tier 2 can I go to my activity?

Hi We've just found out that we're moving from tier one to tier two, high. I go to a weekly art group and I'm wondering if I can continue to go. We keep to two groups of six and we all follow social distancing rules keeping apart, wearing masks, washing hands, using sanitiser, washing tables and chairs down after use etc

This is what the govt website says for tier 2 high
You must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless you live with them or have formed a support bubblee_ with them. This includes private homes, and any other indoor venues such as pubs and restaurants

Then there this which might apply to my art group
Other activities, such as indoor exercise classes and other activity groups can only continue provided that households or support bubbles do not mix. Where it is likely that groups will mix, these activities must not go ahead.

What do people advise?

job of the art class teacher to figure this out, no? Sounds like the activity would be permitted if you stay 2m apart & masked up

Using a creative approach? I'm hoping this is ok - it's good for my mental health so could it be permitted for this reason under?

I know where we are North East these kind of activities for adults have gone online x

mummabubs · 15/10/2020 18:34

Unfortunately OP unless the other 5 people at the class are part of your family then that that last part reads to me that it won't be permitted to go ahead. I have to say I'm glad I live in Wales now, although local lockdown is a pain in the bum at least it's very clear what we can and can't do!

Racoonworld · 15/10/2020 18:39

Well it specifically says they can’t go ahead unless households or support bubbles don’t mix. Seeing as they aren’t in your household or support bubble (only allowed to form one support bubble with someone if one of you is a single adult household) then no, the group can’t go ahead unless you hold it outside.

PuppyMonkey · 15/10/2020 18:40

Yes, that reads to me like you can’t mix households at your class. So unless everyone in your group is in your household, you can’t continue with it?

Batshittery · 15/10/2020 18:42

The class could only go ahead if there were no more than 6 people and it was held outdoors

ChristmasCantComeSoonEnough · 15/10/2020 18:45

I don’t know though, if you are sat 2m apart are you actually mixing? It will be up to the organiser.
I am tier 2 and still able to do yoga in a room with about 10 people in total so I don’t see why you can’t paint.

PuzzledObserver · 15/10/2020 18:46

I read it as the class can go ahead so long as different households do not interact - and it’s up to the teacher to sort that out.

Sundaypolodog · 15/10/2020 18:53

Thanks everyone - it's hard to work out what the advice is. To add another aspect to it I'd be going from my tier 2 area to the activity in a tier one - medium area

In tier two areas activities are still going on though?
Dance lessons , art classes, tutor groups etc etc.
I’m surprised but a high proportion of extra curricular activities here have resumed.
People are finding all sorts of weird loopholes from their own imaginations.

ChaChaCha2012 · 15/10/2020 18:55

Is the group arranged as a support group, or by a charity or mental health group? If so, it is still permitted. Unfortunately if it's not, then it would be treated as a 'gathering' and so not permitted.

ChaChaCha2012 · 15/10/2020 18:56

Also if you're fortunate to still be classed as a youth, youth groups are permitted.

PuppyMonkey · 15/10/2020 18:58

OP, with your last update I think the class will be ok to go ahead but you’re not supposed to travel to join it.

RedMarauder · 15/10/2020 19:00

Is the class for education or mental health?

I'd drive in.

Is the class for education or mental health?
I would say it's both - I need it for my mental health Smile

Ok so the group can go ahead in Tier one but you can’t go as your from Tier 2. The tules apply to the person not the area so you have to comply with your Tier even when in a different area.

We're mixed ages - ranging from art students and pensioners

Driving still involves travelling.Grin

The organisation for amateur music groups is giving guidance that amateur groups can meet to rehearse

CurbsideProphet · 15/10/2020 19:16

@Sundaypolodog I'm in a Tier 2 area. My exercise class in a church hall is still allowed to be held. We wear masks when not on our masks and stay 2 metres apart at all times. By the sounds of it your teacher is allowed to still hold the sessions.

CurbsideProphet · 15/10/2020 19:18

Oh I just saw your update.
Travel advised against, but is not against the law. Check in with your teacher and see what they say. They will have written guidelines that should explain this sort of scenario.

RedMarauder · 15/10/2020 19:19

OP there is an exception for education and support groups of up to 15 participants as long as it doesn't take place in a private dwelling

Ginogineli · 15/10/2020 19:27

If it’s education then it’s fine

As for travel there are no legal rules about travelling even in tier 3- Its advice only
