Positive flat mate not isolating

DowntonTrout · 12/10/2020 10:21

Child at uni has tested positive along with their other flatmates so they are all in isolation in the flat. One of the positive flatmates went out on a pub crawl yesterday. Lied about what they were doing and switched all locations off on their phone. However they were pictured at the pub on another students snapchat. Child and another student are furious, other flatmates not bothered so child rang to ask for advice. I know what I think but child is worried it will make life very difficult if this person finds out they have been reported. So- what would you advise if this was your DS/DD? TIA.

I would advise them to report them and have a moral backbone.

giletrouge · 12/10/2020 10:32

I think life is difficult anyway. Report.

XiCi · 12/10/2020 10:36

I think his behaviour is disgusting and should be reported no question. As hes been so blatant about it he will have no way of knowing it's your child if that what they are worried about

Keepdistance · 12/10/2020 10:36

Hopefully the kid will be kicked off their course.
Also even if they are young it may be not be sensible to go drinking while positive. Aside obviously from the spreading it

Yetiyoga · 12/10/2020 11:00

God that is awful. I feel sorry for your daughter having to deal with this because if she made it clear that she wasn't happy, it will be obvious that she reported.
He should be reported though!

ramblingsonthego · 12/10/2020 11:01

Report to the uni with evidence and leave it with them. They should have a student welfare number to call or email, drop them a line.

DowntonTrout · 12/10/2020 11:54

I’m so angry about this and have already said that they should report it. The evidence was on snapchat though so can’t be captured now.

What a twattish person. I wouldn't report it though seems a but pointless now that the damage is done. The penalties are too high.

DowntonTrout · 12/10/2020 12:54

The person hasn’t even come back to the flat yet.

Definitely report OP, you could report yourself to the university for a start. The proof is that they aren’t in the flat that they are supposed to be isolating in!

XiCi · 12/10/2020 13:17

I would take it out of your dc hands and report.
Is this in a city with current restrictions?

lljkk · 12/10/2020 13:22

If was my DD I would say it's her decision as she has to live with consequences. I need more imminent threat of danger to report anything than most people on MN, though. Reporting people teaches them to trust no one in their lives and be more devious next time.

My DD would tear some one up verbally if she was that outraged with them but not 'report'.

DowntonTrout · 12/10/2020 13:22

Security need a student from the flat to ring and give details. Yes it’s a place with extra restrictions so obviously they haven’t been scanning the code for track and trace in the bars they went to or following the one household rule. Track and trace have also been phoning the others in the flat regularly so not sure how this person has been avoiding those calls.

This exactly! Although they asked me for advice and I did say I think they should report. I have sent the number for them to ring anonymously but think they are going to sit the person down when they eventually come back.

What good is that going to do though. They obviously dont give a shit. In the meantime god knows how many people theyve infected.

DowntonTrout · 12/10/2020 13:59

I know. They are all virtual strangers- only been there two weeks. It’s a shock for them to have come into this and be living with someone so irresponsible. They’re stuck with them now for the rest of the year and as they’re probably going to have new restrictions come in today it’s going to leave a very bad atmosphere in the flat. This person has flouted the rules since day one bringing people back to the flat with them- one of whom they’ve since found out was Covid + which is probably how they’ve all ended up with it.

I'm not surprised you are angry DowntonTrout because my head is about to explode reading this. Is ignorant arseholes like this that will mean I wont get to see my family for god knows how long.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 12/10/2020 15:58

I'd tell her she should report them. Can she ask the Track & Trace people to call the flat & ask for the positive flatmate? It could then seem random. If she tells the T&T people she lives with / knows this idiot & needs the report to be anonymous, they should respect that?

TBH if I was aware that a person was going about in public in the full knowledge that they have a highly contagious & potentially deadly virus, I wouldn't be that upset at the prospect of losing their friendship. But obviously everyone is different, I have less shits to give now than 20 years ago!

Littlefesti · 12/10/2020 17:40

Definately report. Bolton was locked down after a major spike in cases. They were traced back and a major cause was the actions of just one positive person going on a pub crawl and being a super-spreader. Honestly the spike from this could be massive and the more days that go by the worse it will be. Perhaps reading up on the similar Bolton situation and the impact on peoples livelihoods by a consequential increased lockdown as well as health may be persuasive? Connections will hopefully be made anyway through contact tracing and this person found. your daughter will just be reducing the detrimental impact on everyone else.

JayDot500 · 12/10/2020 17:55

People like that are a disgrace to all the pub staff that have further uncertainty to look forward to.

Rosemary7391 · 12/10/2020 18:28

Even if they don't get removed from the university, they might have a case for getting them moved to a different flat or something? I don't think it'll hurt to flag to the uni, nor to give track and trace a head start. They'll figure it out anyway I expect...

MyPersona · 12/10/2020 20:24

They should be reported to the university and deserve to be sent down.

Pootles34 · 12/10/2020 20:26

Report them - there won't be an issue because they will be thrown out. Universities will not stand this sort of behaviour at the moment - they can't be seen to be.

outofthemoon · 12/10/2020 20:32

Report.

DimidDavilby · 12/10/2020 20:35

Report selfishly-- they should be sent down for this surely? And then your child won't have to live with this arse.
