Does school teacher have access to weekly test? I know university offer their teaching staff who offer face to face lessons regular test, but I don't hear about school teachers.

Nope.

Punkpumpkin · 02/11/2020 20:12

No.

They are trialling it in some places but Boris has extrapolated that to say all schools will soon be having tests all the time. Based on previous performance, highly unlikely I’d say.

Candyfloss99 · 02/11/2020 20:14

No have never been offered a test just because I'm a teacher.

whyarewehardofthinking · 02/11/2020 20:15

No. We had a complex case where 2 positive students were still in school (Mum refused to tell school about the tests or results and Dad confessed when he came to pick the obviously ill child up) and therefore both bubbles had to go home. We asked PHE if we could use the tests that we had in school on staff who had been in physical contact with these students (including the member of staff that cleaned up the vomit of one of them) but we were told very strongly that they couldn't be used on staff at all.

MrsHamlet · 02/11/2020 20:16

Nope.

Summerhope1 · 02/11/2020 20:16

oh, that's a disappointment. I think we should do more to make the school safer. Like easy access to test, make the classroom well ventilated , space the students out, maybe for shorter days and combine with some home learning etc.

If the teacher can get weekly test, and students can do pooled test regularly, that would be much safer.

They don't want to do mass testing of schoolchildren ... they would end up closing many many bubbles!! It would be carnage.

year5teacher · 02/11/2020 20:21

No, I’d love that though. It would make me feel so much safer and more happy to see my family - although you could always get it the day after the test. It would still be a lot better than it is now.

MrsHamlet · 02/11/2020 20:21

Piggy speaks truth. Testing would reveal that schools are - shock horror - not Covid safe at all.
The government do not want that.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 02/11/2020 20:22

No tests for us. Can't get a flu jab either.

starrynight19 · 02/11/2020 20:25

No nothing nada zilch !
Even in schools with 20+ cases that elusive mobile testing unit they promised on an outbreak has never materialised.
Will believe any testing to make schools safer is actually happening when I see it Sad

There is a trial out in a certain area as a family member is a teacher. All teachers along with all children are tested every week.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 02/11/2020 20:44

I’m guessing if this is successful they may roll it out for all, maybe.

I wish they would do this!!

But no sign of any tests, even some teachers who have been in contact with a positive case then felt unwell were told to just isolate and not bother testing.

Scarby9 · 02/11/2020 20:50

No flu jabs (yet?) either.

MrsHamlet · 02/11/2020 20:50

Our LEA has decided NOT to give us flu jabs this year.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 02/11/2020 21:00

My family members school have been trialling a spit test. They get their results on a Monday evening. It has been on the local news. It’s been going really well so far.

I'm keeping my fingers firmly crossed for something like this to be rolled out. Spitting has got to be better than constantly rootling up your nose hasn't it?
Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 02/11/2020 21:32

I really hope so too. I’d feel much better if this was happening at my DCs schools. My family member definitely feels less anxious because they are testing so regularly.

Loveatortie · 02/11/2020 22:09

I live in a small city, nothing in the news locally or nationally about our schools, have teacher friends, friends who have children at school. Its not great.

Frazzled2207 · 02/11/2020 22:34

@ChristmasinJune
of course - my 7 year old absolutely hated getting tested (twice) and I feel very lucky that my 5 year old has not had to get one yet as I am certain he will not comply

I think back in the spring we all imagined this sort of thing to be fairly commonplace by now

FancySomeChips · 02/11/2020 22:39

Nope.

But GP offered flu jab (asthmatic) at app for something else last wk... declined it as it always makes me so ill.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 02/11/2020 22:41

No. Not even a monthly test.

No test so far despite having covid positive child in class. Only immediate adjacent children sent home.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 02/11/2020 22:42

(Family member is the teacher not me)

DelphiniumBlue · 02/11/2020 22:43

Hilarious. No, because if we tested positive we'd have to be sent home. And who would look after the children then? And, as above, the offered flu vaccines have now been cancelled.
