Should I book a test and isolate?!

This evening around 7pm my face all of a sudden went very red and i felt like it was burning. It felt like I had the worst sunburn.
I started to panic and I took my temperature.
It was 37

I then took some paracetamol and checked my temperature again after around 30-40 minutes and it was 36.9

The burning has stopped now but I’m worried that this is only because I’ve taken paracetamol and it’s stopping a fever from actually breaking!

I have a hospital appointment in the morning. Should I cancel it and isolate?

Check temperature in the morning as paracetamol will have worn off by then. Doesn't sound like how a temperature has ever started for me either!

Redwinestillfine · 07/10/2020 21:41

See how you go overnight. If the high temperature returns don't go. You can't cancel now anyway.

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 21:43

37.8 is the temperature that would prompt a test not 37

MissClarke86 · 07/10/2020 21:45

37 is a perfectly normal temperature

HoneyBee03 · 07/10/2020 21:45

Just carry on as normal, that doesn't sound like a temperature.

iolaus · 07/10/2020 21:45

37 what? if 37.0 thats a normal temperature,

As others have said check it in the morning and go from there (but I don't think it sounds like covid)

PurpleDaisies · 07/10/2020 21:45

37o is not a fever. You don’t need to test or isolate.

@PurpleDaisies

I know it's not. But what I'm saying is the paracetamol i took immediately could be preventing the fever? So I don't know if one was developing. If that makes sense.

Let it wear off and check again then

Timeforanotherusername · 07/10/2020 21:50

My face was burning yesterday and was bright red for ages.

I never took my temp.

I did have my warm fluffy slippers on all day and had got way too hot working from home. Opening the window sorted it out.

Really? How long did it take to ease off?

I am quite anxious so I don't know if mine was just anxiety. But it came on really suddenly.

Could it have been an allergy to something?

thelionsleeps08 · 07/10/2020 21:58

I wouldn't rule it out, but I don't think it was.

My face just really suddenly started burning and it was really red.

I didn't feel unwell at all, just a feeling of being very hot.

Panadol would not have masked anything. It doesn't significantly reduce fevers. You never had one. Continue on with the appt as planned.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/10/2020 21:59

How old are you? Are you in the right timeframe for menopause?

ssd · 07/10/2020 22:00

Hot flushes?

I'm 30.

Is panadol paracetamol?

But if I've taken it as a fever was starting then surely it would prevent it from actually happening?

Have you had a flu jab recently? Some people have adverse reaction to it.

Sunshinegirl82 · 07/10/2020 22:06

When you felt hot you took your temperature and it wasn't high. If it's been more than 4 hours since you took the paracetamol take your temperature again and if it's normal I wouldn't give it another thought to be honest.

I mean this kindly but I think maybe your anxiety is causing you to overthink this.

OpheliasCrayon · 07/10/2020 22:09

If you have a high fever you usually feel cold / chill because your body is trying to cool itself down..

A hot face sounds like a reaction to something not a fever.

You seem quite anxious about the fact you might get ill -could anxiety be playing a part in physical smyptoms. Flushing and feeling warm are symptoms of anxiety

@redbushtea no I haven't.

My surgery aren't offering them to anyone under 65 at the minute.

@OpheliasCrayon

I am quite anxious about becoming ill ☹️

I had just had salmon for my tea. But I've had it plenty of times before so I can't see that it was that.

It wasn't just my cheeks that were red either. It was my whole face.

What you're describing doesn't really sound much like a fever, more like anxiety or a panic attack.
