Hi Everyone, just wondering where you are and what is happening where you are in regards to covid.
I am in Australia ( not Melbourne or Victoria ) we are still social distancing and not having large gatherings ( although in saying that the AFL final last weekend had a crowd of 37000) . Things are relatively normal here. Like the rest of the world, we are watching and waiting to see what happens.Tell me about where you are.

I'm in a Tier 1 area in the UK - no more than 6 inside or outside, kids at school, sports etc but no spectators or large gatherings. Lots of the UK is in tier 2 or 3 with tighter restrictions. At the moment dd is isolating over half term as dd came into contact with a Covid 19 case at school. Half term was so longed for but this is the reality, no activities or days out

user1471499545 · 29/10/2020 05:35

@PandemicPalava It's shit. I have friends scattered throughout The UK and Europe and as winter approaches I am getting more and
more worried for them.

I'm thankful that Dd hasn't missed school but I can see this happening more and more. I'm concerned that people in areas which have been under tight restrictions for a while are really struggling now.

MarshaBradyo · 29/10/2020 06:55

Tier 2 London
A few restrictions on mixing etc but most stuff open with SD. On half term but school back next week.

I have family in Aus (not Vic) and hear nice things.

Be good to hear from posters in other countries too.

I feel bad about not going to the zoo as I wanted to over half-term. This is because 16yo DS has a job in a chippy so time conflict. Zoos will presumably shut down if we go to national Lockdown as being campaigned for. All the zoos have been in crisis, I don't know how they will get thru all this without feeding animals to each other. Maybe I'll persuade DS we can squeeze zoo visit in before his chippy shift tomorrow.

I will try to go swimming as much as possible before pools all shut down, too. I hope govt keep support bubbles going because I have a friend who lives alone & I have become a lifeline for her. We broke Lockdown rules in April by meeting up for some walks & probably would do so again. There is rumour that secondary schools in England will close again. I can imagine this happening. Very glad 6th form DS had some social events in last 2 days. Younger DS hasn't done anything social in > 12months, but seems happy enough anyway.

I applied for (additional) PT job yesterday that is 60% of my current PT job salary. It is still much better pay than supermarket work which I was also looking at. I'll be grateful to have extra work because Lockdown is so boring. Supermarket work would mean getting out at least, which is attractive. I need to dig out my volunteer/keyworker pdf so I can show police when I go out for my volunteering role, presuming a heavy lockdown is coming.

My adult DC want to come here for Xmas. This is a problem because they hate each other but may not be go see their friends, either. We may have to force an adult DC to spend December elsewhere.

We have to prepare for Brexit too, in theory. I think to stockpile a little bit on things we'd usually get tariff free from Europe.

DH read something in news about a case at DC secondary school. I don't know anyone in UK who has had 'rona.

Tier 1 area in UK.

puppygalore · 29/10/2020 07:11

Tier 3 in South Manchester. We can't meet others inside or outside unless in our household, only people in our 'bubble'. Cinemas, some pubs etc still open, but I think soft play closed again. Quite honestly, it's shit and I'm fed up. My business has to close and never reopened. We've lived like this since March and though I do follow the rules, sanitise my hands, wear a mask etc I'm getting closer to the end of my rope. Kids activities are running but considering they've only been at school 6 weeks and 2 of those had to isolate, we don't want to risk further potential infection by attending their old clubs. So all we do is school, weekend walk at the park, and H goes to walk. It's a pretty miserable existence and there's no end in sight. We are lucky compared to most that my H has a job and we have our health, but I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel really.

puppygalore · 29/10/2020 07:13

That should be H goes to work, not walk!

France here. Second lockdown announced last night. Starts at midnight tonight.

Schools and factories will remain open - we'll get a bit more clarification later today.

You can only leave the house for work/caring duties/shopping/exercise but you need signed documentation to do so.

Last time around we couldn't go further than 1km from home to exercise and you could only do your shopping in your nearest supermarket. Only one person in a car (with limited exemptions). Again we are awaiting further clarification of the details later on today.

Tempting to go the hypermarket and Lidl today to stock up, but I suspect it will be rammed. Our nearest supermarket is OK.

These measures will last until at least the beginning of December.

user1471499545 · 29/10/2020 09:02

@ninninannonoonoo
That sounds pretty full on. I hope that the numbers start to fall quickly so you can get out and about again.

How does that work then?

@3littlewords

@3littlewords

You have to carry an "attestation" with you every time you leave the house. Back in March it was an actual, signed piece of paper but there is now an on-line version which you can show on your phone. Maybe I should have used "official" instead of signed. Anyone without a smartphone would still need an actual piece of paper and you need a new form for every time you go out (no writing in pencil and changing the date!!)

You need to complete all your personal details and include the time you filled in the form. You also need to carry ID. If you are out and about you can be asked for the form. Not having a valid one is an instant fine. Because the form has your address and the time you left home, it is easy for the police to work out whether you have gone further than you should e.g. our hypermarket is 12 miles away but our local supermarket is about 5. I would not have a reasonable excuse for doing my shopping 12 miles from home.

Last time the exercise restriction was 1km from home (same for dog walking) Not an option to drive 2 miles to the lake to have a run. Cycling for leisure was also not allowed.

We'll get a bit more clarification re the exact rules this evening.
It's a pain in the arse, but it is clear and unambiguous.

ninninannonoonoo · 29/10/2020 14:07

The announcement to clarify the new lockdown rules has been cancelled due to the terrible events in Nice.

PrivateD00r · 29/10/2020 14:32

I am in NI.

School were closed for an extra week before half term. Hopefully will reopen next week.

Pubs and restaurants are takeaway only.

Hairdressers etc are closed.

