CallmeFP · 15/10/2020 11:10

Is the length of time Tier 2 is to be put in place initially for 4 weeks? Can’t find any info.

OP posts:

@bellinisurge

In Manchester- we've had this more fucking ages. And now you give a shit.
Yep!! Since the beginning of August...no one anywhere has cared...family members on Skype looking at us blankly when we say we haven’t seen anyone for months while they have been oblivious in other parts of the country...

@PineappleUpsideDownCake

Oh Linda your poor dad. Wouldn't that count as a care need?
You are assuming the dad is elderly, from the comment about the whole family it sounds like he is the one surrounded by everyone. For all you know Linda is only early 20s and her dad less than 50 with half a dozen children still at home.
Vikingess · 15/10/2020 12:36

Much of the North have had tier 2 type restrictions in place since July and Leicester for longer than that.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 15/10/2020 12:36

Ah true Baroness. I'd assumed retired.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 12:39

People by nature care mostly about things that directly affect them.

ifonly4 · 15/10/2020 12:40

Matt Hancock said about 15 mins ago that regions in Tier 2 will be reviewed every two weeks.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 12:41

@Vikingess

Much of the North have had tier 2 type restrictions in place since July and Leicester for longer than that.
And that has clearly been effective.

So two weeks before we go into Tier 3 I suppose. Sadiq Khan seems a bit gung ho about lock down.
bellinisurge · 15/10/2020 12:45

Imagine being told you have to do this with 2 hours notice the night before a major holiday. This was us in Manchester the night before Eid a couple of months ago.

Lemonylemony · 15/10/2020 12:45

Much of the North have had tier 2 type restrictions in place since July and Leicester for longer than that.
And has it curbed spread of the virus at all?

WithYouWhenDrinkingWasNew · 15/10/2020 12:46

Why are people saying "oh the north has been in tier 2 for ages".

I know that, I'm not an idiot. It's shit.

Emma10702 · 15/10/2020 12:46

@LadyCatStark agreed! I’m in Manchester and we’ve been pretty much at that level since august. It’s not that bad we’ve just embraced outdoors spaces. Nothing much will change with tier 3 I just expect my kids won’t be able to do their sports but we’ve just got to get through it.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 12:51

@bellinsurge I remember seeing a thread way back in the day mentioning Eid, but as it didn't affect me, I don't think I was bovvered! Christians are probably getting antsy at the prospect of Christmas in 10 weeks and wondering what 'tier' we'll be in then. Christmas celebrations go on for about a month between work Christmas parties, family Christmas get togethers, nights out with friends, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day etc. etc. It's a long drawn out period of meeting up with people.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 12:53

Safe to say that Christmas will be a non-event this year. Fucking depressing when you think about it.

TheFormattingIsWrong · 15/10/2020 12:57

I'll still be having christmas.

ChasingRainbows19 · 15/10/2020 12:58

Us northerners have had this for months, no one gave a shit. We’ve only had a handful of weeks of what you guys have been living before further restrictions.

So we were basically told it was our fault for not abiding the rules... most of us are! It’s actually the governments handling of this that’s to blame. Now other places are seeing what we’ve had to navigate for ages.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 13:00

Maybe you Northerners just were not as vocal as us Southerners! Grin
I've enough to moan about in my own life without taking on causes that have no effect on me.

TheFormattingIsWrong · 15/10/2020 13:00

Would northerners have complained if southerners had been locked down first? I doubt it.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 13:03

Then again, the population of London is 9,304,000. That's a lot of people who have cause to moan.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 15/10/2020 13:03

Nowhere else has come out of “additional measures” yet and many have been under these - or worse - restrictions for months. Of course now it’s London the government might not be able to get away with that any longer.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 13:08

I can not imagine an AIBU saying 'I'm from Liverpool, but AIBU to think that it's awful that Londoners are being put in lockdown?'

'What's it got to do with you OP?' Grin

'Do you think you're better than us OP?'

'Mind your own business OP'

'Why is it your concern OP?'

Same as if a Londoner started a thread about the North. Unless you've plans to head there, it wouldn't affect you.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 13:09

There is power in numbers. £9.3 million people collectively painted with the same brush is a fair bit of generalisation.
raddledoldmisanthropist · 15/10/2020 13:09

And what are they going to measure against? Essex has very low numbers, lower than places which are not in tier 2.

R rate and number of cases requiring critical care compared to peak emergency capacity within 50 miles of the worst concentration in the region (i.e. roughly how long before the NHS has to start turning away everything but emergencies).

Is the length of time Tier 2 is to be put in place

Depends on how bad winter gets.

Currently death rate doubling every 11 days or so. That's a peak around 200-250 if the latest plan works brilliantly and R=1 today.

If you asked me to bet I'd guess March/April.

ChristmasCantComeSoonEnough · 15/10/2020 13:10

I suspect the tiers have been put in place with fairly gentle restrictions initially so that when the number don’t drop they can increase measures where they need to.
I also think they will probably relax rules to allow for Christmas as apparently they have made an allowance in the legislation for remembrance day. If that is important enough to be made an exception then surely Christmas is?
To answer your original question I think Boris said something about a monthly review in amoungst his waffle.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 13:11

I'm on the outer edge of London with a relatively low rate of COVID compared to the national average. But being treated the same as boroughs with high incidences.
