I'm in Bournemouth which counts as South West and our cases per 100,000 are worse than many London boroughs

There is actually a lot of bad feeling around down here - I was in supermarket earlier and checkout lady bemoaning all the influx of visitors buying up loads of booze 🤪

shitonitbambinos · 20/10/2020 20:39

My local hospital in the SW has declared a major incident as the covid numbers are so high in the hospital is affecting care for all.

I wouldn't come down here and assume it's normal.

I guess this is the place to be?

I’m a covididiot 😳

We’re (hopefully) down SW for the week pending no cases in DD’s school.

We are self catering in a nice place, and intend on doing naff all for the week other than relax and eat takeaways.

It’s been booked for ages and we don’t want to cancel. We’re not in a high risk area so can travel and it’s a change of scenery to where we are. A few wet and windy walks will make it a typical British holiday that we all actually need right now.

Stressedspaniel · 20/10/2020 22:26

Come and visit but please don’t snap up any houses whilst you’re down Grin Prices in my area have increased by 40-60,000 in the last couple of months. The estate agents are explaining this simply as “People from London”. 🙈

Torvean32 · 21/10/2020 02:12

It's the equivelant of the central belt (Scotland) flocking to the North East in our circuit break.
Should have travel bans in place to stop it.

StarCat2020 · 21/10/2020 02:47

People in the SW must be doing something right
Yes, people in the countryside are being very good by not crowding together.

When you look at the figures in the large towns and cities all of a sudden the SW doesn't look so good

StarCat2020 · 21/10/2020 02:48

Just to be clear, I was being sarcastic above.

Cases in SW are low because of the low population density (=not crowding together)

StarCat2020 · 21/10/2020 02:51

Me too

Flossie44 · 21/10/2020 08:19

When I asked the question..it was in interest. I actually LIVE in Cornwall myself!!
I was merely interested if we will now be inundated with visitors due to our figures

The people who are prepared to travel either need to visit friends and relatives despite the virus, or are completely unconcerned about virus levels other than in the context of restrictions it will impose on them. People will not be choosing areas to visit to get away from it.

Really??

During the summer, it was heard often down here that visitors were here to ‘get away from it’ and ‘wanted to relax away from Covid’. It was often reported in local news that hospitality were faced with such arguments from visitors

Really - don't bother it is bucketing down today

WitsEnding · 21/10/2020 10:32

I occasionally do a day trip to Cornwall at this time of year to remind me why I left and pre-empt any thoughts of return. Not necessary in this weather, though.

Jojoanna · 21/10/2020 10:36

Okay nobody go to Cornwall ever again 🙄

Flossie44 · 21/10/2020 10:47

Tad dramatic?!

Maybe remind yourself that we are in a pandemic??

It's pissing it down in St Ives

If anyone is coming from the north, please drop off oatcakes and Wrights Pies

RhubarbTea · 21/10/2020 10:51

Yeah it's pissing it down here in Cornwall right now.

We also only have one A&E. One. For the whole county, full of elderly people.

Movinghouseatlast · 21/10/2020 10:57

On our local South West news they were saying that all the fears about tourists ,"bringing" Covid to Cornwall were unfounded.
.in our very touristy village there was a lot of fear around tourists coming back, but despite being rammed with tourists still this hasn't actually translated to a surge in cases amongst the local population.

Covid rules are being followed to the absolute letter though in all the shops and restaurants.

Movinghouseatlast · 21/10/2020 10:59

@Flossie44 we are already inundated and have been since July.

Orangeblossom7777 · 21/10/2020 11:01

Well over 100 per 100,000 here now in Bath and Bristol.

Flossie44 · 21/10/2020 11:01

I know Movinghouseatlast. It’s hideous down here. I too worry about our poor small hospital

OP posts:
Pulloutbed · 21/10/2020 11:02

With the amount of waterproof clothing people will have to wear it will be equivalent to full PPE!
Come on down if you want, just spend a fuck ton of money and keep our local business going! Cheers.

ColonSemiColon · 21/10/2020 11:13

Deaths are actually higher in the south west than the north east, so I won’t bother flocking thanks.
