Pubs offering WFH

I've seen a couple of local pubs advertising working from home on weekdays.

It seems £10 a day is the going rate for 6 hours with WiFi, free tea/coffee & lunch.

Seems a good deal if I want to get away from DH for a day Grin

I’ve just seen this somewhere near me and I LOVE the idea of it. Currently pondering whether I’d go jacket potato with prawns or fish finger sandwich...

FromTheAshes · 20/10/2020 21:25

These pubs honestly have no idea how much coffee I drink during the working day 🤣

NoGoodPunsLeft · 20/10/2020 21:25

I want the fish finger sandwich Grin

I just hope that chair is more comfortable than my dining chairs

I know I’m ruining the fun, but doesn’t this defeat the point of working from home? As we’re asked to work from home if possible to stop the spread of this bloody virus, so sitting in a public place isn’t in the spirit?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be all over this it was near me! A change of scenery would be fab.

pinkbowl · 20/10/2020 21:27

Brilliant idea 💡

NoGoodPunsLeft · 20/10/2020 21:27

I just think it's such a good idea, no mixing of households, presumably weekdays are generally quiet so bringing in customers who wouldn't normally be there.

If someone sits in a pub for 6 hours in the same spot and are socially distanced with other appropriate measures then they are less of a risk than different people going in and out of the pub every 2 hours.

I know what you mean, but presumably it would only be individuals, week days would be the quietest time so it's not going to be packed.

I don't understand either. It's other people we are avoiding, not offices.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 20/10/2020 21:30

Maybe not much of a commute too, perhaps a short walk rather than long public transport journey.

My office is a lot busier than a quiet country-ish pub on a Tuesday afternoon

£10 a day seems fairly cheap for what you get

I can sort of see this being popular if not for COVID, people used to spend hours sitting at coffee shops and getting work done (mainly students) and this would just legitimatise it.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 20/10/2020 21:38

its a great idea

Thanksitsgotpockets · 20/10/2020 21:44

Pubs must be struggling in tier 2 areas as people will not use them as a household midweek and purely can't meet up.
Costa near me is reliably empty as it would usually be groups of friends meeting up to catch up and I imagine this is reflected in most other cafés.
Setting them up as a co-working environment is worth a try.

BigFatLiar · 20/10/2020 21:49

Covid or not it sounds good. There used to be people complaining about people in coffee shops hogging space with their laptops for work at least this would be an open way of doing it.

FractionalGains · 20/10/2020 21:51

What tier is that in? If it’s 2 or 3 fair play to them, they’re fighting to survive and I think It’s a clever idea.

If it’s tier 1 where people can still mix indoors it’s a bit random!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 20/10/2020 21:54

Am trying to talk the landlord of my local into this. Beats being stuck in the corner of my bedroom!

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 20/10/2020 22:00

I've seen a pub a few miles away from me doing this & I think it's incredibly inventive. Sadly I would have to drive past my ridiculously covid secure office to get there I can't justify it but I hope it gives them a new revenue stream.

3littlewords · 20/10/2020 22:08

I think its a great idea, wfh I struggled with the same surroundings every day and not leaving the house and seeing another human that i didnt live with a few hours working in a safe environment away from the house would have been a massive boost to my mental health. It wouldn't work for everyone but its a great way for pubs/cafes to gain revenue in these unpredictable times.

LizzieMacQueen · 20/10/2020 22:32

Do you think you could get a cold glass of pinot grigio with that fish finger sandwich? I'd sign up for that. Might not get much work done mind you.

Allywill · 20/10/2020 23:09

Can you still wear your pjs though?

Youngatheart00 · 20/10/2020 23:12

I think it’s a good idea in theory, on the basis numbers are limited and tables are distanced. Wouldn’t really work for me due to the number of calls and zooms I have, but if it was a day dealing with emails and / or pulling together a presentation, a change of scenery would be nice. Although I’d also be tempted by a cold glass of wine (or 3!) in the afternoon!!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/10/2020 05:43

I saw this at a local pub near me. Looks great. I'm jealous as I can't WFH in my job and I'd love to sit in the pub all day! Grin

NoGoodPunsLeft · 21/10/2020 06:01

@Allywill

Can you still wear your pjs though?
Might be frowned upon unfortunately 🤣
