How "exposed" are you?

It's just occurred to me that as a family we are incredibly exposed.

5yo and 7yo are in different bubbles of 120 kids per bubble and 2yo goes to nursery (no official bubble but there are 25 kids in her room when she attends). We also do weekly physio for the 2yo (its a group session so exposure to another 6 people) plus weekly swimming lessons (people are socially distanced but there are still a good 30 people in a poorly ventilated area)

My MIL provides childcare a few days a week (so more exposure there) and I've just had the sudden death of my mother and her funeral to deal with so I've been mixing households with my dad and siblings. We can cut back on this now we've had the funeral but I want to be around my family whilst we grieve and come to terms with our loss.

I know I am probably nowhere near as exposed as some but writing it down, I feel very scared.

(I'm tier 2, a London Borough that has 106 per 100k but relatively low death rates!)

Dh, v low exposure. He can work from home, rarely goes into shops.

I'm quite exposed. I work on a large busy site, stuffy office, no window ever open! About 25 people in it.
Dc one bubble is about 200,the other about 70?

Of course within those bubbles there is lots of crossing.

Main shop is delivered.

Toebarb · 20/10/2020 20:47

DH - low exposure (wfh)
DC1 - secondary school, bubble of 120, travels on bus
DC2 - ditto
DC3 - primary school, bubble of 30
Me - wfh most days, go into work (by car) one day a week and contact with 25-30 people

Plus some social life (not much Sad )

So overall pretty high I'd say.

Heatherjayne1972 · 20/10/2020 20:53

Yeah we’re quite exposed here
Two separate schools here - one primary one secondary
Other child has retail job coming into contact with the general public
I am in one of the riskiest industries I had 15 strangers literally 6 inches from my face yesterday 11 today Probably 8 or 9 tomorrow

Fun times

ceeveebee · 20/10/2020 21:02

Relatively unexposed
2 DC at primary with bubbles of 30
Their out of school clubs mostly outside, except dance which is very socially distanced and in a well ventilated room
DH and I both wfh, get shopping delivered, only see their grandparents who are our childcare bubble

MadameMinimes · 20/10/2020 21:04

I’m a secondary school senior leader. Lots of exposure there because I do a large number of duties in lunch rooms, corridors, supervising the sixth form study rooms etc. in addition to contact with the kids that I actually teach. I also don’t drive and so get public transport to school every day. Overall my exposure is high. DP also gets public transport and works as a self employed contractor visiting lots of different businesses by public transport, so high too. We aren’t seeing family because we both have vulnerable parents and other vulnerable family members who are WFH or on long-term sick leave so far less exposed than us. It makes sense for us to keep away.

Sunshine1235 · 20/10/2020 21:07

We aren’t very exposed, I’m a stay at home mum and my children don’t go to pre school or anything. We meet with a few families at the park and my DH mostly works from home or with one other colleague. I guess it’s safer but it’s also pretty lonely

hedgehogger1 · 20/10/2020 21:10

I'm in a tier 1 area with 125.6/100k. Kids both in a bubble of 30. Their cousin who comes back to my house after school is in another bubble. Their other cousin who also comes here is in preschool. I teach in a secondary school in 6 different bubbles each with approx 300 kids....

hedgehogger1 · 20/10/2020 21:13

Oh and I have bus duty once a week where I have to get on the bus with over 50 kids and check each one has their seatbelt and mask on (which many will remove as soon as I get off the bus)

Bwlch · 20/10/2020 21:19

Both DH and I teach at a university (face-to-face) so we are probably quite exposed.

I don't really give it a second thought.

walksen · 20/10/2020 21:22

In a tier 3 area. Teach between 100 and 150 kids a day. Have to move with them in corridors between lessons and greet them at the door. We have been given visors though and kids wear masks in the corridors

At the moment between 20 to 30 % of staff have been off for the last 2 weeks. At least 2 cases for kids per day this week and similar last week meaning one whole year group has been sent home and kids missing from almost every year group. Half my dept tested positive last week. Some core subjects down to only 2 staff!

This is with us spending lunch with kids and break also if it rains. Barely speak to my colleagues outside of staff meetings. Community infections are 4 per thousand so infections of staff in school is about 20 to 30 X higher than community rate and kids about 5 times community rate.

Outside of school am only out for shopping and does not feel safe to visit support bubble right now!

Safe to say work does not feel covid secure at the moment.

CeeJay81 · 20/10/2020 21:28

Supermarket worker, so around loads of people every day.
1 primary child
1 secondary child (very small rural school).
No out of school stuff cause our leisure centre never reopened.
We rely on public transport but don't need it for work. So only used it a handful of times since this lockdown.

SaltyAndFresh · 20/10/2020 21:29

Very exposed. 300+ on my classroom per week, and the whole school as I and they move between classrooms. At the end of the day there are 500 swarming around our open workspace. There have been confirmed cases in two of my classes but it's assumed that the SOA e at the front of my room is enough to protect me.

