App has told me to self-isolate - but haven't been anywhere?

I've had an alert on the NHS Covid-19 app today telling to self-isolate until Sunday 8 November.

So counting back, that means I was in contact with someone on Sunday 25 Oct who has since tested positive and entered the details of their test in the app.

But I didn't leave the house on Sunday?

Any ideas please anyone?

I’ve had this and have also hardly been anywhere. Popped to the shops on Monday but didn’t stop anywhere or remain in close contact with anyone. Can’t understand how it’s supposed to work? I got the notification last night and I need to self isolate for 11 days. Means no childcare today so work is a write off! A lot of my friends are like ‘just delete the app’ which says a lot about why things are the way they are, although I understand why people have no faith in it.

Are most people who get this message ignoring it?

Lurkingforawhile · 30/10/2020 10:47

I’m not ignoring it, but a close friend said to me that it’s not legally enforceable so I know what he would be doing!! I know that’s techno correct (the track and trace system is however enforceable) but it’s the right thing to do. If I was going to ignore it I wouldn’t have bothered with the app. However those who have had messages which are clearly wrong for example because they’ve been isolating must be right to ignore them.

kondomeup · 30/10/2020 10:57

I haven't been notified on the app but I have had a closeish contact. I'm isolating because it's the right and considerate thing to do not because it's the law or whatever. I wouldn't want to associate or be friends with the sort of person who wouldn't isolate to protect others.

Corilee2806 · 30/10/2020 11:16

I completely agree it’s the right thing to do but it is frustrating when I’m sure I didn’t come into close contact with anyone. I was in a shopping centre running errands so never stopped anywhere for more than a few minutes! Yes, I agree that if you download the app it’s surely for this purpose! Seems pointless that millions have downloaded it though but then would ignore the instructions.

My friend has the notification and her isolation date is from the day the positive person had a test and probably not the date they had the close contact. So it's not necessarily the date that you had contact with the positive person.

@fiddlerjorwalker
Track and trace are idiots my dad caught it in hospital loads of negative tests
tested each time he was transferred ward put on a ward full of cover and would you believe next day tested positive .
He's been in hospital 10 miles away for the last 6weeks . No visitors allowed and she's been told to isolate for 14 days from last thursday .
It was a person who rung her my mum tried to explain she's 81 and the woman was having none of it you can't contact them at all.

So what if she is 81, she can still get and pass on covid

I know so explain to me he was tested negative on admission to hospital 6 weeks ago had loads of negative test for 5 weeks then tested positive last week it's 5 weeks since my mum saw him so how the fuck can she catch it from him 10 miles away .

dementedpixie · 30/10/2020 17:12

@rwalker your post wasnt very clear tbh
Maybe she had been in contact with someone else completely different and the call is unrelated to your dad being positive

Sorry I didn't explain it well . No the 14 days come from my dads test presume hospital gave them my mums details.
She was in tears 81 on her now not a lot we can do to support her and looks like my dad her DH of 50 plus years going to died and track and trace woman tell her about £10,00 fine and prosecutions frightened her TBH.

Lurkingforawhile · 30/10/2020 18:56

@rwalker that's awful, they should have been more sensitive. I think you can still help her if she needs carers even if isolating but I'm not sure. Worth checking. Flowers

rwalker · 30/10/2020 21:00

I think whats happened is he's got dementia and they gave my mum as a contact as In she will be able to give all personal info.
But they have taken it to mean she's a contact as in been in contact with him in the last 14 days woman from track and trace wouldn't have any of it .

Lurkingforawhile · 30/10/2020 22:00

@rwalker easily done. We have a whole new Covid lexicon now that most people find it hard to remember. Very unsympathetic response from the call centre. It worries me about how much power they have - could someone say they had spent time with you even if you knew it wasn't that long or that close. Would you get fined then?

Covidaquestion · 08/11/2020 21:07

So as of midnight I’ve competed my self isolation.

Just had an update from the app saying “good news, your self isolation is almost complete” then:

AT THE TIME OF TESTING YOU DID NOT HAVE THE VIRUS

WTF? I didn’t have a test. I’ve had no symptoms and no test.

If they can’t even make sure the app sends the correct messages to people how the hell do we have confidence in the accuracy of it alerting people to isolate?

A colleague got told her test had come back positive and she had to isolate for 14 days - trouble is she's never even had a test! She's into double figures of phone calls reminding her to isolate, asking for details of where she is isolating, asking for contacts etc.

MummaPI · 08/11/2020 21:18

I've got the opposite, I know I've been in contact with someone who has tested positive and my details have been passed to T and T, but they haven't contacted me.

Corilee2806 · 08/11/2020 22:34

Have the same message - self isolation period ends tonight and says my test was negative - but I was never asked to do one and didn’t need to as I was asymptomatic! They really need to spend some time getting this app to work properly...

Lurkingforawhile · 08/11/2020 22:39

Having stopped my isolation on Friday (enjoying some walks this weekend) I'm now very wary of having the app back on. Someone also told me that when you check into a place it doesn't check you out again until midnight which doesn't make much sense. I was keen for the app to work but have lost trust.
