The south should be demanding a lockdown now

Why wait, our rates are growing exponentially, a short lockdown now could bring rates down. Why wait until we are as fucked over as Manchester.

ODFOD

clopper · 20/10/2020 17:19

Noooo

Itisasecret · 20/10/2020 17:20

No thanks. It will continue to rise exponentially all the time schools are open as normal. Let’s not screw over everyone’s income down here too.

Racoonworld · 20/10/2020 17:21

No. The way things are going I think it’s inevitable we will go into lockdown at some point over winter. I want that to be delayed as much as possible!

herecomesthsun · 20/10/2020 17:22

I think they will wait till people are more scared by the worsening figures and more ready to accept stricter measures. That was what they did last time. Probably not the best way to tackle it, from the POV of a firebreak, but there's a pragmatism to that.

EvilPea · 20/10/2020 17:22

Or we could just be sensible and take responsibility for ourselves by risk assessing the worth in all that we do?

Sure you're alright Jack.

Far too sensible for a thread like this!
yawnsvillex · 20/10/2020 17:23

Nah you're fine

Port1aCastis · 20/10/2020 17:24

No thanks

StatisticalSense · 20/10/2020 17:26

Because it doesn't work that way. Unless you do it repeatedly it will have no long term effect on the infection rate but will financially cripple businesses, cause mass redundancies and generally fuck up the economy.

midgebabe · 20/10/2020 17:27

Yes, if the rates keep going up sooner or later severe restrictions will come

Option 1 every one takes personal responsibility,,,,well that's not working well is it?
Option 2 hope the government gets on top of test trace and isolate ....well that isn't working
Option 3 short sharp restrictions now, possibly repeating every so often over the next 6 months
Option 4 much harder longer restrictions later, not repeating, just going on till spring

jakor · 20/10/2020 17:28

🙄

Piixxiiee · 20/10/2020 17:28

I think mid November for school closure down here... although a local secondary just shut yesterday for 2 weeks....

Ducksurprise · 20/10/2020 17:29

Exactly midgebabe 1 & 2 would be much better but as they are evidently unattainable I'd rather 3 than 4.

No thank you

glitterelf · 20/10/2020 17:30

There are other options like removing the fines and supporting those who can keep children home to remote learn. Just look at all the known cases in schools and the shoddy contact tracing. The longer we do nothing the quicker we can say goodbye to Christmas.
It's all good and well shouting no to lockdowns but what is the answer then ? Just look at today's figures.

MajesticWhine · 20/10/2020 17:30

No thanks.

PicsInRed · 20/10/2020 17:31

What? Fuck off with that.

There is fuck all COVID here, a lot of opposition to lockdown, and there actually aren't enough police to enforce it. I'm out.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/10/2020 17:33

Infection rates have been dropping in my area so no, I won't be screaming for a bloody lockdown!

Cocothefirst · 20/10/2020 17:34

Let's not.

When you say they south, where exactly? There's fuck all cases of it dow here, so there is no point in it.
VanCleefArpels · 20/10/2020 17:38

Don’t be ridiculous. My Borough has fewer than 20 new positive tests out of a population of many tens of thousands. There are a handful of people in hospital. Nationally the TOTAL number of deaths from ALL causes is currently less than by this week last year. We need to keep this in proportion
