We only walked past and fortunately did not enter.
With so many not complying I can see the government having no
choice in doing another lockdown

@Mrsjayy in Liverpool St. John's has big windows and you can easily see in.

AllPlayedOut · 02/11/2020 15:05

BlanchflowerTulip I have understood that in tier 3 you can only go to restaurants with your own household. I don't really understand why they are taking risks. Elderly I know avoid all the busy places. They meet outside for a walk in parks.

Perhaps because they're quite happy to take the risk, and in life literally everything is a risk. and prioritise their quality of life rather than do very little beside freeze their backsides off in a park? I see plenty of elderly people going to shops and cafes and I would do the same. I spent the best part of two years in the house, barely going out due to mental health issues and it was existing not living. Each to their own but you could keel over anytime. I'd rather enjoy my last weeks/months/years.

Xmaspartyanimal · 02/11/2020 15:11

@AllPlayedOut is not that we have been in this situation years. Vaccination is coming etc. I wouldn't mind them going out but the thing if they get ill they will take hospital bed and stay longer.

IcedPurple · 02/11/2020 15:15

Yes, I agree that it is fortunate for the patrons - who do not appear to have been in violation of any regulations - that uptight, judgemental people like you did not enter and spoil their meal.

AllPlayedOut · 02/11/2020 15:27

We still don't know how long vaccination will take. They have as much right to go out as anyone, whether you like it or not, and as for treatment I see them as no less deserving, but if there are shortages then the medical teams can make those decisions as they do anyway. In spite of the hysteria on MN, not everyone will need a hospital bed. They aren't all going to keel over or become extremely ill, yes some will, but many others will show no symptoms or have a relatively mild illness even some with considerable vulnerabilities. They could take up a bed by breaking their hip while walking in the park or driving, amongst numerous other things. Do you want them to stop doing those too?

I know a relative that works for a Wetherspoons thanks so much and I’ve never seen or heard of such stricter measures taking place
You HAVE to give your details at the door to a designated person , if they walk off to attend to something else and you get missed then they come to the table to ask if you if you’ve filled in the track and trace form.
There are sanitisers everywhere and all staff on the floor wear a mask , if you get up for a smoke you’re asked to put on your mask while you walk outside to the smoking area and the same if you go to the loo , I forgot to wear mine while I popped to the toilet and a member of staff came over and politely reminded me that as I was walking through the pub could I please wear the mask , they have some disposable masks also , if you forget
There are plastic dividers between tables on all tables
They encourage you to order from the app so you are not at the bar
I don’t know what more they can actually do
I went to a greene king recently and they were so aggressive in their approach , I was also people watching and the man on the door was literally interrogating groups of people he pissed quite a few off

Xmaspartyanimal · 02/11/2020 15:44

@AllPlayedOut Well wetherspoons will close on thursday so less for me to complain.

DramaLlama12 · 02/11/2020 15:47

Also, just to add I visit my local Wetherspoons at least twice weekly scanning the QR CODE on every visit and have been since they reopened, I’ve not had one alert on the NHS app to say I’ve been in close contact with someone who’s tested positive

CastleOfDoom · 02/11/2020 15:47

@Devilesko

AcornAutumn

Not the thread for it but google, please.
They were forced to pay out thousands in court cases.
Then did a u- turn when their racism was highly publicised.
I don't blame the staff or individual management, this came from the top, no mistake.

I've googled but can only see one court case against one pub, are there others?
AllPlayedOut · 02/11/2020 15:49

Yes I'm aware of that thank you, but I'm sure that you and the other curtain twitchers will find some other excuse.

FannyFernackerpan · 02/11/2020 15:57

@Devilesko

Well they will be shut soon anyway and some probably never reopening

OMG this would make my year, horrible tax dodging racist cunts.
Hopefully all, not some.

Their founder doesn't like the EU (neither do I) Not sure that makes him a racist, given the diversity the many young people Wetherspoons employs, likewise those of all ages who use their establishments.

Wetherspoons also takes empty old buildings in towns and cities, renovates them sympathetically and breathes new life into them. Most otherwise would be boarded up, or demolished.

I'm a single mother on low income and my son was able to pay his own way through Uni by working in a Wetherspoons in his University town 300 miles away during term time and then in our hometown when he was home in the holidays. They treated him extremely well and he also got a share issue which he was able to cash in to help pay for his first car.

"Take any one of their pubs: all of life is there. From the old guy who’s been nursing his pint since 11am, to students and young professionals or families wanting an affordable meal out. It caters for everyone, all are welcome. People will always sneer at Wetherspoon’s, but guess what Wetherspoons gives zero shits."

I work for Weatherspoon and DramaLlama12 has said everything I came on to say. This is exactly how it is in my pub and from talking to other staff how it is in all the pubs.

There are quite a lot of older people in my pub during the day because coffee is cheap and endless free refills and so is real ale which the old men like.
A lot of them are on their own and come in for a chat with others. They know the other regulars and the staff.
I worried about some of them being lonely during the last lockdown.

Oliversmumsarmy · 02/11/2020 16:14

If I was vulnerable by age or other ways I wouldn't necessarily go to busy town centre let alone Wetherspoons

Dp is in the extremely vulnerable group and couldn’t give a shit about staying in.
He won’t be taking any notice of being shielded again if he gets another letter from the doctors.
Life is for living. He probably doesn’t have that long left and it is going to be particularly bad but after 4 months of staying in which affected him more than having the virus he isn’t going to stay in again.

So sorry to hear that @Oliversmumsarmy and you're absolutely right, life is for living. This came out of the blue! Who's to say it won't happen or something like that again? Flowers

@RegularHumanBartender

Daft enough to go, you sort of deserve what you get, not like folk don't know

Am I reading this right? People who go to the pub deserve to catch coronavirus?

Is the]at the same for everyone, bartender?

Go to a restaurant - well you know the risk, you deserve it.
Go to the zoo - well you know the risk, you deserve it.
Go to the shops - well you know the risk, you deserve it.
Go in a bus/train - well you know the risk, you deserve it.

I caught covid in the school I teach, almost certainly from a symptom free child. I certainly knew the risk, especially,as someone who,is clinically vulnerable.

But hey - you know the risk, you deserve it, yes?

Aragog · 03/11/2020 11:02

Sorry bartender, I know you were quoting it. I meant devilesko

My MIL is bubbling with a friend. Fil died at the start of the first lockdown and she stayed with us. This time she is settled back at home and to avoid being in her own all the time she and a friend have decided to bubble and yes, right now MIL and her friends are going out for meals, etc whilst they can.

The weather here is truly week and last, so going for a walk out outside isn't really an option. Tbh they'd possible me more at risk health wise by getting so cold and wet!
