How have your DC reacted to news of another lockdown...

My biggest concern is mental health glad schools are still open but I think I did a parenting fail by DS 7 hearing some of boris's announcement but I was desperate to know. He was good at saying it worried him and missing friends again. Interested in how others are explaining it...we are currently tier 1 so a big change.

Mine said it was pointless and wouldn’t do anything to reduce numbers if the schools stayed open.

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 21:28

That schools should close and exams next year be cancelled

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 31/10/2020 21:28

16 and 14 year olds. Both annoyed schools are open. They enjoyed lockdown Hmm

Whatatoodoodle · 31/10/2020 21:30

Haven’t really told mine yet. They were gutted about moving into tier 2 and will be sad that swimming and brownies will have to stop again but hopefully it won’t feel as bad as last time as they’ll still see their friends at school and for the older ones I’m intending to let them go out for walks and bike rides with a friend

CurlsandCurves · 31/10/2020 21:30

‘Why do we have to go to school if it’s a lockdown ‘ 🙄

wendz86 · 31/10/2020 21:30

My two are happy schools are still open but disappointed other things like gymnastics will be shut (they are 5 & 9).

maudspellbody · 31/10/2020 21:31

As they are still going to school, they just shrugged. It doesn't really affect them. (15 & 8)

BunsyGirl · 31/10/2020 21:31

Upset that their football and cricket training will be cancelled. Happy that they can still go to school.

CurlsandCurves · 31/10/2020 21:32

And actually a question I can’t answer. Why do we go to school with all our friends but we can’t walk home with them or play on the park afterwards.

Attictroll · 31/10/2020 21:33

Im trying to go for the positive - you'll still see friends at school 😂 - better than last time. It's sports and playing with friends in park which are seen as losses

DS1 is disappointed but it's his birthday in November, his sport will be cancelled and he's hoping to start driving lessons and we're not sure if they'll happen. He's relived college is still open

DS2 is gutted school isn't closing and thrilled there will be no expectation of him to be sociable with his friends Grin.

My boys are chalk and cheese Grin

Has anything been said about walking to and from school? DS2 always cycles with his friends Sad
CKBJ · 31/10/2020 21:35

My DC shrugged and said what’s the point if we’re still going to school.

RightOnTheEdge · 31/10/2020 21:36

Mine are 8 and 9 they're not bothered except to be a bit disappointed that schools are not shut.
Dd did say "You work in a pub how will we get money?" but I told her that's not for her to worry about and she's forgotten about it already.

ekidmxcl · 31/10/2020 21:37

Kids will still see each other at school so really for mine it’s no different.

All but one of the covid cases we know of are at the kids’ schools. 20 cases. Poor teachers being thrown on the fire. Everyone is in lockdown not allowed to leave the house but teachers have to carry on as though nothing has happened. Plus, our school has been secretive about covid cases and so it’s no wonder there are so many.

Whatatoodoodle · 31/10/2020 21:37

Playgrounds are still open this time so I don’t know how they will police kids playing together.
Or are you expected to walk past if there is already another family there?

dingledongle · 31/10/2020 21:37

15 and 12 yr olds here!

Watching memes on phones during announcements- giggling away

15 yr old worried about GCSE's

12 yr old 🤷‍♀️

girlsyearapart · 31/10/2020 21:38

The secondary school two think it’s pointless without closing schools
The primary two are annoyed their weekend sports fixtures may be off
All annoyed that after isolating for a fortnight ( me and dh have covid ) the lockdown begins the day before we get out

RaggieDolls · 31/10/2020 21:39

Both happy they can still go to school. I don't think they understand that their other activities will be cancelled.

mamaduckbone · 31/10/2020 21:41

Pissed off that they still have to go to school but can't go out with the same people they go to school with. And no rugby. Can't say I blame them:

Nochangeplease · 31/10/2020 21:42

Ds 8. Worried until I told him schools would be open. Other than that he’s not bothered. It doesn’t really affect him. He doesn’t do any activities. We’re in a support bubble with grandparents who are the only local family we have. Not much will change apart from not occasionally meeting friends at a playground on a weekend but that wasn’t a weekly thing and even less so with this weather.

MushMonster · 31/10/2020 21:44

Better than first time because at least school is still open.
This year she managed around 6 days playing in the park with her friends, and still keeping SD in mind. And around 4 choir sessions in person. That was it!

manicinsomniac · 31/10/2020 21:46

Depends if extra curricular stuff is shut or not. Won't affect them much if they aren't. They'll be upset if they are but will cope as long as they have school.

A lot of posters saying activities will be closed - where is that from? I was looking for it on the BBC but can't see anything about children's activities at all. Just that gyms are a no and you can do sport outside.

mum2jakie · 31/10/2020 21:50

Disappointed that schools are staying open! They asked why they aren't closing this time when the school have made arrangements for online teaching via Microsoft Teams.

Schnoopy · 31/10/2020 21:50

When I told my 7 year old dd that we were going into another lockdown, she immediately responded with "oh no, I won't be able to go to school" and looked really sad. She was ecstatic when I told her that schools weren't closing but she's also upset that her swimming lessons will be cancelled as she'd just moved up a level and was so excited to go into the deeper end of the pool. Oh well.
