Have I heard right? Seems like a big increase?

dashboard says 'Due to a technical issue, which has now been resolved, there has been a delay in publishing a number of COVID-19 cases to the dashboard in England. This means the total reported over the coming days will include some additional cases from the period between 24 September and 1 October, increasing the number of cases reported.'

headtotoe12 · 03/10/2020 21:19

They've said that there's been a technical issue in reporting since the 24th September therefore numbers will be higher over the next few days.

123456abcd · 03/10/2020 21:20

6.968 cases today according to BBC

123456abcd · 03/10/2020 21:22

Ops, that was yesterday. Sat 3rd Oct = 12,872 according to @UKCovid19Stats on Twitter.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 03/10/2020 21:25

only 49 deaths

Tootletum · 03/10/2020 21:26

What's the point of knowing.

purplewaterfall · 03/10/2020 21:33

Schools and universities are back, cases will skyrocket no matter how much the statistics are delayed.

Sunnydayhere · 03/10/2020 21:53

@AlecTrevelyan006

only 49 deaths
The 49 deaths comes from covid cases 2-3 weeks ago.

Today’s cases will sadly produce deaths in 2-3 weeks time - In mid to late October.

If it is 12,000 cases today then this will produce, assuming a 1% mortality rate, 120 deaths.

Its going up and so will the heartbreak.

..and at the weekend the cases are always lower Shock
I dont trust the government saying its a backlog. They lie about everything else!

Northernsoulgirl45 · 03/10/2020 22:09

I dont trust the death figures anyway. They are far too inaccurate. Not everyone with COVID dies within 28 days and you need a positive test to count and this has to be done in a certain time frame. To a lesser extent someone could be counted as a COVID death when they got run over for example.

emptyshelvesagain · 03/10/2020 22:12

The 24th September figure was over 6000 anyway. But was just the Scottish figure missing which accounts for less then 1000z. If it was a similar issue on the 1st October that suggests a true figure is still over 10k

Dartsplayer · 03/10/2020 22:16

only 49 deaths
Only? Well that's alright then so long as its not someone you know 🤔
amicissimma · 03/10/2020 22:27

About a further 1450 people died today. No one even mentions them, but I bet their friends and relatives are every bit as upset as those of the 49 we commented on.

The figures were delayed due to the previous undercounting so may be updated tomorrow.

emptyshelvesagain · 03/10/2020 22:37

@Honeybobbin

There is no figure for today on the worldometer. Is that because it's so high?

No, it will be because it is so late getting reported. Or any other reason. It often happens that a country figure is missing.

emptyshelvesagain · 03/10/2020 22:38

I just checked, it says 7k Confused

FatGirlShrinking · 03/10/2020 22:38

@AlecTrevelyan006 on a thread the other day when deaths reported were 17, you said that the number would become 'unacceptable' when it was just a few more than 17. Is 49 not a big enough number for you? What is your cutoff for too many?

@Honeybobbin

I've just seen that too. It must have been updated in the last few minutes. 7070? It's so difficult to trust what they say any more. Where did the other 5000 go?
I just absolutely dont trust them.
neveradullmoment99 · 03/10/2020 22:51

Feel they are lying about it.
I agree where did the other 500 cases go? If they were other cases, they should remain added. sounds like they are jiggling the figures.

neveradullmoment99 · 03/10/2020 22:52

There were 12,872 new cases, while a further 49 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

Reported by the BBC so nearly 13000
