Going into the house of someone who had covid

If somebody finished their isolation period after testing positive one one day and then person two went into that person's house the following day and stayed drinking all night (literally coming home the next morning), what do you think the chances are that person two could catch covid? We know it lives on surfaces.

Bump.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm feeling so stressed about this 😩

So person 1 tested positive and then isolated for 7 days after the test result?
And then person 2 stayed in their house for 24 hours on Day 8?

JuliaJohnston · 18/10/2020 20:17

Did you have contact after their infectious period had passed?

mineofuselessinformation · 18/10/2020 20:18

Person 2 is an idiot if they knew. (And person 1 knew better than to let them come over.)
If not, person 1 is incredibly selfish for not telling them.

Chickenqueen · 18/10/2020 20:19

Was it after 14 days of isolating?

Augustbreeze · 18/10/2020 20:19

Person one isolated until Day 10, then on Day 11 Person two went round for a bender?

Little chance of infection, you're not very infectious after about day seven.

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 20:20

Isolation period is 10 days not 7 for a start.
Had the contagious person been cleaning surfaces/hands and did the person with contact wash their hands and socially distance while in the house?

DownWhichOfLate · 18/10/2020 20:20

Drinking all night Shock. They are probably ok. It was after the infectious period. Probably.

Whatatoodoodle · 18/10/2020 20:21

Slim to none. It won’t live on surfaces for longer then it lives in the host and if they completed full 14 days isolation they wouldn’t have been infectious.

AKissAndASmile · 18/10/2020 20:22

I think self isolation is ten days so person 2 stayed on day 11

I’ve got Covid - we finished our isolation last week and no way would I have anyone in the house. I have booked a deep clean and have been bleaching surfaces, but I almost feel the need to flush the air out of the place! I’m sure that’s OTT but I can’t imagine it being a good idea to have someone round because there are too many unknowns at the moment.

AKissAndASmile · 18/10/2020 20:23

The contact was after the infectious period, but person 2 went into person 1's house. I'm concerned about contaminated surfaces.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 20:25

I think its less likely to pass with surface contact and more likely if you are talking face to face or coughing, etc in the contagious period.
If person 1 had been wiping surfaces and washing hands, etc then person 2 should be ok

YeOldeTrout · 18/10/2020 20:28

I'll go with zero.

AKissAndASmile · 18/10/2020 20:29

"Person 2 is an idiot if they knew. (And person 1 knew better than to let them come over.)

Person 2 knew person 1 had had covid.
Don't get me started on the fact that we're not even allowed in people's homes up here Angry

"Isolation period is 10 days not 7 for a start.

I doubt they socially distanced in the house. They'd been sharing cars etc. I don't know what person 1's cleaning is like.

I’ve got Covid - we finished our isolation last week and no way would I have anyone in the house.
That's what I would think too Angry

I dont know the answer to the surfaces question but I would assume as long as washing hands should be okay. I also know someone who finished their 10 days after covid on Thursday and had friends over last nights. Tiktoks on facebook and all hugging 🙈

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 18/10/2020 20:31

Depends how clean their house is and if both were handwashing etc

AKissAndASmile · 18/10/2020 20:33

I hope you're all right. You're making me feel a bit better.

Do we think someone drinking until 6am would be conscious of this?

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 18/10/2020 20:35

When we had Covid in our house I waited a good couple of weeks until after we were better before having anyone round. I didn't do a deep clean or anything as I figured it doesn't survive for that long on surfaces, but when we were actually ill, it felt like the air was thick with virus (!) and I felt like putting a red cross on the door, so I didn't really want anyone coming in for a while after that! Grin

In reality, if the infected person didn't have particularly bad symptoms, its probably OK although I would say it sailing a bit close to the wind.

Tangledyarn · 18/10/2020 20:43

I think If they were no longer symptomatic it would probably be ok, although not ideal. When I had covid but still had symptoms 3 weeks later I was told to keep isolating by the GP, the truth is we dont really know yet.

Jrobhatch29 · 18/10/2020 20:43

It's really hard to know without knowing anything about the people. Maybe the person did a thorough house clean before having a friend over.
GabsAlot · 18/10/2020 20:47

should be ok noone will know for sure

not good if youre not suposed to mix anyway

Realitea · 18/10/2020 20:53

It’s probably ok by then given you’re not contagious after 7-10 days. So the surfaces and soft furnishings etc would have dead virus on it. It’s cutting it fine but should be ok.

hopefulhalf · 18/10/2020 20:54

I sometimes think I am living in a parralel universe, are these people 18yo students ? If not WFT are they doing going round to each other's houses and drinking all night. I haven't been in anyone else's house (except MIL who is in our bubble) since March.

AKissAndASmile · 18/10/2020 20:55

That would be so good if he did. Hope so.

Yeah. We've been on local lockdown for weeks and weeks

When I had covid but still had symptoms 3 weeks later I was told to keep isolating by the GP, the truth is we dont really know yet.
Yeah, I've been googling like mad but the answer just isn't out there.
