Where to get the flu jab?

Scramblinghealingdreaming · 14/10/2020 12:30

I am trying to get a relative booked in for a flu jab. They have a condition that doesnt qualify but they are at risk if they get flu. Any ideas where to go? Ive had a quick look at Boots and Superdrug but it doesnt seem like you can book with them anymore and our doctors receptionist is a bit of a gatekeeper so the next step would be to book an actual doctors appointment (putting all at risk) just to get the info!

Not having a go at receptionists, but all is not always cut and dry!

But if somebody has info on where to go to get the shot privately that would probably save me some grief!

Try local chemists rowlands Lloyd’s and ASDA and Tesco’s .

MotherPiglet · 14/10/2020 12:33

Tesco, sainsburys maybe, pharmacists

lloydspharmacy.com/pages/flu-vaccination

www.lovemoney.com/news/18079/cheapest-flu-jab-vaccine-uk-season-cost - This is suggesting Asda, Superdrug and Tesco.

I got mine - under 65 - free on NHS one by popping into Sainsburys and seeing signs saying their Lloyd were offering them and getting it there and then. It will depend on what available to you locally and what stock they have access to.

What I can't find is somewhere to do my Under 16 eligible to free NHS one due to asthma.

The GP is apparently still only doing over 65s and last year it was late December after asking most weeks and ending up taking him out of school for only appointment they could offer that I got him one last year.

Holothane · 14/10/2020 12:43

Lloyds chemist I’m having mine this afternoon.

Notonthestairs · 14/10/2020 12:45

Local chemists.

But good luck I'm supposed to have them at my GP's and they have run out, told to book through local chemist and they've run out too!

CMOTDibbler · 14/10/2020 12:47

Try independent pharmacys - our local one has been doing NHS ones for 2 weeks (alongside the GPs which are running with military precision), and start doing paid for ones from Monday. DH is having his on Tuesday, I had an NHS one

NannyR · 14/10/2020 12:48

I had one at Asda yesterday that I booked a couple of days earlier - it was a free NHS one though, I don't know if those are prioritised over paid for ones.

JellyBelly78 · 14/10/2020 12:59

I booked at Tesco, had to drive to one not so close aa nearest one was fully booked.

Polgara2 · 14/10/2020 14:33

I got one yesterday from small independent chemist. All the larger places like Asda, Tesco, Boots etc have suspended their bookings for them near me. Had to pay for it as they aren't doing the over 50s for free as yet but I didn't fancy waiting.

Cecilia2016 · 14/10/2020 14:41

I had mine done last week at Asda pharmacy and paid for it. Give them a call

AldiAisleofCrap · 14/10/2020 16:10

You have to either wait for a nhs nurse appointment or pay in a chemist even though your child is entitled to a free jab. I had to same issue my daughter was entitled to an nhs jab but I had to pay at the chemist or wait which I didn’t want to do.

doireallyneedaname · 14/10/2020 23:27

Apparently there’s a shortage at the moment and most are awaiting stock. Most I spoke to said first week in November! Try local small chemists or smaller ones if you can drive further out, they may have stock.

JamMakingWannaBe · 14/10/2020 23:36

I had mine today at Lloyds Pharmacy. Book online.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/10/2020 00:12

I had one at Boots a couple of weeks ago, but the pharmacist told me they had closed bookings. I usually get it free at work, but last year it was practically December before they did them.

Inkpaperstars · 15/10/2020 00:15

I went with Lloyds chemist, had to sign up for a waiting list but was very soon given the chance to book a slot. My first slot was cancelled due to lack of supplies but they fitted me in soon after that. If you can't get in, try giving the local branch a call as well as looking online.

If not, some private GPs near me are doing them for about £30. I was a bit hesitant about going because they also offer covid tests and I wasn't sure how segregated it would be.

Murinae · 15/10/2020 00:16

Had mine on Monday at local Lloyd’s pharmacy. Filled in a form saying I was entitled to a free flu jab and they had loads of appointments left.

Vivana · 15/10/2020 00:17

Dd had one in superdrug today. Was a walk in service and cost £12.99. Highly recommend they were great and dd was in and out in 10 minutes

Vivana · 15/10/2020 00:19

I had my one at Asda on Monday and you book a appointment
Mine was free as I'm a carer

november90 · 15/10/2020 03:35

Everywhere has been out of stock in my area for months unless you qualify for a free jab! I got an email from Lloyds yesterday though saying they have apps in Nov so I managed to book me and my mum one :)

I can't even find a paid one for my under 16 eligible child,

PhilCornwall1 · 15/10/2020 05:08

I had a text from my surgery saying to book in for mine ASAP. Considering the gatekeepers won't let me into the surgery, I'm struggling to see how it'll happen.

I'm trying to register with a new surgery at the moment, but that's a trial in itself. Our local pharmacies are also doing them, so I'll go there at some point. I'll have to pay, but it's the better option than the surgery at the moment.

peanutbutterandfluff · 15/10/2020 05:27

My one year old and I got one at a travel clinic.

Murinae · 15/10/2020 08:46

If your eligible for free nhs ones the pharmacies do them free as well (well they do here in Wales!)

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 15/10/2020 11:07

I can't even find a paid one for my under 16 eligible child,

I'd willing pay if I could get him done despite him being eligible for free NHS one and I have made that clear to chemists I’ve approached.

When I spoke to the people who did my injection, they said it was an insurance issue with under 16s and could only suggest waiting for GP to get to him. Having spoken to other chemists they either say it’s an issue with a different injection/ nasal spray being needed or insurance.

No chemists do under 16 in entre city does flu injections. Schools do up to Y6 otherwise it’s wait for a GP appointment.

I'm aware, thanks to MN, other ares of UK do have chemists that do under 16 flu injections so don't understand why it's such an issue here - and as we're under local lockdown and I can't even look an nearby areas to see if they differ.

AldiAisleofCrap · 15/10/2020 19:34

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath that’s really strange I live in the north west and LloydS boots rowlands and Superdrug all do under 16’s. Do you drive ? May be worth driving out of area you can book anywhere in chemists you don’t need to be local.
