As far as I can tell we'll be better off after Wednesday. Able to meet family outdoors.

@StealthPolarBear

What on earth are 'adult gaming centres'?
I wondered that. It's very niche.
StealthPolarBear · 12/10/2020 19:12

Guessing it's nothing that interests Boris and friends

Looks like pokie machines. Gambling.
triceratops12 · 12/10/2020 19:13

Witty seems nervous

MaxNormal · 12/10/2020 19:14

Why are we not getting to see the slides?

Aridane · 12/10/2020 19:14

Ladbrokes [grins]

Mamamia456 · 12/10/2020 19:15

Arcades for over 18s, I think.

Chickenandrice · 12/10/2020 19:15

I was just thinking witty seems nervous too. Normally he seems quite calm

EggysMom · 12/10/2020 19:16

I'm watching Chris Witty and his graphs, and rates started to rise from 30 August onwards. At the same time as schools went back (universities didn't go back for another 3-4 weeks). I think children are super-spreaders, sometimes with no symptoms whatsoever.

Juanmorebeer · 12/10/2020 19:17

I wondered if adult gaming centres was things like escape rooms, indoor golf, bowling etc???

Treesofwood · 12/10/2020 19:18

Eggysmom Schools went back end if first week of Sept. Add on a few days incubation period. So would see increase 10th Sept onwards.

triceratops12 · 12/10/2020 19:18

He seemed really rattled, normally a really good speaker. Wonder if the slides flustered him or something else.

FlibbertyGiblets · 12/10/2020 19:18

Adult gaming is bingo, too?

Bakeachocolatecaketoday · 12/10/2020 19:20

@StealthPolarBear

What on earth are 'adult gaming centres'?
Slot machines and the like.
Aridane · 12/10/2020 19:20

Arcades!

Dannn · 12/10/2020 19:21

EggysMom I agree, this would explain why the rate is not increasing as rapidly in primary school age children, if they are asymptotic would not be getting tested.

Dannn · 12/10/2020 19:23

asymptomatic obviously Hmm

Yes, Van Tam seemed similarly nervous this morning.

I think there is something we aren't being told. Possibly connected to the odd tension with Sunak. Probably something to the extent that it won't be a month, and we really are quite fucked - but time will tell.

Whitty's voice is shaking as he speaks of the balance. Something quite significant is happening in the background there.

StealthPolarBear · 12/10/2020 19:42

Youre all very observant
What do you think is going on?
Thanks for suggestions about adult gaming centres, the only thing I could think was escape rooms!

Do we think it could be to do with the brexit negotiations going on this week? So they all know that this winter of covid leading into no deal brexit means a double fucking?

PicsInRed · 12/10/2020 19:52

What do you think is going on?

I think they can see the economic data coming in (plus there are international challenges brewing whilst the West is busy tackling covid) and these factors will invariably significantly impact national health in the medium term - but in the short term they are forced to confront deaths from covid. They have chosen to do this by locking down - which itself will cause deaths and will long-term severely impact the economy.

I think they're making the wrong choice, FTR, but I do not envy them having to do the choosing.
