Can we drive to an area for a walk?

Or is it like last time when you had to walk/exercise in your local area.
I want to be able to take my toddler on a walk in the woods that’s a 15 min drive from us.

I am saddned to read of people abusing fleas.

TravellingSpoon · 01/11/2020 12:39

I abused fleas this morning - put advocate on the cat.

randomer · 01/11/2020 12:39

Maybe they will provide bikes? Must be a very go ahead local council.

And remarkably speedy with their response.

A poster who is clearly neither of those things and has no fucking clue.

I do find these threads funny, but as a PP has said I do think that more moderation is required. There are posts that do need deleting. Idiots making up their own rules and lecturing people about nonsense they've made up.

randomer · 01/11/2020 13:01

@TravellingSpoon, I wouldn't go public with animal abuse but it's your call.

I'm going to make more of an effort to report actual misinformation I think, rather than poking stupid with a stick for my own edification.
RegularHumanBartender · 01/11/2020 13:10

I will do the same Orcus

Last time the guidance ( eventually) said that driving to a exercise/ walk was ok as long as the travel was not longer in duration than the exercise . So driving an hour probably not ok. 15 mins drive for a long walk/ run/ cycle fine.

Orcus · 01/11/2020 13:13

Fab, thank you. I have started with SoloMummy's bullshitting efforts this thread: she's been on quite the spree this morning. I genuinely hadn't realised how harmful this sort of thing was to some MNers until this thread. It's really awful and posters deserve protection.

@Rosebudsandraindrops

My support bubble is 7 miles away and I feel scared to drive there even now. I’m terrified I will get stopped. I don’t even feel like I want to drive the dc the 3 miles to their schools. This is how I felt last time too. Constantly on edge, as though I might be arrested at any moment. I’m done with it. If I’m stuck in this house in a difficult marriage (the support bubble is a single adult so technically I am their support bubble but tbh it’s working both ways) and I can’t even go for a walk with someone then I might as well end it all now. My parents are about 5 miles away and I thought maybe I could meet my mum on her own and walk around the park but seemingly I can’t do that either. I’ve no friends within walking distance so that means I can’t see anyone outside my household again doesn’t it. Forget it. I’m done.
You can drive to meet your mum for s walk if it is only 7 miles away. That is absolutely fine
gingerwhingerwife · 01/11/2020 13:36

Last lockdown the roads were empty. Everyone at home so any car was noticeable. This time there will be schools, colleges and universities open so will be all the traffic associated with them

Mudlark1ng · 01/11/2020 13:39

Not down country roads. There will be less people out walking too as parents won’t have children and teens they need to get out.

Duggeehugs82 · 01/11/2020 13:53

@Completmentfille

Mid April, the County police turned up to my door to say I had been reported for driving to take exercise

What sad bastard reported you?!

Good question
Orcus · 01/11/2020 14:00

Did you complain?

ScarletORyan · 01/11/2020 14:13

Last time, our council closed off all the car parks at parks and open spaces. Hopefully they won't do so again. Our local area was like Piccadilly Circus.

AlicjaCross · 01/11/2020 15:01

I will be driving to go somewhere for a walk, there’s only so many laps of my village you can do without getting really bored.

Oh well, we can't have you bored can we Hmm It's not like you can listen to music, a podcast, a book .........oh wait

Lemons1571 · 01/11/2020 15:04

We had the police stationed on a road out of town every Sunday, stopping every vehicle and asking for the purpose of their journey. Turning round people that they deemed to not have a good enough reason to be out. This is a naice town in middle England. It was grim tbh.

Facelikearustytractor · 01/11/2020 15:26

I recall the government stating that you can travel to exercise, but use common sense (i.e, don't drive for 2hrs each way for a walk for two hours), so I would say a half-hour drive to walk somewhere quiet is fine, rather than walking around a busy street/park.

I think the 1hr exercise was a recommendation rather than law the first time around, but most people went with the 1hr.

God the worst thing about this lockdown is going to be all the tedious frothing on here about minor things like this isn't it.

Yes, these dicks with be polishing their pointy sticks and exercising their condescending angry voice in preparation for the "covidiots". I like-wise will be dusting my best "fuck off and get a personality" voice. Mind you, as we are all wearing masks we can mouth it instead and they'd be none the wiser.

Noideawottodo · 01/11/2020 15:27

So far the guidelines don't limit driving anywhere, for those who are getting their knickers in a twist

Completmentfille · 01/11/2020 15:43

Yep. I predict lots of:

"what makes you so special"

"I presume you'll be happy to not receive hospital treatment in the event you catch covid 19"

"IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU."

repeat until end of time or until there is a vaccine, which ever is sooner.

So boring.

MaxNormal · 01/11/2020 15:49

God it's like March all over again.

We'll be driving to go for walks, seeing as that's the only fun available.

WinterWalking · 01/11/2020 15:50

Isn't it just. Even the police climbed back down off this particular hill last time, looking rather sheepish as they did so.

So utterly tedious. Quite fun to stir the pot a bit though Wink
