I don't intend this thread to be all doom and gloom, i suspect some will be positive :.
Work travel and office work. I used to travel two or three times a month, I suspect that will be two or three times a year in post covid times. Prior to this there was a real aversion to using the technology
Handshakes. Never coming back imo.
I really hope packed railway carriages are at an end but I doubt it.

Positives for me

No more standing at the bar trying to get served for ages.

Pubs closing early and no more nightclubs can only be positive for family life and relationships in general

Ordering by app in a restaurant

Less traffic on the roads

People not being allowed in my Personal space

@ShulaArcher

I honestly think nothing will change. Before we know it, most will be acting as though 2020 was a blip. It's how humans endure.
Agree with that. Covid might speed up some processes which were already happening - more video conferencing, the decline of the high street, perhaps less business travel - but in the grand scheme of things it will likely be a blip.

The idea that nobody will ever again shake hands or attend a crowded concert is nonsense.

General understanding that households may need state financial help from time to time and less shame in that.

Haha! Errr no! See ALL the threads where benefit bashing is still very much going on and even at start of lockdown in Mar/apr posters who were now claimants themselves STILL thinking they were above other claimants and that therefore "normal" claimant rules shouldn't apply to them!

Personally - dx ocd is relevant

I'm hoping:

WFH far more normalised and available to do

People finally respecting others personal space. I'm housebound at the moment but one of the things I really hate when I'm out and about was people being too damn close! And not just ocd but security wise too like at tills and cashpoints

People more aware and better at personal hygiene esp handwashing. Yes mine is excessive but due to the ocd I notice others habits too and there were FAR too many using public loos and not washing their hands at all! Some would maybe splash a little cold water on then dry their hands on their clothes! Very very few properly washed their hands with hot water and soap - gross!

I'm hoping telephone medical appointments remain. There was clearly no good reason they couldn't exist before cv as the tech has been there for many years but I'm really hoping the changes stay. Yes easier for people like me (of which there are far more than is generally recognised) but also makes appointments quicker which will no doubt mean more appointments available, and tbh it also eliminates a lot of prejudice if gp can't see you. I got dx for things this year that I've had or had similar before and got effective treatment quickly and unbiased mainly as the gp concerned could not see I was overweight. Yes weight is relevant for SOME conditions but not all and too often ime and that of others I've discussed this with, they focus on that leaving little time for what your actually seeing them about and it can even lead to misdx!

Handshakes - I don't shake hands (see hand washing point!) so I'm hoping this will be seen as normal rather than an oddity

More deliveries I hope will stay even though I'm not using this much at the moment because of stupid doorstep deliveries. That's not something I could cope with

Environmentally I hope the much reduced business travel stays. Again the tech has been available to make this largely unnecessary for years, its old fashioned and resistant to change idiots that have kept it!

Shopping local I hope stays and improves

Presenteeism reduces I hope. We have an appalling attitude to this in Uk and it serves nobody! Because employees going to work when sick just make others sick and aren't at their most productive probably for far longer than if they simply took a few days off and recovered properly. Numerous studies show it REDUCES productivity across the country as a whole, because of course these employees aren't just making their colleagues sick but their colleagues families, then their families colleagues and contacts eg person goes in sick to work, passes infection onto colleague who passes it onto their child who passes it onto their teacher etc so it means multiples of people unproductive rather than just one! Plain stupid!

Training and meetings are simply not effective on a teleconference. define effective and non effective? If it's a person just telling you stuff and possibly answering questions I really fail to see how a video conference can't achieve this perfectly well.

More practical training eg 1st aid, lifting and moving etc yes it's good to physically practice but theoretical stuff? Nah!

I hope some things will stay and some not. We shall see

DS' school has PE days, different for each class. They go in wearing their pe kit. Much better! Must save time for the teachers and the kit actually gets washed once a week rather than staying at school!

Chickenandrice · 04/11/2020 18:13

I am loving that too minesril always thought it crazy getting changed for pe in primary school

I take it you are older than 18 and done all that

I think the youngsters will want nightclubs to make a return

Being able to work from home
More
Slower and mindful pace of life
Motivation to exercise outside

shinynewapple2020 · 04/11/2020 21:55

By 'changed for good' do you mean permanent change , or things that are better ?

Better for me is being able to WFH and I hope that continues , although it would probably do me good to have the occasional catch up in person with colleagues rather than just teams / WhatsApp

It would be good if it continues to be unacceptable to go into work when unwell instead of pressure to come to work when you are obviously unwell and contagious. Actually WFH is a winner here as there are less sick days taken

In the absence of other things to do we've been prioritising going out for country walks more which is better for our health

That's why I said it was job specific. If it's just a person telling you stuff then a teleconference is great. I'm used to training and meetings where there is a lot of collaboration and discussion and it just doesn't work so well on a call where only one of you can talk at once and you're limited by the sharing of a single online collborative tool. It now takes me 3 meetings to achieve what I formerly did in 1.
