I may "flock" to the SW as my mother lives there. It wouldn't be my choice for a late October holiday* and I doubt I am on my own in that regard!

*although a few years ago it was 21 degrees in October half term. It didn't go with it getting dark at 5.30 as the clocks had gone back!

Wotrewelookinat · 21/10/2020 11:25

Well judging by the caravans and motorhomes on the A12 in the past few days, there’s a high degree of flocking to coastal Suffolk where I live....not that visitors to Aldeburgh, Southwold etc have ever really stopped, even in lockdown...

Cases currently rising in Bath and Bristol
I'm in Wiltshire where cases are rising even though county is more rural

Orangeblossom7777 · 21/10/2020 14:42

I think most of the cases (in Bath anyway) seem to be linked to the 2 universities.

I'm in a Devon seaside town, honestly don't waste your money, I don't mind you coming but it is grey, raining, miserable and what will you do? It isn't beach weather, lots of stuff shut and do you want to be crammed inside somewhere.

CountessFrog · 21/10/2020 17:05

I’m heading to Cornwall on Saturday. We go every October.

CountessFrog · 21/10/2020 17:07

Two legs, give me your order. I’ll meet you outside Pengenna Pasties with a bag.

I’ll be in full PPE.

alreadytaken · 21/10/2020 17:14

Certainly thinking about it - change of scene would be good. My area is pretty good so you neednt get the pitchforks out yet.

🤣

Stoke?

If so, please bring 20 wrights pies (meat and potato) a dozen oatcakes, and something from Rawr in Hanley 🤣

Forgetmenot157 · 22/10/2020 12:24

The south west in not doing things better.. We have 5 major cites.. Bristol, Bath, Exeter, plymouth and Truro... That's across a huge space of land.... Compared to the rest of the country where to get to The next city it can be but a few miles down the motorway!

Forgetmenot157 · 22/10/2020 12:27

@ColonSemiColon

Deaths are actually higher in the south west than the north east, so I won’t bother flocking thanks.
Probably due to the large elderly population down here.
CountessFrog · 22/10/2020 13:08

Aw two legs, not Stoke. But I can bottle some Stoke air as we drive past J15 for you x

ancientgran · 22/10/2020 14:21

Are deaths higher in the SW than the NE. On the govt dashboard it says
SW 1952 (within 28 days) 2928 (on death cert)
NE 2429 (within 28 days) 2954 (on death cert)

Or is it higher as a percentage of population? I'm not sure how population compares.

Lindy2 · 22/10/2020 14:24

I love Cornwall. We went there this summer like we do every year. Most people were mask wearing, social distancing etc but not everyone. (The landlady of a pub hugging her regulars as they came in didn't really seem to be grasping what the 2m actually is for!)

The precautions were pretty much the same as where I live in the SE but we have higher rates - but not too bad. Another area close to me generally seems to have pretty good compliance for precautions and distancing but their cases are taking off alarmingly.

I'm really struggling to understand why some areas are differing so much.

TheySeeHerRowling · 22/10/2020 14:33

It's a beautiful day in my SW-ish resort town and there are lots of people on the beach - and even in the sea Shock - of whom, I presume, very few are local as our half term hasn't started yet

All behaving sensibly, much social distancing and mask wearing - highly preferable to some of our summer visitors, boozing on the quayside in massive groups (and, in one case, falling into the harbour and dying Sad)
