Anyone been in close contact with a confirmed case of covid and not got it themselves?

Looked after a friend's baby earlier this week. The next night she started getting COVID symptoms and has been confirmed that she has it today. Some friends she saw at the weekend are also covid positive so very likely she (and small baby) had it when I looked after the baby for an hour.

Am I doomed, a bit worried about my own child now and my husband has been going into work etc as we are symptom free.

There have been a case where a hairdresser got coronavirus , but the day before she had symptoms and later tested positive, she did so many people’s hair. The only difference is that she and her customers both wore masks as an requirement.

None of her customers caught coronavirus

Yes myself and 5 colleagues all in close contact with positive colleague, 10 days post exposure none of us have developed symptoms. We do wear masks though and observe strict hygiene measures.

I am wondering if I have misunderstood. Did you say you looked after a baby earlier this week who tested positive - but you are planning on going into work after the weekend? I thought you had to isolate for 14 days if you come into contact with a positive case regardless if you have symptoms or not?

thisusernameismine · 05/10/2020 10:52

Pretty sure we have it now or a weird coincidence as I'm feeling under the weather but displaying no symptoms that would usually call for self isolating. Just sore throat, tired, headaches etc. But our tests are on the way and track and trace have told us to self isolate (so that's what we are doing) - I didn't realise fully that this was the rule until needing to look it up.

Also think she is a superspreader as her family all have it now, as do 4 friends she saw the weekend before I babysat.

Sad

My neice’s boyfriend has it and she didn’t catch it (tested negative).

Fizbosshoes · 05/10/2020 16:18

I know a family of 5, parents and 3 teen children. They all got it apart from one of the DDS.

Mogtheforgetfulmum · 05/10/2020 19:20

I've taught 6 students who have gone on to test positive (as in been in a room with them for at least an hour with no PPE) and haven't tested positive!

Ohfrigginghellers · 05/10/2020 19:41

Yes but it was very long.

QuentinInQuarantino · 05/10/2020 19:43

A girl in my sons (7yo) class had it and all of the class were tested twice, 10 days apart, not one of the others got it.

With coronaviruses you arent infectious if you have another virus at the same time. So that is probably more common in children

That's interesting, have you got a source ?
Nestme · 05/10/2020 23:23

Redred2429 · 05/10/2020 23:30

Sorry I should have said yes but it wasn't for very long. None of us caught it including my child who was in close contact for longer.

I had COVID in March, confirmed a few months later by antibody test. My husband’s antibody test was negative. He may have had it asymptomatically and lost his antibodies, I suppose.

Look after yourselves, and I really do hope you all have it mildly.
ForthPlace · 08/10/2020 08:53

All possibilities.
I know of school staff that have passed it between them with groups of staff testing positive within days of each other.
I know of school staff who have passed it to family members following their positive test.
I know of school staff who have tested positive and not passed it to family members.

MeadowHay · 08/10/2020 08:58

It's by no means certain you will get it and even if you do, you could well be asymptomatic. Lots of people within households don't even get it. For example my uncle and two cousins had it, my auntie may have been asymptomatic or just not got it at all (wasn't tested). I also have a friend who didn't have any of the symptoms requiring testing but did have some other symptoms once (headache, sore throat and feeling tired/under the weather) and later got a positive antibody test (NHS worker). Her partner had a negative antibody test.

PuppyMonkey · 08/10/2020 08:58

Oh dear, get well soon OP.

FWIW now, DP was randomly invited to take part in Imperial College London's antibody testing and he found out he has the antibodies (2 tests so far showing he has them). He was quite ill with flu like symptoms in March so guess that was Covid. Nobody else in the house was ill at that time and I later had antibody test too and do not have the antibodies, so guessing I never had it and thus didn't catch anything from him.Confused

Happydaysforever123 · 08/10/2020 11:56

I'm sorry that you've got it OP, I hope you and your family are OK and recover sickly.

Happydaysforever123 · 08/10/2020 11:56

Quickly not sickly

JJeans · 08/10/2020 12:48

Have a speedy recovery OP. Did you have one of the 3 main symptoms before testing?
