Who will get the vaccine

I've been following on the news today about the revelation that not quite as many as us as expected will be getting the vaccine. The Evening Standard ran this interesting editorial on it :

Now don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge care workers and the vulnerable the vaccine. However, I'm mid-thirties with children and work in a public facing role.. How long do they really expect the average adult to live with these restrictions if Covid is still rampant with only a percentage of the population immunised?!

Australia is aiming to vaccinate 95% of the population. Why aren’t we? There are many people who are vulnerable who don’t yet know it (e.g. undiagnosed diabetics).

This. Diabetes is sometimes known as the silent killer. So many people don't realise they have it. The same for hypertension.

They have very little herd immunity because their interventions have been so succesful. Therefore they will need a higher % (though probably not as high as 95%) In any case, the vaccine will not be licensed for under 18s until further research has been undertaken, so that removes a further % of the population.

Really? It's quite easily diagnosed with easily recognised symptoms.

I've heard the phrase a lot. Just had a quick Google and here's this www.google.com/amp/s/www.diabetes.org.uk/about_us/news_landing_page/type-2-diabetes-is-still-a-silent-killer---most-people-diagnosed-did-not-recognise-early-signs%3famp

We don't have herd immunity. That theory has been rubbished a number of times now by the experts. I'm too tired to explain now but will do so tomorrow if no-one else does.

Ok, I guess they just ignore the symptoms then. Though it's always possible it's caught early with routine tests.
