Pubs offering WFH

I've seen a couple of local pubs advertising working from home on weekdays.

It seems £10 a day is the going rate for 6 hours with WiFi, free tea/coffee & lunch.

Seems a good deal if I want to get away from DH for a day Grin

What do you do if you need the loo? I would be worried about someone nicking my laptop or other stuff!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 21/10/2020 12:41

Never thought of that @HilaryBriss, good point!

I caught Cv19 in the pub. I was there about 2.5 hours. The way track and trace works is that they don't ask if you know here you got it. So any figures claiming that transmission in pubs is low are just bollocks. 3 of us got it on 1 visit- I bet it is recorded as family transmission- it wasn't. I actually called the pub to tell them as I know some of their staff are vulnerable- that was the first that they were aware.

Why go and work from a pub, that increases your risk as opposed to working from home.

CovidClara · 21/10/2020 13:55

We are tier 1.

I like the idea and a creative one for struggling pubs but I think it could be like the quiet carriage on a train with someone having constant unbearably loud zoom meetings if they didn’t have a rule against it

MrsFogi · 21/10/2020 14:03

Hotels are also offering rooms for a few hours during the day (a lot more expensive though but one with a Spa would be nice Grin).

DameCelia · 21/10/2020 14:06

@MrsFogi are you sure they're offering rooms by the hour for working?Wink

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2020 14:23

Our local is doing this !
Good idea , brings in a bit of revenue and let's people go out to work in a safe environment.
Brilliant idea.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/10/2020 14:24

@CovidClara I've been to pubs and restaurants about once a week since they reopened and I haven't caught Covid. It's luck of the draw, individuals can make their own decisions. I feel safe in pubs.

And I have been weekly,, been to 6 countries and stayed in 17 different hotels. Non of that is relevant

Going to the pub to work would be much higher risk that going for a drink or a meal risk as you are there with the same people for a long time.

Why do you think it is safe? It is higher risk than an office as the people are strangers and always changing.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/10/2020 14:31

As I said, it's up to the individual to make their own risk assessment.

MaudesMum · 21/10/2020 14:51

Any activity you do beyond sitting at home all day every day is going to increase your risk, isn't it? So, it's up to an individual to assess their risk of doing anything at all. And its presumably rather less risky to sit by yourself in the daytime when the pub isn't full, compared to being with a group of friends in the evening, when drink might have been taken? I might well look out for something like this near me, as the thought of a long winter of WFH by myself is slightly doing my head in.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2020 15:09

Our local pub has different rooms and they already zone out the areas and they are very hot on being covid safe and continuous cleaning.
I noticed they are offering this service and thought it was a good idea as I know they will do it well.

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/10/2020 15:12

I've seen this too. I'm quiet tempted to be honest.

Northernlass99 · 22/10/2020 09:12

My office closed completely and moved all 800 staff to home working. New office opening in February possibly.

I think the pub desk is a great idea but DH already goes to a co-working space and he said the biggest problem is the dicks talking super loudly into their phone like they are the CEO of a blue chip company, or doing zoom without headphones. If desks are far enough apart to make this not a problem I'd probably do it once a week. I am in tier 1 and numbers are low here.

This made me laugh, like the good old days when I used to travel to London regularly and there was always some dick talking into his phone loudly all the way there like he was the most important person on the planet!
