What are considerations for tier 2?

Is it over 100 in 100,000? My friend mentioned we might be near tier 2 and I don't know how she knows so trying to work it out!

Also and I'm sorry for being thick, but isn't tier 2 the same as tier 1 but no mixing in each other's houses? You could technically still meet up outside including in gardens?

What about inside at restaurants? Clearly baby brain has got to me. 😂

There is no official guide that is one of the key criticisms that of the system!

Qasd · 25/10/2020 19:00

But yes it’s no indoor mixing you can go to gardens and outside hospitality but not to a pub or a restaurant with friends.

IrkedEssex · 25/10/2020 19:02

Tier 2 is no mixing in any indoor setting, so no household visits and no restaurant meals with other households (unless it's for business).

Rule of 6 applies outdoors, including in private gardens.

There are no objective criteria to move tiers. If you have a money grabbing council they can just make the application and claim it's for your own good. In the case of Essex the government rolled over and allowed the tier 2 move. In the case of Oxfordshire the government did not roll over and so Oxfordshire remains in tier 1.

What counts as outside hospitality? 🤣 as in you can mix in pub garden but not pub inside?

We are 158 in 100,000 and still in Tier 1 with no sign of a move. It’s a pity these things aren’t more transparent but nothing is with this government.

BabyLlamaZen · 25/10/2020 19:06

So really confusing one here. My friend (who lives near me in tier 1) met up with a friend from another tier 1 area. They drove and met halfway in an area that is apparently tier 2 and sat in a pub garden together (distancing). Was that not allowed?

OP posts:
BabyLlamaZen · 25/10/2020 19:06

Today I just feel baffled!

OP posts:
Qasd · 25/10/2020 19:08

Yes exactly that. I go out once a week to a coffee shop with two friends and we sit outside we couldn’t sit inside though as it’s tier two..annoying because there are always lots of tables inside because half their customer groups cannot sit at them but those are the rules!

laughoutquiet · 25/10/2020 19:08

I can't believe the Bristol figures and the fact we are still in Tier 1. I think last count it was 260.

Qasd · 25/10/2020 19:08

Oh and we are 118 in tier two so as I said no logic!

BlackLambAndGreyFalcoln · 25/10/2020 19:10

We are about 70-80 in 100,000 and in tier 2! :( it's because we're in London and they've lumped all of London together.

BabyLlamaZen · 25/10/2020 19:11

Ok thanks for the clarification clarifying the confusing

No that's allowed. What wouldn't be allowed is for them to meet inside the pub in tier 2 (even if coming from tier 1).
MayFayre · 25/10/2020 19:13

314 per 100,000 here and Tier 1.

Polkadotties · 25/10/2020 19:13

My area in Essex is 87 per 100,000 and yet we are inT2 Angry

East Midlands

Danglingmod · 25/10/2020 19:16

It's crazy that there is no objective or published criteria.

We are much higher than London and Essex but still tier 1 (bordering both tier 2 and 3 areas as well). I think it's more to do with representation at regional/local level than science, tbh.

StealthPolarBear · 25/10/2020 19:17

So what's the difference between 2 and 3 then? It seems you can still meet outside, just not in a garden? How about a pub beer garden?

I think it’s because much of it is in the unis rather than the rest of the community. And still Bristol is better than other areas of the country (not saying we’re doing well but I think that’s why we’re in T1 still)

Back in sept it was 1.5k infected since March. Right now 5k Sad

MercyBooth · 25/10/2020 19:21

Im in Essex and we were put in Tier 2 at the stage my town was 41 cases per 100"000

A LOT of us think this was financially motivated.

knittingaddict · 25/10/2020 19:23

Uni cities are always going to look worse because it isn't necessarily infecting the wider population yet. The number of students who test positive distorts the figures for a while, but it's only a matter of time.

MercyBooth · 25/10/2020 19:23

@IrkedEssex posted before i saw your post.

Tier 3 you cannot mix in a pub beer garden or in restaurant/cafe outdoor seating or in private gardens (all allowed in tier 2). Parks are Ok for househild mixing in tier 3 (subject to the rule of 6 and distancing from those not in your household or support bubble). In tier 3 pubs have to close unless they serve "substantial meals" and people have to order a meal (they cannot visit just for a drink). Tier 2 all hospitality can stay open, just limited to 1 household/support bubble seating inside.
StealthPolarBear · 25/10/2020 19:33

Right so at t2 at the moment we can meet in gardens. In t3, which is where I think we'll be next week, it'll have to be the park.
Damn
