Where to get the flu jab?

I am trying to get a relative booked in for a flu jab. They have a condition that doesnt qualify but they are at risk if they get flu. Any ideas where to go? Ive had a quick look at Boots and Superdrug but it doesnt seem like you can book with them anymore and our doctors receptionist is a bit of a gatekeeper so the next step would be to book an actual doctors appointment (putting all at risk) just to get the info!

Not having a go at receptionists, but all is not always cut and dry!

But if somebody has info on where to go to get the shot privately that would probably save me some grief!

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath

I can't even find a paid one for my under 16 eligible child,

I'd willing pay if I could get him done despite him being eligible for free NHS one and I have made that clear to chemists I’ve approached.

When I spoke to the people who did my injection, they said it was an insurance issue with under 16s and could only suggest waiting for GP to get to him. Having spoken to other chemists they either say it’s an issue with a different injection/ nasal spray being needed or insurance.

No chemists do under 16 in entre city does flu injections. Schools do up to Y6 otherwise it’s wait for a GP appointment.

I'm aware, thanks to MN, other ares of UK do have chemists that do under 16 flu injections so don't understand why it's such an issue here - and as we're under local lockdown and I can't even look an nearby areas to see if they differ.

Schools are doing year 7 as well this year. I had mine done in Asda and I asked the pharmacist if I could bring my 2 daughters aged 16 & 14 and he told me to bring them on Saturday. You can try them if you haven’t

I got mine at Tesco. Booked online on Tesco pharmacy website

I'd try local independent chemists. I had an appointment with the chemist in Sainsbury's which phoned to cancel because 'there were no vaccines available anywhere in the UK'.... I know there's definitely a shortage but the independent chemist I phoned immediately after had just taken a delivery. It cost £11.99

I've always paid to get us done and dds.
The school one has often been scheduled in mid December. It's a no brainer to me to simply get one and pay. Years ago I had to sell stuff t raise the money!

I got offered a free one at work but again, I was able to get a boots one two weeks before so I paid.

I went to travel clinics when they were quite young. Then asda, boots, super drug..

I had a walk in on a Sunday late September at Kamsons pharmacy, a smaller chain of independents £12.95

Go to your local chemist and ask, but be aware there will be a waiting list.
Often it says bookings closed if you try to do it online but if you call in to the local store they will fit you in (I did this with Boots), but be aware there may be a long waiting list.

You might also manage to book it with a private provider such as BUPA or private doctor.

This is why I said try independents. I had a 2 week wait for Lloyds at Sainsbury's, they phoned me on the day to say none in stock (there or 'anywhere in the country' they tried to tell me) but I knew my friends were having it done at various other chemists. First one I phoned had just had a delivery so after a 2 week wait I managed to get one immediately elsewhere.

@Scramblinghealingdreaming Sign into Patient Access? i got one at a day lewis pharmacy couple of days ago.

Belladonna12 · 17/10/2020 12:30

They are in and out of stock everywhere at the moment. The best thing is just to go online or phone all the chemists near you and see who has some. There's no point trying the GP if they're not eligible for an NHS one.

DH and I had ours at our village Boots, last week. They don't do under 16s so I had to book DS 13 in at the larger Boots in our local town.

I booked about 4 weeks ago with boots over the phone.

luckylavender · 17/10/2020 14:53

None anywhere in my area currently.

cptartapp · 17/10/2020 15:06

We ran a children's flu clinic this morning for 75 children under 18 (general practice) and 27 failed to show up!

BameChange123 · 18/10/2020 07:51

Wellspring chemists apparently have flu vaccine still. Check out Kamsons pharmacy ( branches in North West England and London/ South East England map of branches in their website)

I'd also second recommendations to try a local travel clinic. We have done this in previous years when my daughter fell between the school immunisation program and the over 16 rules at chemists. She's 13 now and surprisingly Boots did it for her this year with no questions asked.
