He’s telling me that as it’s a new cough he shouldn’t be going to school tomorrow.

Do I keep him off?
Do I get him tested?

I have read all the paraphernalia but his only symptom is a sore throat and a bit of a cough. Definitely not continuous.

Any advice?
He’s giving me the teenager stare 🙄🙄🙄

I despair! Yes he needs a test and yes the whole household needs to isolate until the test is back.

AlexaShutUp · 11/10/2020 19:00

I was wondering, eternalopt! Grin

aibuQuestion · 11/10/2020 19:01

I didn't have a continuous cough but I did have a sore throat.

ktp100 · 11/10/2020 19:09

Keep him off and get him tested.

The school won't be happy if you send him in and he's coughing at school. They'll send him home and demand a test, then if it does come back negative they'll have to send his bubble home and you'll feel like a dick.

Not worth the grief.

As an aside, not everyone has a cough or a fever, or just a bit of one, so it really is worth getting him tested. I know it's a pain in the arse (we've had to do it for ours already, had a fever but I knew he was starting with a cold - school said he could have a cold AND covid so I had to test him. Oh the joys) but it is for the best.x.

ktp100 · 11/10/2020 19:10

I meant if it comes back positive, not negative.

Fat fingers!

eternalopt · 11/10/2020 19:11

@AlexaShutUp

I was wondering, eternalopt! Grin
but harsh eh?!!

He has a new cough, he needs a test and the whole household must isolate until the result is back.
We’ve been isolating since Thursday waiting result!

olderwhynotwiser · 11/10/2020 19:15

i think that under the present pandemic situation you need to keep him off and get him tested. It's the responsible thing to do Flowers

Chewbecca · 11/10/2020 19:15

He can’t go to school with a cough, so yes.

confusednortherner · 11/10/2020 19:21

I despair! It's a new cough so yes get him tested. School will quite rightly send him home as there's absolutely no way of telling without a test.

cathcath2 · 11/10/2020 19:22

New cough = get tested. It is that simple. You only have to cough three times in 24 hours for it to be considered a COVID symptom. If you send him into school, he will be sent home.

GameSetMatch · 11/10/2020 19:25

He has a new cough, of course you don’t send him in and you need to self isolate! Get a test ASAP! ..... and people wonder how covid is spreading!

Updownin · 11/10/2020 19:26

Of course you should get a test. Results in our area are coming through in less than 24hours and it's easy to book online - book it now.
School ask you to email them results - and if negative off he trots back to school.

I'm not sure why you are pontificating tbh.

Updownin · 11/10/2020 19:27

And you all isolate until the result comes through. I'm assuming you've not been through this before. We're becoming professionals in our house!

Realitea · 11/10/2020 19:33

My daughter developed a cough on Thursday and we booked a test straight away. Still isolating as a family waiting for results but I would never risk it! I've got it now and pretty sure it's going to be a positive result. Sore throat and cough were the first symptoms.

Bluetrews25 · 11/10/2020 19:34

On the covid symptom reporting app I've been reporting on daily for aaaaaaaages, see covid.joinzoe.com/data they recently said that sore throat is also a symptom in a high percentage of positive cases.
Test.

StellaGib · 11/10/2020 19:36

New cough = test and isolate! Come on OP!

PurpleDaisies · 11/10/2020 19:37

Have you been living with your head in a box for the last six months?

Get a test.
You all need to isolate until the result is back.

Thatwentbadly · 11/10/2020 19:40

The rules on this have been the same and clear on this for months. So much so that your 15 year old understands. He needs a tests.

Judging by the attitude and inability of some people on this thread more people will die than needed because some people can’t understand that a simple instruction applied to everyone including them.

JenniferSantoro · 11/10/2020 19:41

@ssd

Dh had a bit of a cough, he swore it wasn't symptoms, only went for a test as 'I made him'... He was positive.

Keep him off school and get him tested.

This. I just had a scratchy throat and bit of a cough. No temperature, my taste and smell were fine. Had a test and absolutely gob smacked to test positive. I’ve become more ill each day. It’s horrible. I feel really unwell. I think the govt’s symptom list is misleading.
Thatwentbadly · 11/10/2020 19:43

@WeLovePeaSoup why is having a snotty nose relevant? The CDC reports that 5% of people who have covid have a snotty nose. A snotty nose does not rule out covid.

PracticingPerson · 11/10/2020 19:44

@welshweasel

I despair! Yes he needs a test and yes the whole household needs to isolate until the test is back.
Agree, I'm hitting my head on the wall at the idea this doesn't need a test because 'I don't think it's coronavirus'

Get. A. Test.

cherrypiepie · 11/10/2020 19:44

Stay off and book a test now. I had mine at 10.30 Saturday and was back- negative -by 5.30 am Sunday.

newnameforthis123 · 11/10/2020 19:46

He needs a test, obviously.

And the whole household need to isolate until the results are back.

Movinghouse2015 · 11/10/2020 19:47

My DS just had a cough no other symptoms, Covid test came back positive this week.

I was surprised to be honest and want convinced he needed a test!
