Pizza Slice Risk Dealt With

A bar/restaurant in Manchester has been visited by the authorities and told it can no longer serve 22" pizza by the slice because it's not "substantial". They can continue to serve full 14" and 22" pizzas though.

Thank God this horrendous and dangerous breach of the rules has been sorted for the good of public safety.

I mean, I’m suspicious of only one slice of pizza anyway... 🤣

OliveTree75 · 24/10/2020 12:23

Thank god we dodged that bullet

emmathedilemma · 24/10/2020 12:25

Meanwhile the government is advising people to loose weight to reduce the risks of covid.....

Asterion · 24/10/2020 12:27

I assume you mean that they can only stay open if they serve whole pizzas, not slices? A whole pizza being a "substantial meal".

PetitFours · 24/10/2020 12:32

Yes.

Google reckons that single slice could be 531 kcal. No wonder there's an obesity epidemic.

I was thinking that. Five pints and a 22" pepperoni isn't going to do much for the poundage is it.
SmileEachDay · 24/10/2020 12:39

Bloody hell lljkk is that pizza actually solid cheese? They’re normally between 200 and 300 a slice!!

WitchesSpelleas · 24/10/2020 12:41

Not the rationale behind the government's decision, but the more a pizza has been messed about with between cooking and reaching your plate, the more chance it's been contaminated. I wouldn't trust pizza slices at the moment.

serialreturner · 24/10/2020 12:43

I eat like a bird.

1 slice is more than enough for me.

ChaChaCha2012 · 24/10/2020 12:45

Here's the bar in question, their pizza looks amazing!

@SmileEachDay You might have missed that it's from a 22 inch pizza. It is a meal in itself.

WitchesSpelleas · 24/10/2020 12:46

Ooh, no, I have to have a whole pizza. With extra garlic bread and a chocolate brownie afterwards.

SmileEachDay · 24/10/2020 12:47

ChaChaCha2012

OMG!!!

That is actually insane 😂😂

Spam88 · 24/10/2020 12:54

Have you seen the picture of a slice on their Twitter? It's the size of my torso 😂 this is my favourite covid story of the day, and that's despite living in wales where supermarket shelves are currently being cling filmed.

I thought you couldn't catch covid from food
QueenPaws · 24/10/2020 13:01

Pub local to me has been told they can't do free food. So he's charging 1p

PurpleDaisies · 24/10/2020 13:01

They need to serve it with a salad on the side. That would count as a substantial meal.

If a Cornish pasty with a salad counts, it’s crazy that a slice of 22” pizza doesn’t.

everythingisginandroses · 24/10/2020 13:01

I don't think that's a thing either, @OliveTree75 Confused

PhilCornwall1 · 24/10/2020 13:03

A pasty with a salad is all kinds of wrong!! A pasty on its own is a substantial meal.

A pack of sandwiches from a shop are often similar. People rarely blame them for the obesity epidemic.

The risk is small, but it's there. If the food has gone straight from the oven to your plate, fine, but if someone has been handling it after it's cooked there is a risk of contamination.

PurpleDaisies · 24/10/2020 13:04

Absolutely agree about the salad. Pasties should be served with baked beans.

SmileEachDay · 24/10/2020 13:08

You are incorrect. It’s is delicious, especially when also served with pickled cabbage.

I can see the "logic", even if it's not logical Grin

It's a bar that is doing a collaboration with a pizza company so that they can redefine themselves as a "restaurant". That's great that the bar are being creative but I can see that the concern is that they don't want people going to bars and behaving like they are in a bar (sitting drinking for hours on end) but getting round the rules by buying the smallest, cheapest option on the menu that they have no itention of eating to pretend they are having a meal in a restaurant. I used to go to a cafe/bar when I was a teenager that served underage drinkers by selling bowls of cornflakes as a meal for 25p so 16 year olds could buy a beer (or 10).

I'm not suggesting that that was the bar's intention but I can understand that that is what the police are trying to stop. There are no prices on the menu but I would guess that it is not so much the size of the pizza slice that is too small to make it qualify as a substantial meal, it is the price that is too small.

lockeddownandcrazy · 24/10/2020 13:27

What is substantial to one person is a snack to another - how can they define this. Mind you for Boris its probably substantial if its four courses with posh glasses and too much cutlery followed by brandy in the study....OK Yar
