App has told me to self-isolate - but haven't been anywhere?

I've had an alert on the NHS Covid-19 app today telling to self-isolate until Sunday 8 November.

So counting back, that means I was in contact with someone on Sunday 25 Oct who has since tested positive and entered the details of their test in the app.

But I didn't leave the house on Sunday?

Any ideas please anyone?

The T&T doesn't come to you at an exact date since contact, if I understand correctly. My mate's husband got a request to self-isolate but that came a day after the said self-isolation was supposed to end.

@JaJaDingDong

And people wonder why Covid is on the rise again.
Well people being told to isolate when they don't need to certainly isn't to blame

@Covidaquestion

Went shopping on Saturday -but no way was I in contact with anyone else for 15 mins closely, or anything approaching that.

I'll abide by it but it can't possibly be right as like I say, I didn't leave the house on the Sunday and 14 days from then is the Sunday I'm being told to stay in until!

Covid takes longer than 15 mins to pass on ?
dementedpixie · 29/10/2020 19:49

A close contact is classed as someone within 2 metres of you for 15 minutes or close face to face contact for any amount of time

Lurkingforawhile · 29/10/2020 20:02

@Goldensunnydays81 I've just got a message telling me to self isolate for 8 days but can't see the bit you mention on the app where it tells me where I had the contact. It's entirely possible I was in contact so just curious really.

Lurkingforawhile · 29/10/2020 20:04

It just has the encounter date down as today which is clearly wasn't and must have been 6 or 7 days ago

Goldensunnydays81 · 29/10/2020 20:04

Mine was from being in IKEA so i don’t know think I was near anyone for more than 15 mins and my brother and sister in law didn’t get the message to sent to them

Lurkingforawhile · 29/10/2020 20:05

Maybe it wasn't somewhere I checked in, and was just someone near me in a queue or something

Queenie24 · 29/10/2020 20:06

It makes no sense to me at all. My husband was in a staff meeting last thursday and 1 of them started having symptoms Saturday and has tested positive but according to his boss none of them need to isolate. Even though they were all in one room for nearly 2 hours

Lurkingforawhile · 29/10/2020 20:09

Were they distanced @Queenie24? We have very small numbers allowed in our meeting rooms now (so from 20 previously down to 4 people)

roarfeckingroarr · 29/10/2020 20:11

This is why I don't have the app

AliciaMayEmory · 29/10/2020 20:12

@Covidaquestion

But self-isolation is 14 days from contact - so it can't be Thursday or Friday or Saturday Confused Totally baffled.
We're just getting towards our isolation period. Our App started to count down from the day DH put his positive test result in, not, as we thought it would, from the day he took the test. So if someone you were in contact with a few days before the Sunday tested positive and they put their result then it would start to countdown for everyone from that day. When we spoke to the track and trace people, she said that the app was having loads of problems and to take it from the onset of symptoms and gave us a completely different date. It's all so messed up! In the end we took it from the test date as he was definitely positive or Covid on that day, as the track and trace date meant he was allowed out only 4 days after his result came through, which just seemed too soon.
Queenie24 · 29/10/2020 20:15

18 of them in one room so no

Go to the about the app section, there is a link to "Manage my data" which should tell you.

pastabest · 29/10/2020 20:18

I heard someone the other day on the radio who got an self isolate alert due to someone being sat in a parked car outside her living room window.

dementedpixie · 29/10/2020 20:24

www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-scotland-54418278 a case in Scotland where Bluetooth registered from one flat to another

Lurkingforawhile · 29/10/2020 20:25

@witheringrowan mine doesn't - it's an Android phone. Just lists the few places I've checked in, and says that encounter date is 29/10 (today!)

Lurkingforawhile · 29/10/2020 20:26

I would share a screenshot but it's got too much personal data

rwalker · 29/10/2020 20:26

Track and trace are idiots my dad caught it in hospital loads of negative tests
tested each time he was transferred ward put on a ward full of cover and would you believe next day tested positive .
He's been in hospital 10 miles away for the last 6weeks . No visitors allowed and she's been told to isolate for 14 days from last thursday .
It was a person who rung her my mum tried to explain she's 81 and the woman was having none of it you can't contact them at all.

Teateaandmoretea · 29/10/2020 20:30

And people wonder why Covid is on the rise again

It’s because it’s the autumn obviously Hmm

Bolshybun · 29/10/2020 20:48

The isolation date in the app goes from your test date. I got my test on 22nd and the app told me to isolate until 2nd November. It’s usually from your date of contact if you were near them up to 48 hours prior to their test date.
That being said, it’s not an exact science. I actually started with symptoms on 18th but there’s no way of changing the isolation date in the app once you input the code in from your result. So in theory the app could be miles out date wise when it tracks who you were near. In my case I was infectious probably a few days earlier. Thankfully I hadn’t been anywhere as my husband got poorly first so we were isolating anyway

Bambooble · 29/10/2020 21:02

My friend has had the same issue. She was working from home and didn't go out for a week, and has had a message saying she must self-isolate. She can't possibly have encountered anyone during the timeframe, and has decided that someone at her place of work has engineered it to ensure she doesn't return to the office so that she misses out on a particular work opportunity. To be fair, she is fairly paranoid generally. But it does raise questions about misuse

No they haven't, she does sound paranoid.

OP I would have thought it was the Saturday due to how it is calculated, did you go out at all then? I had an alert and couldn't think when it could have been, but it was followed by a phone call from track and trace the next day and it was a day before I had worked it out to be from the app.

IdblowJonSnow · 29/10/2020 21:13

Absolute horse shit and why I won't get the app unless it's compulsory.

MitziK · 29/10/2020 21:35

As it works on Bluetooth, I think this means your next door neighbours are having to isolate. My phone picks up their upstairs TV, one phone and a speaker when I'm in bed, but doesn't pick anything up downstairs, as the houses are mirror images with the hallway between both living areas.

gingerbread88 · 29/10/2020 21:36

Haven't had recent experience of test and trace, it's a shambles so I'd check it. There's a number you can call.