Leisure facilities closed, just gyms remain open.

The restrictions are to be reviewed today so hopefully we will find out later what the plan is!

cologne4711 · 29/10/2020 14:41

I'm in the south of England so tier one. DS is at a sixth form college which has had one case.

Working from home, meeting people to go for runs outside, wearing masks in shops. Going swimming once a week.

you could only do your shopping in your nearest supermarket

That must be really annoying if your nearest one is crap. Do they not go by size? We've got a couple of small Sainsburys in my town which are a bit like large corner shops but you wouldn't want to rely on them for all your provisions. It would be a pain for things like sanitary towels as they only sell about two kinds and if you need the big night-time ones - tough.

H1978 · 29/10/2020 14:46

Tier 2 in Yorkshire and rumours of moving us up to tier 3. Cases are definitely rising. Dd2 self isolating as she came into contact with a positive case and dh self isolating too as he had contact with another positive case.

This week I’ve heard of 3 people in my immediate area alone who have tested positive so I’m ready to move to tighter restrictions if need be. Although it’s really affected our travel business, I’m all for bringing the numbers down.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/10/2020 15:02

Derbyshire in tier 2 but right on the fringe of Nottinghamshire so we're likely headed for tier 3.

ninninannonoonoo · 29/10/2020 15:08

you could only do your shopping in your nearest supermarket

@cologne4711 We are lucky that our nearest one has most things you would need (we don't really have an equivalent to corner shops round these parts) but it is more expensive and has far less variety than the hypermarket 12 miles away. I usually do a lot of my shopping in Lidl, but the nearest ones are 12 or 15 miles away so that is probably a no-no.

The second nearest supermarket to us is the same chain as our local one but they are all franchised and it is utterly dire - grubby, chaotic and you have to check the sell by dates on absolutely everything. I count myself very lucky that it isn't our nearest!

VinceLime · 29/10/2020 15:23

Tier 2 in London. Cases in our borough are high and I expect we're heading for Tier 3 soon.

The restrictions don't affect us too much as a family. We have a preschooler who goes to nursery which is no different, except I drop her off outdoors wearing a mask. The staff don't wear masks inside the class. Not heard of any positive cases in her nursery. Lots of leisure activities are open for families, including toddler classes, swimming, museums, zoo, soft play, trampolining. DD has a full schedule, we're out of the house most of the day. We were at Butlins a few weeks ago, which was all very clean and socially distanced. We've booked 2 Santa Grottos and a family theatre show in December as Christmas treats, so I hope those can go ahead.

Only difference is that we're not seeing family much. We're allowed to meet up outdoors, but my family are more cautious than me, and they also don't like spending time outdoors in the cold.

newstart1234 · 29/10/2020 15:46

Scandinavia - face covering became mandatory today at indoor public spaces. Gatherings limited to 10 (not including children under 12) from today too. These will be in place until mid January. It’s good, it’s given clarity at least.

emmathedilemma · 29/10/2020 16:00

Central belt of Scotland, additional restrictions moving into scottish tier 3 next Monday:
Schools open
Pubs and restaurants closed until next Monday when they'll be able to open until 6pm but not serve alcohol (WTF?!?)
Cafes that don't serve alcohol open up to 6pm
Gym & swimming pools open
Gym and adult exercise classes cancelled (kids can still go ahead).
Adult outdoor organised non-contact sport is still on.
Essential public transport journeys only.
Requested to limit travel to within the health authority area which shrinks to Local authority area on Monday (apart from essential travel work, school etc)
No indoor mixing of households unless you are a single adult household and they are your support bubble / extended household / whatever the hell we're calling it.
Only allowed to meet one other household outside in groups up to 6 (doesn't include kids under 12).
No theatres, no indoor soft play type places, not sure if the cinema and things like bingo are still open?
Facemasks mandatory (over 5's) pretty much everywhere indoors except when exercising at the gym.
No spectators in sports matches.
Most people I know with office jobs are still working from home either all or the majority of the time.
No public events e.g. bonfire night, xmas markets etc.

It's about as shit as it gets unless you're in France or Ireland!

LindaEllen · 29/10/2020 16:20

We're UK tier 3 but from what I can see on social media and outside my front door, people aren't taking the restrictions very seriously.

Petitmum · 29/10/2020 16:34

I'm in south-west Wales, currently ina two-week lockdown. Cases in my area are rising very fast and I personally know of a few people who are infected. My son is in isolation due to his teacher testing positive. It all feels very real and scary right now. My parents live a few doors away and I worry about them getting it as my father (80) has so many health issues that he would be very unlikely to survive.

Trenisenne · 29/10/2020 17:10

Switzerland - French speaking part. No more than five adults in public or private, and number of kids must not exceed this five, curfew 11-6, amateur contact sports banned. Shops and restaurants still open though, and schools. Can still use swimming pools. University on line as of next week.

We only have four countries on a quarantine list and a few regions. But that's because the rate is so high here that it makes no sense to quarantine arrivals from other places.

40somethingJBJ · 29/10/2020 17:43

Tier 2 Derbyshire (Erewash), but really close to the Notts border so fully expecting tier 3 soon. Derby city plus done others are moving to tier 2 tomorrow night.

TheSeedsOfADream · 29/10/2020 18:34

South of Italy.
Schools all closed in our region from tomorrow. Seriously fucked off about this as schools are the safest places to be, with class sizes halved, SD, masks, temp checks and sanitising going on.
Mandatory mask wearing. Not allowed in shops etc without one. Masks in schools must be either surgical or the white beaky ones.
We have 68 active positive cases today (total) in a town of approx 60,000.
Mayor is thinking of a local lockdown which I think will happen.
