 other people, 3 of whom tested postive. Shes been isolating for 2 weeks and doesn't have any symptoms. She doesn't have the app but was sent a text by T & T.

redsky21 · 04/11/2020 16:50

I'm self isolating at the moment after looking after a baby at work who then tested positive. Don't have any of the listed symptoms but do feel a bit rough today, can't quite put my finger on it but don't feel right. Hopefully nothing

picklemewalnuts · 04/11/2020 21:08

Having raised doubts earlier, DS1 tells me that a few people in his company have tested positive. So less mysterious!
