I don't intend this thread to be all doom and gloom, i suspect some will be positive :.
Work travel and office work. I used to travel two or three times a month, I suspect that will be two or three times a year in post covid times. Prior to this there was a real aversion to using the technology
Handshakes. Never coming back imo.
I really hope packed railway carriages are at an end but I doubt it.

Masks worn by hairdressers. Much more hygienic. I hope they stay.

stella1know · 04/11/2020 08:15

Eating less meat, better conditions for animals to prevent future pandemics (we aren't there yet but need to be)
The end of cruise ships
Less air travel and fewer trips abroad, not 4 times a year to poor Mallorca.

Goawaybird · 04/11/2020 08:30

End of leisure and tourism. It’ll all go under and no one will have any money. The arts especially. Theatres and cinemas aren’t coming back.
No fun. Basically work and school and that’s all that’s left.
What’s the point?

BowlerHatPowerHat · 04/11/2020 08:42

I like the table service at cafes now. But I think dining out is going to change - there will be fewer establishments due to Brexit (putting food prices up) and Covid (fewer patrons allowed in at one time).

I'm also one of the very few who likes one-way systems in supermarkets. But I'm not sure we'll keep those.

ShaunaTheSheep · 04/11/2020 08:45

Respecting personal space ( obviously not everyone does so everywhere but it or refreshing to not be crowded in by strangers).

BarbaraofSeville · 04/11/2020 09:01

It's not the people who go 4 times a year to 'poor Mallorca' that are the problem and Mallorca will be indeed poor, if people stop going there.

People flying to Europe on holiday has a really tiny insignificant environmental impact even if going multiple times a year, compared with the weekly business flights and the simple existence of larger 3+ DC families even if they consider themselves environmentally friendly (recycling, second hand items, lots of walking, cycling and UK holidays).

I really hope screens in shops and masks worn evdwrywhere do go

People exploring their local area a lot more. I was shocked how many people (based on posts on local social media) did not realise we have a large park with a river practically next to us.

People realising that they don't have to rush from organised activity to organised activity but can live a much calmer slow paced life. And that they and their DC actually benefit from it!

Chickenandrice · 04/11/2020 10:28

Redskyatnight I hope this too. It certainly has for us

ShulaArcher · 04/11/2020 10:29

I honestly think nothing will change. Before we know it, most will be acting as though 2020 was a blip. It's how humans endure.

TheRuleofStix · 04/11/2020 10:29

I love the fact that dh doesn’t travel anymore - but he’s bored and I know he wants some work travel in his life to provide variety.

I would be sad if handshakes didn’t come back but I’m a very tactile person and don’t have an aversion to touching strangers!

I think there will be less travel but it won’t go for good.

I don’t want masks or shields to stay Sad

BarbaraofSeville · 04/11/2020 10:30

Ha ha. I've been enthusiastically walking our local footpaths since March, and thought I'd covered all those in existence many times over, but it took until September to discover one of them, which cut out a section of road. I'd walked past both ends of the footpath dozens of times but never actually noticed it was there.

Agree about exploring local area. Sadly a lot of 'my' paths are unpleasantly muddy now, but it's been really nice over the summer to just pop out to for a couple of hours exploring.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/11/2020 10:31

Not having to travel for several hours for a 1hr meeting.

Indecisivelurcher · 04/11/2020 10:35

People getting out into nature more, valuing our nature reserves. I hope they will get more funding and that new green spaces will be created.

People driving less.

Shopping local and supporting small businesses. My local farm shop has been brilliant and is going from strength to strength, likewise my local refill shop.

Blownaway1 · 04/11/2020 12:41

It being taboo to have a cold and just carry on about your day coughing and spluttering all over everyone

PostItJoyWeek · 04/11/2020 12:54

Recognition of the prevalence and importance of small businesses.

Agree with this. So much more airspace is taken up by people travelling for business rather than pleasure. Travelling to another country for a few meetings, there’s no need for it at all.

I really hope that pushing people to stay home when they’re sick in order to protect others continues. I’ve always gotten so angry at people coughing, snotting and spluttering in shops, on transport and in offices. People should always have been staying home when they are sick in order to protect others, but it’s taken a pandemic to realise this.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 04/11/2020 13:48

Hoping online training and meetings stay, far better than mixing in a room especially in winter as someone always comes to one ill.

Not having to handshake is great so I hope that stays.

I also think it should be the norm to wear a mask if you have a cold etc so stop the spread.

yeOldeTrout · 04/11/2020 16:51

I miss handshakes.

I expect few of PP's proposed changes will stick after 2021. The only one that might stick is more telecons & fewer work mtgs in person that require expensive time-wasting travel.

Notthegoldenchild · 04/11/2020 16:55

People not standing on my shoulder in the supermarket when I am trying to put my shopping on the belt. How they thought they would get to the till quicker is beyond me.

RedskyAtnight · 04/11/2020 17:00

Hoping online training and meetings stay

I think this must be job specific. Online training and meetings are the part about working at home I probably dislike the most. Training and meetings are simply not effective on a teleconference.

stargirl1701 · 04/11/2020 17:03

Snow days. We'll be setting work on Teams for pupils to do at home! (Scotland)

FireUnderpants · 04/11/2020 17:11

I hope my gp surgery are planning on keeping their online consult form permanently. I have used it 3 times and for us it has been brilliant. Once for DS who needed antibiotics for an infected cannula site, we just uploaded some photos, he didn't need to miss any school and they pinged a prescription to the chemist within an hour. Another time he had a rash from some medical adhesive, cream was recommended and his repeat list adjusted for something different.

I hope it'll free up appointments for those who need to be seen in person.

Table service in the cafe at the garden centre is amazing.

Zoom calls for secondary school parents evening. Instead of the brutal musical chairs in person, where someone grabs your chair in your slot and then that makes you late for your next slot, so you steal someone else's. Some years I've been there for hours and only seen 3 teachers dispite having 8 appointments booked. This year I spoke to all of dds teachers from the comfort of my kitchen. I could actually hear what they were saying. Marvellous.

No going into primary school classes for an 'open class afternoon' or a 'watch a phonics/maths/theme topic lesson'. It's annoying, we never learn anything and I always feel sorry for those who's parents are working and can't make it. With out fail there is always one poor DC crying and looking for their missing mum.

MarshaBradyo · 04/11/2020 17:14

I think most if not all will come back

surveybuilding · 04/11/2020 17:14

@TurquoiseKiss

For me, promptness / availability of Dr's appointments - albeit over the phone or video call initially. However no arriving in the surgery on time to only be seen 45+ mins later.
Yes the telephone triage worked well for us recently
