So how likely is it that MPs vote against the lockdown on Weds?

I’m hazarding a guess fairly unlikely?

But if they do does the govt have to accept the vote?

Some bizarre posts on here (are these the same people who believe the vaccine will turn us into chimpanzees?).

It's as @merrymouse says. The fact that our test, track, and trace was world beatingly incompetent doesn't mean we don't need a (functional) system.

Scientific experts are saying what they're saying because they are experts who go by hard data and scientific evidence. That - and common sense (and a dash of morals).

Expert adviser to the Scottish government, Prof Sridhar, explains it well:

Three paths for governments: ‘simmer’ virus & be stuck in lockdown/release cycles, do nothing & let it rip or aim for elimination with strong test/trace/isolation, good guidance to public & border measures. Two of the above paths lead to large economic costs; one less so.

Anti lockdown does not equal far right.[/quote]
Ecosse Ok. Perhaps it's just coincidence that it's the (often, far) right in favour of 'letting it rip'?

@MercyBooth

Why hasnt Starmer gone for a vote of no confidence against the Government

There’s no way he’d get the numbers

I think it will pass. Some cons will oppose but the situation is fairly stark

Scotland's measures seem to be helping:

From Prof Sridhar to Nicola Sturgeon:
Relief to hear cases in Scotland fall under 1000 (but could be due to weekend). Let’s keep sticking with it- get outside for exercise & socialising, avoid crowded places, wear face coverings, & limit your travel. Crucial juncture to keep driving low.