My DCs are in bubbles of about 30 each and my DH is unable to WfH. We're about as exposed as you can be but parents on here feel entitled to question my mental health and professional commitment if I raise concerns on here.

Cookerhood · 20/10/2020 21:33

One DC works in a school with 3 year groups, 180 children. Two are currently off but they hadn't been with them in the rght timeframe to have to isolate (well, possibly not, it's what the school are saying, but I do wonder). DC2 works in a restaurant, not actually serving customers (on the bar, but customers order through the waiting staff), but contact with other staff. DH & I work in very Covid secure places but I feel as though it's getting closer. DC3 can't leave their uni area.

doireallyneedaname · 20/10/2020 21:34

Well, I felt incredibly exposed until reading this.

We’re in Tier 2. I’m on maternity so it’s me and baby alone all day, we just go for walks so no real exposure there.

Partner is a tattooist so his exposure is his 1 client per day and the other 5 artists + their customers, so around 10-15 people per day, however they all wear masks and practice social distancing.

40somethingJBJ · 20/10/2020 21:39

Not very exposed. I’m disabled and don’t currently work, ds is home educated. We see his dad, who lives with his elderly mother and works mainly alone outdoors, my elderly, very ill father, and one friend and her husband, who have been shielding for months. I’ve done all my shopping online and haven’t set foot in a supermarket/pub/restaurant since March. Apart from hospital appointments and visits when my dad was admitted, we’ve barely seen a soul, and yet, somehow, I’ve picked up a bug/virus and have felt like crap for over a week now, with a headache, dizziness and fatigue. No classic Covid symptoms though, so can’t get a test, but I’m terrified, as we’ve been so careful because of my dad’s vulnerability.

Vivana · 20/10/2020 21:45

Well I've been today around 7 self isolating people and 1 covid case. I'm a care Assistant so around it more than ever. But I wear full ppe and have a covid test each week.

LadyCatStark · 20/10/2020 21:46

Not very. DS is in a bubble of 175 at school. DH and I are WFH. We’re in tier 3 so can’t see anyone but we’re very rural so there isn’t really anywhere to go. DS’s hobby involves wearing a full face helmet and gloves and is pretty naturally socially distanced so not much risk there. I couldn’t care less if I catch it to be fair though 🤷‍♀️

addictedtotheflats · 20/10/2020 21:47

Very exposed. Been working with covid patients day in day out for 7 months in A&E, multiple staff members have had it, DS is in nursery for hospital workers but luckily no cases yet, most if not all of my friends are nurses who are exposed daily to the virus. None of my household has had it as far as we know

Timpani · 20/10/2020 21:51

Teacher married to a teacher with 2 children in separate year group bubbles of 75 kids. Our children are at a mixed breakfast club and after school club, and grandparents for childcare as a necessity.
Dh and I teach hundreds of children a week (secondary, 5 year groups) and come across countless more in the corridors.

Thousands. Literally thousands. None of it by choice. Dh is vulnerable too. But, you know, schools are "covid secure" Hmm

ThatDamnScientist · 20/10/2020 21:57

1 child Primary bubble of 60, busy public transport for me and her to get there.

DH shelf stacker in a large supermarket.

Dd1 reclused pretty much (youth/young adult group once a week) and maybe town once a week if I go in with her (she is autistic and can’t manage on her own).

I am dd2’s career and don’t work.

morethanmeetstheeye · 20/10/2020 22:04

Very. ECV and teach so I'm exposed to hundreds of children per week.

Then we have the two bubbles for my DC

Not good.

Piwlyfbicsly · 20/10/2020 22:06

Exposed to the max. Doesn’t bother me anymore. Can’t get worked up about it. I did have a very annoying month long virus in January/February, so maybe it was that. If it wasn’t, I can’t imagine me being that exposed and NOT to get it to be honest.

Timtims · 20/10/2020 22:14

Mid range I think. I WFH, 2 DCs in 150 strong bubbles each (secondary), DH works for NHS.

Online shopping mostly, and we've rarely been to shops recently. Only been out for a few meals since March, and met up with a few friends and family in gardens over summer.

rainorshine2 · 20/10/2020 22:26

NC'd as potentially outing
Very exposed. DH and I are both front line NHS. I'm a doctor on a medical ward taking COVID patients. He's a doctor in A&E. Thankfully neither of us have had it yet! But it feels like a matter of time..

lazylinguist · 20/10/2020 22:30

Massively. Dh and I are both teachers. I work in multiple classes in 3 different primary schools. Dh is Acting Head of a secondary school with 1000 kids. Our 2 dc go to the same school and are in bubbles of over 200. However, I'm pretty certain I've had the virus, and I guess there is a reasonable chance that the rest of the family caught it from me but asymptomatically.
