Who is right? Isolation period

Passthebubbly · 13/10/2020 19:51

Please help settle this for me. Staff member tests positive for virus, small team. Track and trace contact 5 members of team saying to isolate for 10 days. Due to nature of work those 5 staff have now had tests and all negative.
Dh thinks they can return to work as negative tests, I believe they have to do isolation period as dictated by track and trace incase they are incubating virus. Any idea?

You can return to work.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/10/2020 19:54

No they have to isolate.

HazeyJaneII · 13/10/2020 19:55

They have to isolate for full period surely (14 days from exposure)? Only testing if they have symptoms.

Jakobabear · 13/10/2020 19:55

Isolate for 14 days if they contact you regardless of any negative tests.

SkittyKat · 13/10/2020 19:56

They have to isolate. Having a negative test does not negate the need to self isolate.

pandafunfactory · 13/10/2020 19:57

Of course they have to isolate. And it's 14 days not 10. Track and trace don't know arse from elbow.

There was no point them having a test. That just tells you they don't have Covid now. It can't predict the future.

There is lots of discussion about using tests to shorten quarantine but we aren't there yet.

Reallybadidea · 13/10/2020 19:57

Your dh is wrong.

scaevola · 13/10/2020 19:58

The staff member who fell ill isolates for 10 days.

Those who have been in close contact are required to isolate for 14 days.

Testing during contact isolation is not required, unless you become symptomatic. Because it does not release you from self isolation - the whole incubation period needs to be covered.

Bumble84 · 13/10/2020 19:58

They must still carry out isolation, no question. Also a contact needs to isolate for 14 days not 10. It is the original positive case that isolates for 10 days.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 13/10/2020 19:59

Think if have symptoms and test negative then you don't isolate.

But if have had close contact with a positive case then regardless still need to do the 14 days.

The nhs guidance is pretty clear and easy to find. I can’t understand where people get the idea that they can go back after a negative test.

Passthebubbly · 13/10/2020 20:04

Yes that’s exactly what we have been told by track and trace and what I believe but my husband thinks otherwise. It’s our business and he along with 1 other staff member have tested positive the rest negative. 6 of us have been told to isolate for 14 days and mine has extended by 2 days as my husband tested positive 2 days later than original staff member.

Passthebubbly · 13/10/2020 20:05

I always doubt myself when he seems so sure but knew I was correct

OP posts:
Bumble84 · 13/10/2020 20:06

So your husband thinks he knows better than track and trace and just making up his own rules? He might think that’s how it should be but it ain’t!

Also contacts with no symptoms shouldn’t have been going for tests anyway, they’re not eligible for a test. That’s what caused shortages of tests.

savetti · 13/10/2020 20:07

The virus incubates. Just because you’ve had a negative test doesn’t mean you won’t get it over the next couple of days.
They isolate for 14 days

Passthebubbly · 13/10/2020 20:10

The staff were tested due to the nature of our work and were accepted for tests on that basis

OP posts:
Passthebubbly · 13/10/2020 20:13

and no he doesn’t think he knows better that is just what he thought if people tested negative. He currently has covid himself so we are wanting to do everything by the book but we had different understandings of what happens now but thank you to everyone on here who politely responded I appreciate it.

If you are contacted by phone you have to continue to isolate. But the app isnt covered by the same rules so an employer can insist you go in if the app is how you were contacted

Planty13 · 13/10/2020 20:16

There was no point in testing them. It can incubate for 14 days so isolation must continue until those 14 days are up regardless of testing

Passthebubbly · 13/10/2020 20:17

Thank you everyone I have the clarification I need now from the link above and all your kind advice. Issue has come from the 2 different track and trace people phoning the 2 different positive team members conflicting advice.

OP posts:
Passthebubbly · 13/10/2020 20:18

It was not the staff who were contacted that were tested it was the other few members of the team due to the nature of our work they were asked to also test by council

Some people HAVE to be tested due to their occupation.

Explain the concept of 'incubation' to DH.
& everyone else who thinks a negative test means they can merrily rejoin society!!

Now that's a surprise.

NOT

Alfiemoon1 · 13/10/2020 20:22

14 days isolating for the contacts even if they had a negative test 10 days for the person who tested positive

Willyoujustbequiet · 13/10/2020 20:34

You are right, dh is wrong

Isolation is 14 days
