Anyone else think that all children over 3 should wear a mask?

Honestly I don't feel that it is that hard. DD9 (Year 4) says that no one in her school (including teachers) wear a mask or a shield and she is the only one wearing one. DD says that some children in her class cough in each other's faces for a laugh and the teachers do not tell them off or anything. My friend's child is in reception and he has no trouble at all wearing a mask for the whole day.
In my country even babies wear masks and now it is almost back to normal.
I think children especially need to wear masks as they are the ones who get so close up to their friends etc. Even if over 11s wear masks as soon as we get home we would just get all the germs from school that the child took home which makes the cases rise so much here in the UK. In my area there are a lot more confirmed cases in primary schools than secondary schools and sixth forms.
Anyone else share the same opinion?

Nope, nope, nope.

RandyGiles06 · 31/10/2020 22:35

Ha ha ha ha I’m just imagining me trying to put a mask on my 16 month old... Grin

FatimaMunchy · 31/10/2020 22:35

No

Givemeabreak88 · 31/10/2020 22:36

My 3 year old won’t even wear a hat, she lasted about 6 minutes outside wearing one, so do we just kept forcing masks back on then?? I don’t force her hat back on if she takes it off I leave it off, so no I won’t be forcing a mask on her

Sleepyblueocean · 31/10/2020 22:36

All children can't wear a mask whether or not you wanted them to.

onedayinthefuture · 31/10/2020 22:37

Should just go one further and sew up mouths and noses. Probably butt holes too.
Covid farts are real.

EasterIssland · 31/10/2020 22:37

I’m Spanish think they have one of the most extreme laws at the moment.
3-6yo kids optional
6+ compulsory
Below 3 it’s actually dangerous as they could run out of breath.
Also not sure how are you gonna make a child wear one without touching it when they tend to touch everything

yonnie8 · 31/10/2020 22:37

@RandyGiles06 I was talking about it being compulsory for primary school age children.

No and I don't think masks make any difference. Probably spreads it more.

Sandytoes86 · 31/10/2020 22:38

Children that young will (in majority) be touching their face mask constantly, completely negating the reason for one. It is dangerous for babies (under 2’s) to wear face masks , surely that’s common sense

raviolidreaming · 31/10/2020 22:39

Albeit not in schools, but over 5s wear masks in Scotland.

annabel85 · 31/10/2020 22:39

The cut off should be secondary school

WhyNittyBitty · 31/10/2020 22:39

Definitely not. No way will my dc be wearing a mask

yonnie8 · 31/10/2020 22:40

@Sandytoes86 I see grown adults touching their masks constantly as well not just children. Even if they touch it at least they won't spread their germs to others.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 31/10/2020 22:40

No way.

yonnie8 · 31/10/2020 22:42

@EasterIssland In Korea everyone from Kindergarten (age 3/4+) must wear a mask (unless they have a health condition) or they can not come to school- at least in my niece's kindergarten.

No. It's not the rules in England and I will be one who objects most strongly if they ever tried to MAKE it the rules in England.

I judge people who put very young kids in masks. I will continue to do so.

Hiding the thread now as you're obviously a mask-obsessed one.

TempsPerdu · 31/10/2020 22:45

No, utterly ridiculous idea (and pretty cruel to boot). Aside from all the practical issues, how are young children supposed to learn social skills if they and all of their peers are masked? 55% of all communication is nonverbal (facial expressions and gestures).

jambeforeclottedcream · 31/10/2020 22:45

No yabu and ridiculous
For a start primary school is from 4 years old not 3. And even then that's seen by many as far too young

JingsMahBucket · 31/10/2020 22:49

@yonnie8 YANBU. Everyone in my city (NYC) is mandated to wear masks from 2+ years old. We have really high compliance and we’ve weathered the storm much better than most other cities in the country and the world. Our rate is rising but at much slower pace than anywhere else and we’re relatively safe compared to other areas around us.

The masks work. The social distancing works. Hand and face hygiene work.

paintmywholehousecobweb · 31/10/2020 22:51

No

yonnie8 · 31/10/2020 22:55

@TempsPerdu So you would rather get infected? Knowing that it can cause healthy people to die as well?
Why is it cruel when everyone over 11 must wear them? Surely having a child spread their germs to everyone is more cruel?

I see where you come from and I somewhat agree that even small children are able to wear a mask for a few hours (as they do in East Asia). But there’s no point doing that here in the UK where majority of people wear non medical grade masks. Fabric face coverings are sadly pointless, hence another national lockdown Sad

Sweettea1 · 31/10/2020 23:04

Just curious were your from?if it nearly back to normal now not heard of any country being back to normal. Also babies wearing masks is a bigger risk than covid why on earth would any1 cover a babies nose and mouth
