New lockdown impact on you

So as a new lockdown looms what does this mean to you? I think schools will largely stay open so honestly doesn't make much difference to me- even if schools 'close' like last time I'll be in work (teacher) and so my dc will have to go unless we really decide it's too dangerous. Dh works from home now.

I expect my baby groups will be cancelled and I will have no opportunity to make mum friends or see family. Will be stuck inside the house with my baby who has only met my family twice since he was born in May. The lack of support for new mums is shocking, and I worry about the effects on my little boy.

We are supposed to be exchanging contracts next week so really hope they still allow moving house

I'll still need to go to work (secondary teacher) but my son's first birthday is this Friday and I was so looking forward to having my parents and MIL around to celebrate (tier 1 area here). MIL flew over from Australia last weekend, having not seen my son since he was born, but is currently staying with family on the other side of England. If she can't come to celebrate with us, but I'm still expected to go in and teach 150 teenagers a day then I'll be pretty gutted.

Oh and we're supposed to be moving house, I'm supposed to have my 20 week scan which my husband was going to be allowed to come to for the first time all pregnancy, and all baby groups will be cancelled. May look like small things to others but will all massively impact my mental health.

southeastdweller · 31/10/2020 07:53

To the tier 3 posters, this was leaked to The Times and they're reporting we're heading to a lockdown similar to the first one but with educational settings staying open, so more restrictive than what we're currently living with in tier 3.

I'm gutted Ill have no gym for a month and no library to study in. Key worker here so that stays the same. I'll be visiting friends when I can, though.

Very little day to day impact for me as I'm a teacher in a tier 3 area so mostly I work then go home and work some more..... that won't change I suppose. My Saturdays will be boring as they were our 'treat' days where we went to the cinema or cafe or play centre for a change of scene. I can handle that in exchange for potentially being able to spend Christmas Day with my family.

Not much will change for me personally this month as it's my last month of maternity leave and DH can't work from home.

I haven't been doing much anyway but my children will miss seeing their grandparents.

I am really worried about a few family members' jobs and businesses.

I’m a single parent so will miss meeting up with friends/family unless they allow the support bubble and I had planned to do some decorating but that will depend on DIY shops staying open so will wait and see. It can wait if needed.

Otherwise not much will change as Ive reduced how much I go shopping etc due to the masks and wearing glasses. I have secondary school children though so waiting to see what is decided about them attending.

We have just come out of a redundancy process, survived and will continue to work from home. The impact will be on mental health, really struggling now. Because of the economic damage no doubt will be having another redundancy consultation next year

Husband was made redundant (automotive industry) can’t get work despite 20 years in the same job last time.

I work part time as a TA. We are going to be very poor.

I'm supposed to be moving home next Friday, we accepted an offer back in March but due to the last lockdown, then losing the property we were buying, then mortgage company taking 4 months to approve our mortgage etc it is now the longest sale ever on our estate agents books. We may still technically be "allowed" to move, but can we still have grandparents look after our daughter on moving day, put the cat in the cattery to prevent him getting lost during packing/unpacking, leave our house the day before so the removals firm can pack for us...?

I have spent the last few months in barely controlled depression and anxiety, and every single time I think that something might be getting just slightly more manageable then something like this happens.

It is no exaggeration to say that the only reason I haven't attempted suicide yet is my responsibility to my toddler daughter. But how much longer I can keep going I don't know.

Will manufacturing be allowed to Continue? I haven't slept a wink I'm so worried. My DP is a supervisor in a car factory and if they close again I doubt they will reopen. Stressed to bits

No impact on us financially as both still WFH. Generally only left the house once per week for a click and collect since this shit show started anyway.

DD Home from uni for a few days...Due to go back Monday. All her lessons have been remote.

Report
inappropriateraspberry · 31/10/2020 08:33

Not much. DH may work from home again, but could work in the office on his own if needed. I don't do many 'unnecessary' trips/outings at the mo, just baby groups will stop. If schools stay open, life will be pretty much the same for us!

CrunchyCarrot · 31/10/2020 08:35

No change here, DP has been working from home since March. I am largely housebound anyway. No kids so don't have to worry about schooling. I feel very fortunate not to be experiencing the problems some of you are, I do wish you all well.

I work in an infants school and dh in a food factory so we will both be working as normal. Bit worried about DH as he has diabetes and food factories are quite risky for spread. Dd is in 6th form, if that gets shut at all she can work online pretty well although I know she will miss the social interaction. I will miss seeing my family but I don't have a very active social life and my usual habits of dog walking, watching TV and MNing are unaffected. I will miss going for a coffee at the local Garden centre it is a big, usually very busy GC and I was only saying to DH last time we went that you would never have thought we would be going in to support their business.

My change is relatively minor...DDs swimming had finally caught up and overtaken where they were in March. Actually could start to see the possibility of moving up a level. So frustrating more than anything, especially for them.

I'll miss my Cubs.

I work in manufacturing but for non essential goods so we will close if non essential retail has to close. If we are forced to close then I expect the government to properly support the business and to pay us full wages, not this 80% again as it's not acceptable. It's the people on mininum wage that are suffering with this and being told they aren't allowed to work.

I hope school doesn't close.

Oh @Flev I'm so sorry you're feeling that way, it all sounds tough. Do you have anybody in real life you can talk to? You sound very unhappy. Keep reminding yourself that one day this will all be a distant memory. You will have your new house and enjoy spending time with your friends and family again. Things are tough just now but they will get better. Hang on!! Thanks

Well I’ll still be working as I work in care homes but in admin/training. Had it twice if you believe in the tests so I’m not so bothered about actual Covid anymore.
I am sad that I’ve paid for dance classes that were just about to go back in the studio at last and they will stop. Worried about my lovely DD’s mental health just missing all the fun parts of life again.
Sad for all the families of residents in care homes who can’t see their loved ones.

@notanotherlockdownsurely what are you staying in?

This leak is worse than anything as we don't have any facts and we are going to spend the next 3 days worrying.

Report

No difference really as we’ll both still be going out to work (schools), dc will still be at school. Just all the small bits of joy in terms of the odd coffee with friends, play date etc gone again.

Can’t wait.

I'm very worried about money, and whether the government will extend the furlough scheme. I'm on minimum wage in non essential retail, so even a drop to 80% would substantially affect us let alone 60% drop or more.. Sad

Well I work in a pub so I’m fucked. No idea what job support will be.

Dh will still WFH so no change there and fortunately he has recently had a pay rise that more than covers my wage. We had plans for that money though. Oh well.

My mental health may be an issue depending on how long it goes on. I NEED the structure of a working day.

Bmidreams I'm living in a very elderly and tiny Motorhome. It's got everything I 'need' but far from ideal and a million miles away from what I left. However I'm remaining positive ( even when I want to scream)
I'm not sitting on the streets, I still have a job, my loved ones are all sort of OK
Worse shit happens
