When are Tier 2 areas being reassessed?

MayFayre · 20/10/2020 08:12

I’ve seen a lot of speculation about whether or not certain areas will go into Tier 3 this week, but nothing about Tier 2. I have googled but not found anything.

We are in a Tier 1 area but must be at risk of going into Tier 2 on the basis of the numbers.

I don't think there is a set interval?

starfish4 · 20/10/2020 08:22

I think it's being constantly reviewed. I suspect we'll get a weekly announcement of any changes in due course.

What are your case numbers at the moment OP?

Whatever9999 · 20/10/2020 08:49

In Essex we've been told to expect to stay in tier 2 for 4 weeks, but remember we didn't actually meet the criteria for tier 2 anyway, we just have a council that decided to go begging for the honour of fucking with our lives. Maybe they thought the surrounding counties/unitary authorities (with higher numbers and in couple cases part of a hospital trust that straddles an area in Essex) would follow suit.

Good luck with that! In GM we have been under local restrictions for 3 months!! We haven't really received updates or been given time frames, just been left to crack on it with as best we can.

Clearasmuddypuddles · 20/10/2020 08:56

No idea. My area is looking likely to be upped to tier 3 because the city 30 miles away has high level of cases (although falling). My LA is steady so shouldn’t be moved up, but I bet we will as they lumped the entire county under the same restrictions.

Yetiyoga · 20/10/2020 09:24

It annoys me that they aren't keeping areas updated. Feel sorry for those who have had tight restrictions for a while. As someone who struggles with sudden changes, I would appreciate being kept up to date really!

redcarbluecar · 20/10/2020 09:26

I don’t know but reckon we might be looking at a long time in tier 2. Leicester has had extra restrictions since the start of July and there’s never been any rush to change that.

It's like the Hotel California.

Once you're in you never leave. Another Essex resident here, of course there is no success criteria to move down a tier, because we already have low figures.

It's why I'm so bloody pissed off about that decision by our dear leaders at ECC.

notevenat20 · 20/10/2020 09:52

Looks like a new tier 3 announcement will be made today.

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 20/10/2020 10:05

From www.gov.uk/government/news/prime-minister-announces-new-local-covid-alert-levels

"These measures will be kept under constant review, including a four-week sunset clause for interventions in “very high” areas."

Are you Cheshire by any chance? We are and we're in tier 2 at the moment but as Lancashire and Manchester either have moved up, or are likely to move up to 3, I'm worried we will too as the reason we went to tier 2 in the first place was due to the proximity to Manchester and Liverpool so they were expecting lots of people from there to cross into Cheshire to socialise. We are in very south Cheshire so it's frustrating!
BunsyGirl · 20/10/2020 11:06

Another angry Essex resident here. Yesterday our local MP posted on Facebook talking about exponential growth leading to the decision to go into tier 2. There were 13 new cases in our area yesterday. There were 12 cases on the Monday three weeks previously. That’s hardly exponential growth. My point OP is that they just make it up as they go along and we are all at the mercy of our local authorities as well as the Government.

userxx · 20/10/2020 11:28

It is!!!

ILookAtTheFloor · 20/10/2020 11:38

I've just looked at my area. I'm on the border of the district but spend more time there.

It's +3 cases from last week. 32 cases last week, up from 29 last week.

Exponential growth 🙄🙄 righto.

And of course, if they don't rise it's because of the restrictions. There's always an incentive to put restrictions in, never not to. We won't know if it made a difference. Seeing as tier 2 only came in over the weekend it shouldn't have made an impact yet anyway.

notevenat20 · 20/10/2020 12:08

You probably need to look at the areas near yours too on the assumption that the virus spreads to areas nearby.

Aragog · 20/10/2020 12:12

No timescales seem to have been attached, which is frustrating.

Even more, frustrating is hearing that our area might go into tier 3 soon. Whilst out rate per 100,000 is still high it's come down by almost 100 or 100,000 in the last week and appears to be on a downward trend. So why can't we just give it a week or two at tier 2 and then decide, rather than tier 3 when it's looking like it's reducing as it is?!

ILookAtTheFloor · 20/10/2020 12:33

The other area is +20 from previous week and 64 cases per 100,000.
guitarstringseadgbe · 20/10/2020 12:37

Another Essex resident here - rural Essex and 18 cases per 100,000.
I am so angry about it I can’t explain. Terrified of another proper lockdown as my husband is self employed. Only now getting over the first one.

Have no idea when we were be allowed out of tier 2 when we were put in it with such low numbers . As always, follow the money to know why they put us in tier 2

BunsyGirl · 20/10/2020 12:53

@notevenat20 I have looked at the other Essex areas adjoining mine and they are lower still. I then look over the border into East Herts which is in Tier 1 and has HIGHER CASES than we do in Tier 2. The people of Essex have been stiched up.

ILookAtTheFloor · 20/10/2020 13:21

The highest Essex rate is now in Thurrock. Which is tier 1- how ridiculous.

How they expect people to comply is beyond me. I heard on the radio one publican saying that the police visited and said that all customers should be asked for ID to check they're all from the same household! The publican said he wouldn't be doing that.

Dystopian.

notevenat20 · 20/10/2020 13:21

It looks like Essex council wanted to be more like New Zealand than England. That is shut things down early before there was a big problem.

I have no idea if that was a good idea or not.

Clutterbugsmum · 20/10/2020 14:09

I don't think they want to move from tier 1 to tier 2 because most of the country will move from 1 to 2 if you look at their own 'rating' system.

Clearasmuddypuddles · 20/10/2020 15:47

@Totallyaddictedtoshoes no, I’m a town in Nottinghamshire. Our town didn’t have a high number of cases to start with, but we got out tier 2 as a whole county. We still have low levels of cases and yet they are discussing putting the entire county into tier 3. It’s ridiculous. It’s a huge rural county, we can’t be stuck with the same restrictions as the city centre for months on end.

Nootkah · 21/10/2020 20:25

Pretty much daily I imagine in response to changes in infection rates and percentage positives. I imagine there woukd need to be a sustained fall to cone diwn, but a short sharp rise to go uo.
