Anyone else just thinking 'for fucks sake'

Just seen the news about a 4pm new conference. I think we all know what this is going to be. And I'm just fucking fed up.

I work in an area that is very indirectly affected by the covid restrictions but it is crippling us. If people are out driving, there is no work for us. I work in car insurance... Claims to be exact. No travel, no crash, no claims.
The furlough scheme has just ended and the job support scheme requires a certain amount of work from those participating. So a second lockdown would mean very little work and therefore redundancy.
I am pregnant with dc2, waiting to buy Xmas and baby bits until we get some more money which now looks like it won't come in.
I can't do anything about it, no one can, but I'm fucking fed up of this shit. I'd still rather have the lockdown than the worst case scinario of deaths but it's still shit.
And if I'm told to shield, we'll that will just be the cherry on top of the shit mental health cake.
Anyone else need a massive rant about their own situation being shit?

I cannot stand the thought of another period of time with DH WFH and not being able to go out anywhere to escape having to listen to him all day.

Oh God... this is my life too. Him shouting on the phone all day.

Courtesy of Peston:

These are the measures to be announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson at his 5pm press conference, as I understand it. They will last until December 2.
And they are, in effect, a new "Tier 4" that will be imposed for a month initially to the whole of England - in a bid to curb a rise in coronavirus cases.
All pubs and restaurants are to close, though takeaways and deliveries will be permitted.
All non-essential retail will close, though supermarkets won't have to follow the Welsh example of fencing off non-essential goods.
There will be no mixing of people inside homes, except for childcare and other forms of support.
Manufacturing and construction will be encouraged to keep going
Outbound international travel will be banned, except for work.
Travel within the UK will be discouraged, except for work.
Overnight stays away from home will be allowed only for work purposes,
Courts, schools, and universities will remain open.
Outdoor exercise and recreation will be encouraged.
Private prayer will continue in places of worship, but not services.
It all starts at one second past midnight on Thursday. The regulations will be published in Tuesday, and MPs will vote on them on Wednesday.
One source told me to consider the regulations as a Tier 4 for the whole of England.
After December 2, the exit strategy is that different parts of the country will then have their local economies and behaviour governed by the existing tiers, namely Tiers 1 to 3, depending on how serious the virus is in these respective places.

@crimsonlake

Is maths not your strong point ?

At the peak we were losing 1000 per day , if we had carried on without lockdown thats 365000 per annum

Plus many more because no places in hospital at all .

Plus we have a flu vaccine plus many of those people were probably at least getting treatment in hospital.

My aunt and uncle never even got the chance of treatment.

So Jog on .

I agree OP - there has to be a better way of dealing with this.

Perhaps a full support package for the vulnerable (including those of working age) and let the rest of us go out and spend money and pay taxes to pay for it would be cheaper than furlough and job support scheme etc.

I also agree with the pp that said it was stupid to allow overseas travel in the summer. It should have been essential travel only to include visiting relatives but not just a holiday.

I hope this isn't stricter than March though with stupid rules like not being allowed to buy Christmas items in the shops until December or saying people have to stay within x miles of their home for exercise. Although I would like rules to say people have to unglue their hips and walk single file on pavements...

onedayinthefuture · 31/10/2020 16:36

It all bollox. If there's no vaccine in the next 2-3 months they need another plan.

Givemeabreak45 · 31/10/2020 16:36

Yep it’s awful. Found out I was pregnant with my first baby a week before first lockdown, due to have a c section this Friday just as we get locked down again.. no family locally so won’t be able to see anyone for any support/help. My dh was put on furlough in March then made redundant in July. I have a chronic autoimmune illness so am in the vulnerable group. It’s terribly difficult for so many people

Feellikefrighteningyeah · 31/10/2020 16:37

thenightsky and him complaining about the VPN not working properly etc. He works in the living room so it's horrendous

amusedtodeath1 · 31/10/2020 16:38

It's the Shittiest of all shitness OP. I'm with you in that I can see it's necessary but it's Soooo SHIT! Flowers

WotWouldCJDo · 31/10/2020 16:44

I've been struggling with this all day too. Tomorrow I'm leading a beach clean and will need a day off from the news.

thenightsky · 31/10/2020 16:45

@Feellikefrighteningyeah And if gyms and sports halls shut, I'll have him home every evening too, taking control of the telly buttons.

starsparkle08 · 31/10/2020 16:49

My mental health like many others is on the floor. I can’t see the point in living like this at all

Georgeoftheinternet · 31/10/2020 16:54

Same @starsparkle08 I hope they allow euthanasia

NorthGirl2 · 31/10/2020 16:55

It feels like a nightmare we can't wake up from

@crimsonlake

Interesting figures - : In the winter of 2014/2015, England on its own lost 28,330 people due to the ’flu, to say nothing of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Neither the Government nor the media batted an eyelid. All businesses and shops remained open, as did schools, restaurants, charities, churches, parks, and everywhere else.

Flights continued as normal. No holidays, weddings, or concerts were cancelled. The plans for the General Election, the Olympic Games, the 2016 EU Referendum, and even the Eurovision song contest continued to stay on track.

The police were not employing drones to keep us all under effective house arrest. Operations for serious conditions other than the ’flu were not being cancelled. Elderly and sick people could continue to see their doctors. And the economy was not being trashed for the younger generation.

In other words, life went on, completely unchanged. 28,330 people died of the ’flu in England alone. 89% of these people were pensioners. But life went on.

Lets say the flu season lasts from Nov-Feb, so for four months. That's less than 7,000 people per month dying from flu.

There is a possibility that people will be dying of Covid at the rate of several thousand a day, so there's no comparison really, is there?

At least give the source to this from the Pro Brexit website it comes from

wanderings · 31/10/2020 17:01

@MaxNormal Where did you read/hear that list?

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 31/10/2020 17:05

Delayed until 6.30, feels like they're playing with us

Maze76 · 31/10/2020 17:06

Yes it’s a crap situation- please go tell the chief science and medical officers what we need to do. There are countries where there is no such thing as the NHS, maternity care, clean water. In some countries they are not only dealing with COVID, but war and famine, ethnic cleansing. Yeah, I’m sick of it too ... but I count my blessings. A little inconvenience but I’m alive and thankfully not touched by this horrible virus.

AldiAisleofCrap · 31/10/2020 17:07

No because it’s lockdown or a prediction of up to 4000 deaths a day.

Starlive23 · 31/10/2020 17:07

I'm in almost the same position as you OP and feel your anger completely. No words or advice but totally agree it's all totally fucking shit, the suffering, its just everywhere one way or another.

Darker · 31/10/2020 17:12

crimson, COVID is not the flu. It’s much more infectious, and more dangerous. Stop it with the propaganda.

MsSafina · 31/10/2020 17:13

An epidemiologist speaking on the radio today said this could potentially last for 5 years.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 31/10/2020 17:14

Hi OP - sorry you're feeling so rubbish (and it is shit, say it as many times as you can!!)

I'm not sure if this will bring any consolation, but because schools etc are likely to remain open, people will still be using their vehicles more often. In France the traffic remains reasonably busy since they locked down - I don't think this lockdown will be as strict as the one in the Spring. I hope that brings some consolation x

MaxNormal · 31/10/2020 17:19

@wanderings it's from Robert Peston.

ILoveAnOwl · 31/10/2020 17:21

My husband was due to start his new job this week. The job that won't exist in lockdown. It is beyond shit...
