So does that not mean measures might be working and it's best to wait?

Link doesn't work.
I hope the measures are working , although the press in general are being contradictory at times with the reporting of the figures etc.
I doubt a 'circuit breaker ' will happen.

sashagabadon · 19/10/2020 07:02

It would be crazy to implement a nationwide circuit breaker if cases are falling mostly everywhere. Suggests measures are working somewhat and spikes student related maybe. Would be idiotic to shut down rest of England. Burnham has done well for Manchester imo.
It seems to me Keir has once again misread the room like he did with brexit. Bad advisors maybe?
Labour position should be anti lockdown not pro it

In our area, South East all our local boroughs cases are decreasing, which is really good considering it’s only been a few days since the tier system was introduced, unless it’s not just down to the weekend numbers being down and not being recorded. The hospital admissions and deaths are scary though.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 19/10/2020 08:10

I’m not seeing cases falling in that link - I’m seeing a possible slowing of increase, but the rolling average is still trending upwards. What exactly are you looking at?

avenueq · 19/10/2020 08:14

When you look at the map of the UK click on the heading "on the rise". It gives case numbers last week versus this week. Blue means numbers are lower than last week

OP posts:
NotMeNoNo · 19/10/2020 08:20

The numbers of new cases each day may be falling but it's still adding to the total. In our area the new cases are moving to older age groups.

avenueq · 19/10/2020 08:21

Well yes, you can't really minus cases clearly

Thanks - that looks like good news. Hope it is sustainable!
Youandmeareluckytobeus · 19/10/2020 08:26

I had to LOL when I clicked on the map. You commented about cases falling everywhere and the first thing I saw was a box showing Dumfries and Galloway rates were 169 last week and 55 the previous week giving an increase of +207.3%. Grin

countrygirl99 · 19/10/2020 08:31

@NotMeNoNo of course they are adding to the total. People can't undie

middleager · 19/10/2020 08:35

I get the daily texts and both my city and nearest town are rising daily, 200 and 173 respectively.

Bailey0703 · 19/10/2020 08:39

This is a much clearer system for understanding where we are. It's the collated data from every council. Updated daily.

The situation is not 'falling' . There are a few areas where the rise is slowing or lower than the week before. (Falling) . But few and far between.

😆😂 of course they are adding to the total! But at a slower rate than last week. Do you really think that cases minus when they start to fall?
Xiaoxiong · 19/10/2020 08:40

That's really encouraging! My area is down 19% week on week from 181 to 147.

I'm just hoping this isn't some data problem like they had before where they lost half the test results.

Xiaoxiong · 19/10/2020 08:45

Hmm when I look on Bailey's link the numbers are reversed for my area. Last week 181 and the previous week 148, so rising by 19% rather than falling! So either the guardian or Bailey's link have reversed the numbers Confused

alreadytaken · 19/10/2020 08:46

Test data are unreliable. The crucial figures are hospital use and the ONS survey - and those are not showing declines unfortunately.

Unless you want to find when you need health care no bed is available keep away from people as much as you can and wear a mask when you cant. Then when you have a car accident, heart attack, drunken fall, pregnancy, cancer scare maybe you'll still be able to get a bed and have a doctor and nurse to treat you..

dolorsit · 19/10/2020 08:47

I agree- the numbers are reversed between the two sources.

PinkPiranha11 · 19/10/2020 08:52

The Guardian has been worse than the Daily Mail during this. Total doom mongers. Just clickbait headlines followed by stories based on the flimsiest of data.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 19/10/2020 09:00

The gov dashboard says cases are up 17.8% as a whole. For my area, the guardian says down but the government says up 31.6%.

Red faces at the Guardian, I think

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/10/2020 09:02

Nope, no idea what they’ve done but both the area I live in and the area I travel to every day have had rising cases week on week and yet they’re both shown as blue on the Guardian map.

Nope, they'll reverse it and have blue faces. Grin
Savemyusername01 · 19/10/2020 09:24

The daily numbers are rising in my area (South Wales.)

Popcornriver · 19/10/2020 09:25

Shows a reduction in my area which isn't true going on government figures. Wish it were though Sad
