Pizza Slice Risk Dealt With

A bar/restaurant in Manchester has been visited by the authorities and told it can no longer serve 22" pizza by the slice because it's not "substantial". They can continue to serve full 14" and 22" pizzas though.

Thank God this horrendous and dangerous breach of the rules has been sorted for the good of public safety.

@lockeddownandcrazy

What is substantial to one person is a snack to another - how can they define this. Mind you for Boris its probably substantial if its four courses with posh glasses and too much cutlery followed by brandy in the study....OK Yar
And don’t forget subsidised by the tax payer.
PhilCornwall1 · 24/10/2020 13:45

@PurpleDaisies

A pasty with a salad is all kinds of wrong!! A pasty on its own is a substantial meal.

Absolutely agree about the salad. Pasties should be served with baked beans.

😧😧 No!!!!!!!

You are incorrect. It’s is delicious, especially when also served with pickled cabbage.

How to kill a good meal 😩😩

Have you tried pickled cabbage with pasty? Or pie? Or stew?

No?

You are missing out, my friend, you are missing out.....

OpheliasCrayon · 24/10/2020 13:48

I think my brain has finally taken the last step to fully imploded at the lunacy of this entire situation. What?!

Keratinsmooth · 24/10/2020 14:02

I totally understand the rationale, during lockdown a local pub starting selling a portion of chips so that they could legally sell take away booze.

cathyandclare · 24/10/2020 14:03

Laughed my head off when I saw the picture of this insubstantial meal on Twitter.

@WitchesSpelleas

I thought you couldn't catch covid from food

The risk is small, but it's there. If the food has gone straight from the oven to your plate, fine, but if someone has been handling it after it's cooked there is a risk of contamination.

No you cant. That is just untrue.

I've had it with a pie yes, I just can't kill a pasty in that way. Smile

You know that a pasty is just a pushed over pie, right?

murmurgam · 24/10/2020 14:15

I thought this was going to be about Dominos using Covid as an excuse for no longer doing gluten free pizza.

I thought pasties were specifically invented as a complete midday meal for manual workers? Afaik Cornish miners didn't take a box of salad down the pit with them.Confused

Spodge · 24/10/2020 14:55

Oh well, at least it's not in Wales where food will probably be declared as non-essential soon.

IcedPurple · 24/10/2020 15:03

The chance of catching Covid from cooked food is miniscule.

WitchesSpelleas · 24/10/2020 15:06

No you cant. That is just untrue

Yes, you can. It is not untrue. The food standards agency says -

"The risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) cross-contamination to food and food packaging is very low. Food businesses must ensure that they have the correct food hygiene and food safety processes in place and that these are being followed to protect their customers."

A 'very low' risk is not the same as 'no risk'.

user1495884620 · 24/10/2020 15:07

That twitter picture is a bit reverse Father Ted though. This pizza is big, this pizza is very near!

WitchesSpelleas · 24/10/2020 15:31

It's a well known optical illusion.

This Guardian link explains it but, warning for the squeamish, it includes a picture of a dead rat.

GabriellaMontez · 24/10/2020 17:30

The only way anyone ever caught covid from a pizza, is if the delivery driver sneezed in their face.

lljkk · 24/10/2020 17:33

Don't think is simply an optical illusion... 22" diameter pizza means 11" radius = length from point to crust. That's a big single slice of pizza by most standards.
