IF the firebreak lockdown in Wales works and brings the R number down a lot, would you support a similar UK one or an England only short, strict lockdown?

I would support it.

Well, the government may very well need to do something soon because as it stands the people in hospital will exceed the April peak in probably 2 weeks or so. At that point. Deaths could easily be what 400/450 a day maybe ?

This will then continue and even get worse for months. The full 3 month lockdown was in spring and took months to get cases down and if we are keeping schools fully open it will be slower this time.

Even if we do not lockdown economic activity will take a hit. My workplace had a 30% absence in a 2 week period and I stopped seeing anyone outside of it for fear of spreading the virus to family and friends and am now isolating due to being infected and I can imagine lots of people will behave similarly as it gets more prevalent in the community.

Either way, workers in the NHS could be facing 5 months of hell. Much as I think the Dominic Cummings herd immunity idea from February is gaining more traction, as numbers climb and news reports roll in from hospitals bursting at the seams and Xmas gets closer I suspect the government may end up doing the same as Germany and France.

It won't work in Wales. Merthyr Tydfil has been under a local lockdown for more than a month now and case rates are soaring (outstripping Liverpool and Manchester). RCT aren't far behind. If people have been ignoring the "don't mix indoors" rules for a month, what makes anyone think that they'll start for this fortnight? Many schools will be back after only a week anyway so there won't be much of a drop for them.

@Chloemol

I support one now, Boris has missed a trick as it should have started this week. I am also happy to do a full on one like France or Germany.
Germany isn't having a lockdown. Its national restrictions aren't very much different from the tier restrictions here (except that I think they've closed leisure facilities again, not sure I agree with that as I think the chances of transmission at a gym or swimming pool are very small if rules are followed - big "if", of course- some operators (and users) are more conscientious than others).

France has banned exercise more than 1km away from your home. No thanks.

As for the going to Tenerife, I know their case numbers are low, but do feel a bit Confused that holidays overseas are still being permitted.
