It’s not going to work in Wales.
Before we broke up for half term, many of the year groups affected by Covid were years 7 and 8. They are back in next Monday and their parents (as well as the primary aged pupils) and teachers will all be back out and about. That’s hundreds of thousands of people back on the move and mixing in just a few days time.
Initially you might see numbers drop a bit because of this week, but then it’ll start to rise quickly enough once again.
During this “firebreak” I’ve seen groups of kids hanging about. My son was invited to his friends house (I said no), but the other boys went and DS felt very left out.
In the county I live, many people work and commute to Bristol/ Gloucester. That continues.
I think I’m past caring now, I guess I have been for a while. I can’t wait for the gyms to open back up and I’m desperate for a coat, so I’ll be shopping like crazy.
Everyone will be bored (we’re not allowed to go and buy a book or a jigsaw) and we’re all worried about more lockdowns before Christmas, so you can bet your bottom dollar, that shoppers will be out in force just as soon as they can be. I’m desperate to get into Primark!
The firebreak we’re seeing is desperate and political and half-arsed and it might cause a blip in Covid figures, but it’s doubtful that it will have any meaningful impact. The local large hospitals are struggling right now and WAG is hoping that one week of being at home is going to make the difference.
