South Yorks, West Yorks and Nottingham on the cards for T3 this week?

Speculation tonight from the Times that it could be as early as Tuesday:

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
Could another 7 million more people go into the Tier 3 Very High alert level this week? That is what ministers intend to do, with or without deals with local leaders, they now insist. Greater Manchester, South Yorks, West Yorks and Nottingham all about to be moved up from Tier 2.

That said, progress being made with all of them on achieving deals, with hospitals reporting ever higher covid admission rates. Deals in South and West Yorks look closest, with an announcement expected Tuesday.
Unlike in Manchester, local leaders not holding out for 80% of wages.

Instead, they have a proposal to devolve more money down to councils to support businesses and workers. "There are other ways to skin the cat," one northern figure says. Time also now becoming crucial. The figure adds: "Each day of delay has a cost in lives".

Manchester still proving the hardest nut to crack, but progress being made there too, thanks to Treasury millions. Andy Burnham and No10's Eddie Lister talking again in the morning, with silence from both tonight seen as a good sign. More on @TimesRadio tomorrow after 7am.

The East Midlands data looked on the promising side on the age spread slides during the briefing. Given that it's largely been driven by student numbers and that seems to have peaked now. At present there isn't the evidence that the virus is endemic through the older, regular population which is the main concern for hospital care, so there may be more patience for Nottingham(shire) which there should be as the problems are more recent anyway.

PandemicAtTheDisco · 20/10/2020 21:14

I was up near Barnsley Hospital today and I saw a lot of ambulances going past. I don't know if I'm just more aware of them and panicking a bit but it seemed more than usual. I'm glad the schools are off next week.

Flaxmeadow · 20/10/2020 22:13

My point clearly is that sheffield should not be going into harsher restrictions when our numbers are falling!

Sheffields numbers are rising at an alarming rate at the moment

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 20/10/2020 22:23

Not according to the latest news articles. They are down on the week before

Flaxmeadow · 20/10/2020 22:43

Yes sorry. I was thinking of Wakefield

Bumpsadaisie · 20/10/2020 22:46

Don't think W yYorks going into Tier 3 this week ....?

Not travelling from one tier to another is only guidance not law. Personal decision - weigh up the risks IMO.

Inkpaperstars · 21/10/2020 00:58

Thanks for the explanations about different levels of compliance within a town, it makes sense I guess.

I have heard mixed reports on whether any change to tier 3 would be likely to cover all of nottinghamshire or just nottingham itself.

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 21/10/2020 08:02

Tier 3 announcement to be made later this morning for South Yorkshire per Robert Jenrick on BBC Breakfast 15 minutes ago.

Paddingtonthebear · 21/10/2020 09:07

Where can I find the infection rate for my postcode area? I’ve googled but can only find number of cases

Aragog · 21/10/2020 09:09

In Sheffield so likely to go into tier 3 soon.

Currently off work ill with covid, so likely to go from tier 2 restrictions, to complete SI (though I've spent that recovering in bed anyway) to tier 3 restrictions.

Already had to cancel my holiday for half term as dh's SI covered the first couple of days of half term holiday we had booked. Not have the week off with nothing to do and nowhere to go. Hopefully I'll feel well enough to at least go for a walk by then.

It's frustrating as our numbers per 100,000 have been dropping daily and are almost 100 per 100000 lower than last week. It looks like the student migration peak has been passed, but too late for tier 3 enforcement.

DuncinToffee · 21/10/2020 09:10

It's now confirmed
Beth Rigby on twitter

Confirmed: @DanJarvisMP announces South Yorkshire will move into Tier 3, from 00:01 on Saturday 24 Oct. New restrictions will cover all four local authority areas – Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield

Aragog · 21/10/2020 09:14

Sheffields numbers are rising at an alarming rate at the moment

Have you looked at them?
They're not riding.
They are dropping - by nearly 100 per 100,000 this week alone.

The big rise tied in with the migration of students across the country, as it did in Leeds too. That peak seems to be passing and in both cities their numbers have dropped. The Sheffield University dashboard tells a similar story too, as do the numbers for Sheffield Hallam.

I was in NGH last week with Covid related complications. It was not overrun with Covid patients according to the medics I spoke with.

Bumpsadaisie · 21/10/2020 09:18

I think it's not just in cases alone - it's cases, hospitalisations, deaths and hospital capacity.

GrumpySausage · 21/10/2020 09:27

Numbers are falling in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire
So I hope they don't put us into tier 3

Fingers crossed.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 21/10/2020 09:29

That's it then, S Yorks in Tier 3 from Saturday.
Fucking wonderful

RoseAndRose · 21/10/2020 09:31

@YawnyOwl

Can you leave a tier 3 area to visit a tier 2? I'm literally on the border...
You can, but you have to follow tier 3 rules whatever level tier you are visiting
Flaxmeadow · 21/10/2020 09:33

Have you looked at them?

As I said it, I was thinking of Wakefield but
60 is not 100 anyway

Sheffield 406.1 (2375), 466.6 (2729)

And Sheffield is still higher than 3 boroughs of Greater Manchester (Trafford, Stockport and Tameside)

South Yorkshire is now in tier 3. Just a matter of time until West Yorkshire is I think

NiceViper · 21/10/2020 09:33

Is it all of S Yorks, as in the administrative area, or is there a different map?

Pretty sure that the visit we had planned is outside the area, but want to check

PandemicAtTheDisco · 21/10/2020 09:35

@Paddingtonthebear

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

The BBC coronavirus site has a postcode bit halfway down the page.

This is the government one.

RunningKatie · 21/10/2020 10:38

Dh has spoken to our holiday company and as we leave when S Yorks is still Tier 2 then they are happy for us to go. Hmm
I'm astounded, I was busy coming up with ideas to amuse the dc at home.

Aragog · 21/10/2020 11:17

Flaximeadow

The Sheffield one I was reading early this week had Sheffield at 377 per 100,000 compared to 466 the week before.
