Over 12,000 cases today?

Have I heard right? Seems like a big increase?

What's the positivity rate represented by the 12k, does anyone know? (ie what is the 12k as a percentage of the tests taken)

I think what I'm getting at is that if they're adding a backlog of eg 5000 positive results, one would want to know how many tests were done altogether, to be able to calculate the positive results as a percentage of the total. Has there been a change in the positivity rate - do the daily govt figures show this?

MJMG2015 · 03/10/2020 22:59

@AlecTrevelyan006. At what point will you stop making out it's all nothing?

gamerchick · 03/10/2020 23:01

@AlecTrevelyan006

only 49 deaths
Or only 49 families grieving. I'm assuming you're not one of them.
AlecTrevelyan006 · 03/10/2020 23:06

1600 died today in the U.K.

Wemayhavemetbefore · 03/10/2020 23:06

Ah, I've now had a look at the dashboard. It looks as though you can't calculate the positivity rate by calculating the 12k as a percentage of the 246,979k tests carried out daily, as the latter figure includes the antibody tests as well as tests for current infections.

Is there any ongoing data published showing the positivity rate each day?

And do these numbers include private tests done, I wonder - so, for instance, where universities are running their own testing programmes?

TheSeedsOfADream · 03/10/2020 23:18

I suppose some of the deaths aren't actually from today either, as there's usually a lag with the reporting. I think we could have expected something was afoot to have the PM speak to the plebs twice in one week. The govt probably had some inkling this was happening.

Worryingly the very knowledgeable people on the graphs and numbers thread say these figures are unlikely to be caused by schools and universities going back.

TheBeatGoesOn · 03/10/2020 23:19

I'm confused. Is it just the backlog causing the rise or is there a great rise even taking that into account?
My friend keeps saying she thinks the tests are throwing up false results but I don't know what to think.

Juststopswimming · 03/10/2020 23:21

Also to the pp who quoted 1% mortality- try halving that?

Pyewhacket · 03/10/2020 23:24

Doesn’t surprise me. The sheer stupidity of people is shocking. It’ll get a lot worse too. Nobody can say they weren’t warned.

Do you have a source for this figure? Obviously other people died yesterday, but I'm curious about how you know the precise number.

The dashboard now states the daily number of PCR swab tests so I think the 264,979 tests doesn't include antibody testing. Worldometers have gone back and assigned the extra positive tests to their day so we can work out the positivity.

From hearing from students in Yorkshire and the NE there seems to have been very widespread testing of students in halls and in private accommodation, including people with no symptoms. So maybe the targeted mobile units are accounting for the extra results?

No, sadly it doesn't surprise me either. You only have to look at the threads on here full of people giving false contact details in restaurants etc and refusing to wear masks. Not to mention the conspiracy theorists who STILL think this is not real.

The irony of course is it's those very people who, with their "I'm not wearing a face nappy/I'm going to have my party/I'm not telling them my phone number" are, by definition, going to be the ones who, if asymptomatic, will be spreading it more.

Thus directly responsible for the shocking situation whereby health services will again be overwhelmed and screening etc isn't getting done in a timely fashion.

But they're just too thick to see that.

cbt944 · 04/10/2020 09:24

Doesn't surprise me either. And if they're in any way affected, for sure they'll be the ones wailing, No-one informed me, we weren't properly informed! It's like thicko soup here. And there is an unending supply of it. I am more than a bit stunned. I kind of thought better of my fellow woman/man.

I don't really understand your point. The thread is about Covid figures. It's ok for people to discuss the deaths without any 'whateboutery'

manicinsomniac · 04/10/2020 09:29

Honeybobbin All 12000 deaths were logged on WHO. The figure 7000ish was written for today's new cases but if you look at our total cases figure it has jumped up 12000 from Friday, not 7000. They have redistributed the extra 5000 over the last week.

Augustbreeze · 04/10/2020 09:39

Note that the message says there will be more "delayed" figures added to the totals for the next few days.

Also that this means the actual graph looks much more like the so-called scary predictive graph that Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance used in their briefing two weeks ago.

CrunchyNutNC · 04/10/2020 09:46

alectrevelyan

Do you remember back in March we had low numbers, then because we didn't do enough/do it quickly enough to prevent transmission we had very big numbers?

Seriously? It was only 6 months ago.

It's only 10 deaths
It's only 20 deaths
It's only 40 deaths
It's only 90 deaths
...
...
...
Shit, it's 1,000 deaths.

The daily infection numbers of worldometer for the last week don’t seem to have changed though? Surely they should all go up if 5000 has to be spread across them?
Adirondack · 04/10/2020 13:21

Can we just have an agreement here that it’s not ok to use the word ‘only’ when talking about ANY death?
It’s a really shitty, despicable thing to minimise the loss of a life.

Ah I'm sure they do it on terrorist attack threads when a bunch of people died. Just for balance, If all deaths are insignificant in the grand scheme...

emptyshelvesagain · 04/10/2020 13:59

Ah I'm sure they do it on terrorist attack threads when a bunch of people died. Just for balance, If all deaths are insignificant in the grand scheme...

Just to clarify, I wasn't saying any death was insignificant. I'm not sure if that is what you are suggesting or what you took from my post that you quoted but I absolutely wasn't saying that. Apologies if I have read you incorrectly, I have gone over it several times and it isn't clear (sarcasm?)

emptyshelvesagain · 04/10/2020 14:01

To further clarify, when I say it isn't clear I mean it isn't clear to me - I wasn't criticising your post, more my comprehension

You did read it wrong, I should have copy/pasted the quote in your post. Probably would have made more sense Grin
Northernsoulgirl45 · 04/10/2020 23:02

Well they found more under reported cases. 23000 added to tally today. They can't get anything right.

Dustballs · 04/10/2020 23:06

Where have you found this information @Northernsoulgirl45?

I can't find any data for today.

I wish they'd get rid of the Trump non news and focus on what's important.
