New lockdown impact on you

So as a new lockdown looms what does this mean to you? I think schools will largely stay open so honestly doesn't make much difference to me- even if schools 'close' like last time I'll be in work (teacher) and so my dc will have to go unless we really decide it's too dangerous. Dh works from home now.

Makes no difference to me. We will both still work. Key worker roles. We don't really go out much and l hate shopping with mask so have been avoiding shops apart from supermarket. No small kids so schools and stuff don't bother me.

RuthW · 31/10/2020 06:35

It won't make any difference to me same as the last one didn't. I'll still be working and I haven't been to shops or socialised since March.

lovelemoncurd · 31/10/2020 06:36

For me not much I've been WFH since March and am told I will be until next June at the earliest. I've been seeing less people anyway so I won't suddenly miss that.

DH is an SEN teacher in a PRU so he's been face to face all through with no PPE anyway. The kids have never socially distancing. Those teachers were neglected by the govt. I want him to take legal action when this is over.

DD 15. She would love to be told no school . She works pretty well online with her studies so I wouldn't mind tbh. She has anxiety around crowds so it would lessen her anxiety.

SonyaCisco · 31/10/2020 06:46

Not a lot different here, if schools are still open. I work in a school, and as that puts me at higher risk of exposure I can’t see my parents anyway as my Dad is ECV. Tho luckily I did see them yesterday as we had a 2 week half term here so we chose to limit our activities so we could see them after 14 days out of school. My kids will be (presumably) go to school and my OH works from home. We have been having take sways instead of eating out anyway and have stuck to outdoor activities, so pretty much carry on as (recent) normal here! Tho by normal I mean bumpy and stressful as 6 out of 8 schools have had cases in my small tier 1 town and both my kids have had to have time off isolating as contacts so am assuming that may well happen again unless more safety measures are bought in.

BullBailey · 31/10/2020 06:50

My mental health will suffer as I can’t see my family and I need them right now.

I worry about both my and DHs work places if they’re forced to close. Both could be on rocky ground.

NorthGirl2 · 31/10/2020 06:54

I will probably lose my job.

I work in tourism and this year has nearly destroyed it. All hopes were on the Christmas season and if that can't happen, there really is no hope.

lovelemoncurd · 31/10/2020 07:03

Absolutely no point of a lockdown without school closures. More half arsed government inaction!

Dumpypumpy · 31/10/2020 07:07

I need to know if old furlough scheme will be used for lockdown as the new scheme doesnt work for a full lockdown

Bmidreams · 31/10/2020 07:10

I know this isn't the title of the thread, but it's so frustrating to be heading back to work/school on Monday after half term, knowing that another week of school closures would have made a big difference. Now we're looking at a lockdown but schools still open.

allthingsred · 31/10/2020 07:11

Both of us will lose our jobs. I can't see past that right now my anxiety is through the roof.
My worst fear (3rd world problem as it is)
Is My kids waking up on Christmas day to nothing...it happened to me when I was a child at Christmas & I vowed it would never happen to mine.
I can't see how we will survive.
Looks like that fear is coming true.

Deelish75 · 31/10/2020 07:17

I’ve got two school age children, one in primary, the other in Yr7. If the schools remain open then they won’t be affected. I think they’ll keep the primary open, not sure about secondary, if they follow Wales then Yr7 will still go to school, if not then we are set up for home learning.

I’m hoping they’ll keep the kids playgrounds open in the park.

DP is WFH so nothing will change there.

My food shopping is already done online and I’m booked up as far as I can.

As for Christmas shopping, normally get most of it online late November/early December (probably do it earlier in case there is delayed delivery) I do go in store early - mid November, PIL like M&S vouchers, I like to have a look around Lakeland and I go into Sainsbury’s to choose Christmas cards and wrapping paper and buy them with our nectar points. Probably won’t be able to do that this year.

I’ve got a hairdresser appointment next week which may get cancelled, if it does I’ve got another booked for December. I’ve still got a couple of hair dye boxes left over if needs be.

Deelish75 · 31/10/2020 07:18

Also I’ll miss my weekly swim.

Dancingalong · 31/10/2020 07:19

Both DH and I will continue to work but neither can WFH. The biggest change will be the children’s activities and the gym for us. Both DH and I go almost daily for our mental and physical health. I will really struggle without it as my MH suffers in the winter anyway.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/10/2020 07:22

Do we know what the shape of this new lockdown will look like yet? Our area is scheduled to go into tier 3 over this week so it might be that it won't make much difference.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 31/10/2020 07:22

No difference for me.
Me and DH have been wfh since March and haven't really been socialising or shopping. I guess we've been feeling a bit too cautious to go hanging around in shops or cafes.
More of the same.

uglyface · 31/10/2020 07:23

Ok if nurseries stay open and grandparent childcare allowed - I’m a primary teacher. DP self employed so if he’s not allowed to work that solves the childcare issue, but more than 4-6 weeks of him not working puts us into the not being able to buy food category.

And before anyone starts saying that we shouldn’t have taken out a mortgage we can’t afford, we only own a tiny two bed flat, it’s just that we live in the South East in order to be able to access aforementioned grandparent childcare, but too far out of London for me to get Fringe pay.

Dumpypumpy · 31/10/2020 07:25

Argh, will nursery/preschool stay open? I hope so

ihearttc · 31/10/2020 07:27

I’m a TA so have been in throughout anyway. DH is now working from home so that will carry on. I’m not bothered about shops closing (I can get most things online) or restaurants. I’m most worried about DS1 who is in Y11, he has luckily managed the first half term with no isolations. The prospect of exams with lots of isolations or school closures is my top priority at the moment. DS2 is 10 and plays football 5 times a week (grassroots team and Academy). Lockdown was incredibly hard on him (harder than it was for me) and had a huge impact on his mental health. As long as he can go to school and play football we can cope with anything but I think sport will be one of the first things to go unfortunately.

MushMonster · 31/10/2020 07:27

Depending of which kind of lockdown we are talking about. We are in the welsh breaker, and that is not a difference to us, we just cannot go to non-essential shops.
But if the lockdown is stricter, like the first one, and secondaries close, we may face redundancies at work yet again, and miserable time for my daughter

Swishswish26 · 31/10/2020 07:28

Unless schools close, it would have no impact on me as my area moves into Tier 3 on Wednesday. Haven’t been to a non-essential shop for weeks anyway as dc’s have been in and out of isolation for the last month due to a crazy number of cases in the secondary school.

Meruem · 31/10/2020 07:30

Nothing will change for me personally. My job is wfh anyway, all my shopping is done online. I haven’t really been anywhere socially since restrictions were lifted. The writing was on the wall for another lockdown to happen so I’m not surprised at all. The reports are saying a post Christmas one is likely too.

GCAcademic · 31/10/2020 07:30

It won’t be any different for me. I am teaching face to face in a university, and I expect that will continue. I do not see my parents because of the risk I’m exposed to at work so, again, no difference there.

Underhisi · 31/10/2020 07:31

I would hope ds would stay in school because he did in the first lockdown. We travel to take ds to familiar outside places and I am not giving that up again because ds ended up on increased medication last time. The rest of it won't make much difference to us.

notanotherlockdownsurely · 31/10/2020 07:31

Currently living on a campsite waiting to complete on new house so may be homeless on Wednesday. That will be interesting having to still get to work an hour away with no access to a shower, water, electricity or anywhere to dump waste

cheeseychovolate · 31/10/2020 07:39

Self employed so no work if lockdown happens again, difficult but I'm in favour of another lockdown
