What are considerations for tier 2?

BabyLlamaZen · 25/10/2020 18:58

Is it over 100 in 100,000? My friend mentioned we might be near tier 2 and I don't know how she knows so trying to work it out!

Also and I'm sorry for being thick, but isn't tier 2 the same as tier 1 but no mixing in each other's houses? You could technically still meet up outside including in gardens?

What about inside at restaurants? Clearly baby brain has got to me. 😂

I think they look at hospital admissions/ deaths/ ages affected.Agree it could be more transparent. We’re well over 100 cases here per 100,000 but still tier 1 and no signs of moving.

Turtleshelly · 25/10/2020 19:43

I think they consider the capacity in local hospitals as well as the number per 100,000.

For some reason it’s been observed that areas with Labour MPs seem to get moved up a tier quicker than those with a Tory MP too.

Some NW areas went into tier 2 style restrictions with about 20 per 100,000. But now areas can have 300 per 100,000 and be in tier 1.

There’s no benchmark or plan. They don’t have a clue.

MayFayre · 25/10/2020 19:59

I think it must be political. We are in a marginal seat with a Conservative MP.

Polkadotties · 25/10/2020 20:01

It’s political. Essex is solid blue. Essex county council have always cosied up to a Tory central government.

EasterIssland · 25/10/2020 20:08

Bristol (260) is labour council

Ginogineli · 25/10/2020 20:09

It depends on your local leaders as gov have said they want it to be agreed - Lancashire and Liverpool basically asked for restrictions whereasanchesters were held off

Liverpool went into what was a tier 2 at about 250/100000 but hospitals were very busy even then

It’s capacity more than anything - plus how many are symptomatic

Some student areas may have high numbers but affect mainly young so not causing admission rises

Ecosse · 25/10/2020 23:50

It’s not just case numbers- they will look at the overall trend, cases in over 65s and hospital capacity as well.

SeekingAnswers3 · 26/10/2020 00:47

It can’t be 100 in 100,000 as My area is currently at 146 in 100,000 and we are tier one

SeekingAnswers3 · 26/10/2020 00:51

In case anyone is trying to find any trends we have a Uni and are unfortunately a marginal seat with a few Tory MPs

knittingaddict · 26/10/2020 08:39

The 100 per 100,000 was mentioned in the press, including the BBC. I don't know if was ever seriously considered by the Government, but I think it makes some sense to look at where in the population the infections are. Unfortunately that still leaves members of the public not being sure about what is happening and able to plan accordingly.

knittingaddict · 26/10/2020 08:43

Yes Bristol is Labour.

We are Lib Dem, university city, over 125 per 100,000 and tier 1.

Thirtyrock39 · 26/10/2020 08:45

I'm east mids tier one but our numbers are really high though mainly in young people so possibly not impacting nhs yet? I actually want them to say no indoor mixing as I'm quite worried about how many cases I'm hearing about

knittingaddict · 26/10/2020 10:08

It does worry me a bit that we know numbers are high and are likely to spread further, but don't act until it's clear that numbers may to too high for an area to cope. With the potential 2 week lag between cases and hospitalisation, that sounds risky to me.

Thirtyrock39 · 28/10/2020 10:36

Just seen in local newspaper website my area likely to move to tier 2 by end of week
We are highest numbers in the county so crazy not to be

SlipperyLizard · 28/10/2020 10:46

The lack of objective criteria is how we’ve got large swathes of the North in stricter measures while other areas aren’t. Greater Manchester went into stricter measures (no meeting in homes or gardens) back in August at c 75/80 cases per 100000 in my borough. There are now areas with cases at twice that rate (like where my sister lives) that are still in Tier 1! My niece went for a sleepover recently, while my kids haven’t even been able to have a friend to play since early summer.

It really is scandalous treatment of the North.

MadisonAvenue · 28/10/2020 11:04

@Thirtyrock39 I’m wondering if you’re near me. We’re apparently moving into Tier 2 by or at the weekend and the local radio station said this morning that our numbers in our district are higher than anywhere else in the county.

MercyBooth · 28/10/2020 21:21

Questions being asked about why we are in tier 2

Essex Covid: The Essex town in a Tier 2 lockdown despite being in lowest 5% for infection rates
The infection rate for every Essex town has been revealed according to the latest government data.
One Essex town sits in the bottom five percent of English local authorities for infection rates - but remains under Tier Two restrcitions.

Braintree currently sits in the bottom 20 local authorities for infection rates in the whole of the country.

The data released by the government shows the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 in every local authority area in England.

The figures, which look at the seven days up to October 23, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.

While Blackburn with Darwen has the highest rate in England, with 1,176 new cases recorded in seven days, Braintree has only recorded 78 cases in the same period.

Braintree's infection rate has been recorded as 51.1 cases per 100,000, making it one of the towns with the lowest infection rates across England.

On the other end of the spectrum, the local authority of Thurrock has recorded the highest number of new cases in the county over the same seven days, with 287 people testing positive - the equivalent of 164.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Brentwood just tips Thurrock in terms of the highest rate of infection with 170.1 cases of coronavirus every 100,000 people.

While areas like Thurrock remain in Tier One, Braintree is under Tier Two restrictions as it sits in the Essex County Council region

The list of cases and infection rates for every Essex town are listed below.

From left to right, it reads the name of local authority, the rate of new cases in the seven days to October 23, number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 23, the rate of new cases in the seven days to October 16 and number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 16.

Braintree - 51.1 (78), 56.4 (86)

Brentwood - 170.1 (131), 92.2 (71)

Basildon - 148.5 (278), 106.3 (199)

Castle Point - 139.4 (126), 97.4 (88)

Chelmsford - 108.2 (193), 72.9 (130)

Colchester - 122.2 (238), 100.2 (195)

Epping Forest - 135.9 (179), 94.2 (124)

Harlow - 85.0 (74), 68.9 (60)

Maldon - 64.7 (42), 52.4 (34)

SeekingAnswers3 · 28/10/2020 23:54

176 in 100,000 and still in tier one

SeekingAnswers3 · 28/10/2020 23:55

My bad 172

EasterIssland · 29/10/2020 08:13

Bristol 350 now. And we’re in tier 1 plus Hmm

laughoutquiet · 29/10/2020 08:18

@EasterIssland tier one plus ...which doesn't seem to actually mean anything Confused

EasterIssland · 29/10/2020 08:19

Yeah. Apparently more Marshall’s in town. And investment in t&t.

Ponoka7 · 29/10/2020 08:32

Here in Liverpool we were told it was because of hospital capacity. We were supposed to get a new hospital, but because of corruption it fell through, which put us in a precarious position. We are now cancelling routine surgery and most appointments are now telephone appointments. We've had some tragic cases of people dying waiting for ambulances, because we really struggle at times. Taxis quite rightly won't take people with Covid symptoms.

From what I saw Wales also considered hospital capacity. Banning visitors was also about not having any additional accidents etc to have to deal with.

KylieSmilie · 29/10/2020 08:32

We are going g into three this week (Nottinghamshire) but half of my suburb is in Derbyshire and it in in tier one. Half of the secondary school my dc go to is one and half is three. 🤯
