Booking things for 2021?

5GoldRing · 01/10/2020 21:20

What's everyone doing re booking things for next year..? Has anyone made concrete plans for Spring / Summer 2021, eg holiday or wedding?

I am keen to book a holiday - with a water tight cancellation policy of course. My DH big birthday is end of May so was hoping to coincide with that. Would you go ahead and book something? (Sunny European beach trip eg Greece, Balearics, etc etc).

If your insurance policy is watertight then go ahead and book. Prepare for the worst though and hope for the best.

Triangularbubble · 01/10/2020 21:25

I’ve booked nothing except a week at my relative’s UK holiday cottage next summer. Doesn’t cost anything, doesn’t require booking travel and can be easily rescheduled. Otherwise I’m not booking anything and I wouldn’t spend anything I wasn’t prepared to write off, at least until Spring.

AutumnleavesturntoGold · 01/10/2020 21:46

Yes, we moved everything to next year.
On certain even if the virus is still here, spring will ease it again. Things will have to open up we can get outside. And there will be the breakthrough.

toodlepipsqueaks · 01/10/2020 21:53

We moved our wedding on a year to next summer. I'm not that hopeful at the moment about it going ahead in the way we intended but we have to get on with things at some point. Unless you have a watertight cancellation/insurance policy I'd probably hold off on booking optional things for now. We haven't even rebooked our honeymoon from this year - will just wait until closer to the time to see what's possible.

Tempting to go to sleep and wake up when this is all done...

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/10/2020 22:56

Has anyone made concrete plans for Spring / Summer 2021, eg holiday or wedding? The only concrete plan we've made for Spring 2021 is to postpone the planned wedding till 2022.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 02/10/2020 00:03

No, not booking until things have settled. If I wanted to be married I’d just nip and do it as it’s the vows not the party that matter.

Stillgoings · 02/10/2020 04:22

We are staying at various places on a European road trip. We have vouchers for the ferries we couldn't use this summer and have one hotel rebooked from this summer. The rest I've booked on booking.com and airbnb with free cancellation. Haven't shelled much out yet. I feel more confident doing it this way but I am still hopeful that by July we will be in a better position.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 02/10/2020 04:25

No because we can't afford to lose money anymore.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/10/2020 05:34

I've had to move a lot of stuff from this year to next - 3 holidays, a concert, a festival. I've not booked anything new but I'm hoping everything goes ahead. A family member has postponed her wedding to next year as it's important to her to have her family and friends with her when she gets married.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 02/10/2020 06:20

We have about 6 gigs postponed from this year, mainly in big arenas, I must say I was a bit alarmed at the disinfectant machine for people things that might become a thing, not sure I fancy that. We haven’t booked holiday abroad just going in our touring caravan in UK

cliffdiver · 02/10/2020 06:29

We're not booking any abroad holidays for 2021.

Mindymomo · 02/10/2020 06:54

The problem will be that when we are safe to go anywhere next year, the prices will rocket, like they did this year. If I had school age children, I would be tempted to book something for school holidays, just to get a cheaper price.

Dietbet · 02/10/2020 07:00

I’ve booked a few things-abroad holiday, camping trips and weekends away in the full knowledge that I might have to cancel. Most things are fully refundable.

But I need things to look forward to and plan for. Plus I think things will get more expensive if restrictions do ease again.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 02/10/2020 07:03

Same as @meredintofpandiculation and have delayed spring wedding to 2022 to be sure we can have the wedding we want

LadyofTheManners · 02/10/2020 07:08

My wedding is rebooked for late June
Currently bricking it we will have to cancel again if I'm honest.
I was relaxed until I read that scientists say the vaccine won't be ready for everyone until Spring 2022, and it looks like the government won't change rules and stuff until that's available.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/10/2020 07:51

I’ve booked 2 UK holidays and I’m looking at booking a third. They are with an agency I’ve used many times and I would be happy to move them if necessary rather than be refunded (I like this year with bloody Sykes but that’s a whole other problem!)

JamSarnie · 02/10/2020 08:33

Not booking anything abroad because DH can't afford to quarantine after a non uk holiday.

And as for booking a UK holiday I am not prepared to spend money on things that aren't enjoyable. Spending time inside museums etc in a mask is not pleasant. Having to book restaurants and now remembering to mask everytime you move from your table just sucks the joy out of it. The joy of spontaneity has gone.

Given all of the above we have decided to not bother for 2021 and save money instead. Given that we typically spend around £5k+ on holidays each year at least our savings will get a boost.

MordredsOrrery · 02/10/2020 09:15

Not booking anything until after spring 2022. I'm reckoning at least 2 years until things stabilise and I don't want to deal with cancellations/postponements/shifting restrictions. Might book something last minute if things improve, though.

ReeseWitherfork · 02/10/2020 09:19

If I wanted to be married I’d just nip and do it as it’s the vows not the party that matter.
I agree, if I wanted to be married then I’d nip down the registry office. But you’re being deliberately obtuse. OP isn’t referring to the legal bond of two people, she’s referring to the wonderful party to celebrate the union of two people with their nearest and dearest (which for a lot of people is a head count larger than 13). Getting married is a happy occasion that many want to share with a lot of people.

ReeseWitherfork · 02/10/2020 09:19

Oh and to answer the actual question: I have a holiday booked for April which was a rebooking of this years. Hoping it goes ahead 🤞🏻

HRT135 · 02/10/2020 09:28

Holiday was moved from Aug this year to Aug next year.

Not booked anything else and won’t be doing just yet

usernotfound0000 · 02/10/2020 09:31

We have a UK holiday, which unless travel is restricted, it would be still on as it is at a remote location, but also has a good cancellation policy. Also have a trip to Disneyland Paris for September that was booked last year. I will be really disappointed if we can't go but i'm crossing everything that even if not everything is normal, we will still be able to go. We also had a theatre booking moved to August 2021 but I'm not hopeful about that.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 02/10/2020 09:33

No as had stress and uncertainty over things that were booked this year and thankfully received refunded money. Also paid out quite a lot on an annual family holiday insurance this year and ended up not going anywhere! As we just can't forecast what will be happening next year I'm not booking anything in advance but am hoping for a reprieve in spring / summer again.

Lindy2 · 02/10/2020 09:33

We have some bookings for next year but they are all holidays and events that have been moved from this year to the next. I'm not convinced they'll actually happen though.

We're not booking anything new other than our UK summer holiday which is at a friends cottage and only needed us to let our friend know what dates we'd like to go.

We definitely wouldn't be looking at going abroad or paying for new tickets for anything right now.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 02/10/2020 09:38

Chipping away at the mortgage with any money we have that normally would have gone on holidays.

@5GoldRing hope you get away next Spring, love the Greek islands!
